Got a few things done today.

Picked up the tires from the guys at Wheels World. Chose Yokohama AD08R; not quite and R Comp tire but I think they will be suitable for entry level racing. Got them fitted on the rims and fitted them to the car. Also tweeked the ride height and it now sits a bit lower and quite flat from front to back. My brother in law also installed the intercooler and did the necessary modification (AKA Hacking away) for the reo and bumper. Also finished stripping out most of the sound deadening on both driver and passenger sides. All that remain are the vertical tricky bits which I will have to find out how to do. If anyone has any idea on this please let me know.

Next on the list is sorting out a few things for the brakes. We bought high boiling temp brake fluid but now im wondering whether it will work on my car. Bought Motul RBF600 which is a DOT4 fluid but the skyline is DOT3. Does anyone know if this fluid is suitable for the R33? Will also be looking at sorting out the brake ducts within the next couple of weeks and getting braided brake lines.

Will take better pictures of the whole car tomorrow

Stay tuned,

Cheers

Amir

The rbf600 will be good, i use the same so do others.

Put the dry ice in a plastic bag and tape the bag to the vertical parts...

Cheers mate. I tried the bag idea but the dry ice didnt seem to work too well unless its on the sound deadening itsel but will give it a go.

Looks liek ur taking a bit out of the reo bar. mine i didnt have to take much out off.. only on 1 side where the edge of the cooler would just nic

Didnt take too much off mate. Kept taking little bits off and marking as we went and it fit in the end.

Small progress over the last couple of days. Stripped out more sound deadening and its pretty much all gone. A few patches left of the black stuff but I think I'll get a heat gun and melt and scrape it off next weekend. Today I mounted the fire extinguisher and my brother in law fitted the new HEL braided brake lines, bled the system and filled with motul RBF600. Brakes still a little spongy and will be bled again next week. Also removed the shi* slippery pedals the previous owner had on.

Hey man can you inbox me better pic of where yours is bolted too. mine is bolted similarly but doesnt sit as even as yours... yours looks good at the front. nice work car looks awesome.

Hey mate. Are you referring to the cooler? Which brand/kit did you go for. I know some of them like the cooling pro ones dont fit very well.

Did some more work on the car today. First I stopped at GoGear and picked up some brake ducts and some racing boots. First thing was to bleed the brakes. Then we mounted the brake ducts. Since I didnt have any brackets for the ducts, my brother in law just mounted them using zip ties - a lot of zip ties and some ingenuity.

Then I wanted to "plug" some holes in the car which were a result of the sound deadening removal (the bits that cover them froze and broke off). Went to bunnings and a mate came up with the idea of using basin plugs/covers with two metal plates. They worked a treat; just put them on, tighten them and cut off the excess thread with the grinder.

Fire extinguisher mounted using a piece of metal and a couple of nuts and bolts.

Thats all for now.

Cheers

With the sound deadner in the rear we used metho and a scrapper. It is hard work but worth it. The metho slowly disolves it but if you can get some Touelene that would be better.

This is coming along.

Are you looking at doing the Speed Event Series?

Cheers for the advice Shaun (and the brake duct hints - I pretty much followed what you did in your thread). I tried using a heat gun for the last bits but lets just say it got out of hand.

Yeah mate, looking to do speed series and those sorts of events. Im heading up to Barbagello on Thursday to do the no limits event and get the car going and if all goes wel I might be doing the RAC track on Sunday.

Cheers

Amir

I just put it onto a rag and wiped small areas at a time and then used a plastic paint scrapper from Bunnings as well. It did take a while. The ducts come up well and do work even though it feels like it is a bit simple. I only had heat problems when I started racing and was doing more than 8 laps.

I saw the entry for No Limits and there is a few Skylines going this week. I may even try one next month or the month after if I sort out my dry sump pump problem. I am planning on doing the December sprint at Barbs with the Speed Event Series.

The Speed Event Series was where it started for me. A bunch of good fun people and where you will make life long motor sport friends.

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
