R34 Vs R35 - Not School Holidays Yet, This Is Not What You Think.

Im enjoying this thread alot.

I still think r34 though and i have a new reason why....

35 is at the start of the development cycle...... like the 32....

and look at all the improvements the 33 made on the 32....

I thought I might weigh in on this on

So I thinking is this, the 35 is bullshit fast

nice time with the 32 on your sig...just curious- how does the 34 go down the qtr with 458 at all four?

This is true in sense, but given the R34 iteration of the RB26 still has the same oil control issues, it's not as simple as saying the last version is the best.

Have you spent a bit of time in a 35 to compare all aspects beyond straight line performance?

Very nice car btw.

Thanks, I'm quite happy with how its turned out and the few visual mods I've done

Not on a track just around roads, I really like the 35s I just find them uninspiring, like driving a real life play station

But it might be different when on a track and you can drive in anger

For the price difference as an over all package the 35s are still to far out there for fun per dollar, my 34 is up to $80k so far including buying the car and if I was to buy a 35 it would have to be 2013 on

That's just my opinion and every one has a different one which is something you would really have to form your self from experince with the two cars

Agreed, the issue is you getting a real sense of what the car will be like longer term in a short test drive.

I can see a lot of 34 owners in here who have dabbled with the 35 and not loved it. Was that more to do with the step up in price or purely to do with the car itself?

I didn't want this thread to turn into a place where 34 drivers could affirm their choice, looking for genuinely considered opinions from people who have owned both or at least spent enough time behind the wheel of both - and not to discredit anything said, all the info has been great so far but interestingly far more kudos for the 34 than I expected.

I think everyone that has actually owned both has said r35...you really can't compare them in terms of performance and they're priced differently accordingly.

Only reason to go for the R34 is probably sentimental value, childhood dreams, gangsta looks etc. Oh and the stick shift.

People buy cars for very different reasons, all of which are personal, so the final decision come down to what you want from it and why you want it

I chose the 34 over the 35 mainly for the reason Ali said, sentimental and childhood dream car, I wanted a 32 ever since I watched them dominate the Aussie Turing cars and in 2002 I brought my 93 model and it was at that time I fell I love with the 34s and wanted one from then, in 2010 I purchased my 2001 VS-II

I do really like the 35s and will get one one day, but these are toys for me so if I can not pay cash for it it can wait

No question stock for stock the 35 wins hands down, a truely fast car straight out of the box, I just love the sound of an angry RB, but again looks and sounds are a personal thing, that's just what I like and I'm not saying the VR38 doesn't sound good cause wow they are a nice sound I just like the RB better

Dollar for dollar the 35 will cost more then my 34 has to get it as fast as my 34 is and make the power my 34 does, that will change in the next few years as the 35s come down in price, the earlier 35s aren't without their own set of issues either that need addressing before been able to pump good power from them

In many ways this thread as h made me want a 34 more (in terms of the personal attachment factor, looks, cheaper maintenance etc) but a 35 more because in many ways it's a better street car and that's where this car will live (not saying it can't be/is not a better track car, only that the street car element is the important one for me).

I can answer this in a more logical way:

Having spent time in both cars....

The 35 is utterly brilliant, modern and technological master piece.

The 34 is a drivers car and requires input.

I own a 34 and would own a 35... but there is one thing stopping me.

The maintenance upkeep:

I can get a nismo twin plate clutch for my 34 for $2k and have it installed for $400... I would be scared to find out clutch replacement costs for a 35

My service for the 34 is $60 for oil and $15 for a filter, gearbox service is once every 60000kms and is $90... service costs for engine and gearbox is a 35 is...

265 road semi slicks are 250 for 265/35/18, cheapest tyres for a 35 i have heard of is $700 per corner

I havent mentioned mods or anything else, but you also have to look at how your budget and lifestyle meets you car requirements.

You either need:

A: Your own business (that does well)

B: To be senior in your career

C: Have a rich family to support you

I've thought about maintenance cost as well.

I can afford to maintain either but the 34 would require less thought - as I'm not "rich" have just been smart with my money.

It's not to say the 34 is cheap to maintain, but the 35 is expensive.

I think it also comes down to what your priorities are too, mine is investing atm over buying a 100k+ car

Yeah I get you.

I keep that in mind also, investing, but at the same time you can't take the wealth with you so at some point you need to enjoy yourself.

Talk of an R36 makes the 35 less special to me too. Kind of makes it the new 32. Great but better things coming.

Whereas the 34 was the last of its line.

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
