hi

just have some technical questions concerning doing the auto to manual conversion and who has done it before?

RB25DET 5 speed from a coupe into a auto 4 door.

I wish to retain the standard (well sort of standard in my case) auto computer.

things that concern me are the speed sensor?

tailshaft for a 4-door - same as a 2 door? or will the auto 2 peice be similar to a manual 4 door?

and anything else i should know concerning wiring etc.

thanks

Matty

Dont do it man!

Why u no likey auto? its faster than manual just not as controllable, less top speed and slower launching.

spend the money buying a 25xx turbo etc coupled with perfect gear changes all the way to redline and no loss of boost between shifts.

Then again, if you wanna drift get the conversion, auto drift is unpredictable compared to manual

Tailshaft is different length I think...

You can get away with Auto ECU but it won't be optimum as it would be cutting power at shift points at certain rpm (still thinking it's auto). May be running a leaner fuel map than manual ECU, SAFC is recommended to fix this. If it's not included in the conversion package, try to get the Auto ECU replaced with manual one at a later stage.

Speed sensor shouldn't be a drama. The worst you get is due to auto/manual diff ratio differences (4.3 & 4.1) , you'd be off merely 4% in speed.

    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?

    • Yep four point harness. Mounted to a bolted in brace running behind the seats. Dont use it for daily driving tbh but good to have for when its needed plus it looks cool.
