Hey guys,

I recently installed a new cluster and when i went for the first drive everything seems to work fine except for the speedo.

i cant seem to work out whats wrong with it, all the other gauges work fine, i just cant see the speed im travelling.

any help would be great

If you are sure you have installed correctly - cluster is broken more than likely.

Was the cluster new or used?

If the old cluster works, then everything car side should be fine.

Are Gtt instrument cluster compatible with non Gtt electrical systems The Gt  RB25de?

I am converting a Auto to a manual.

 My auto  has low ks and the manual cluster has almost double that. What would happen if I swapped the processor chip on the main board over. Looks like the ODO memory is kept in the main processor. Has this ever been done before.      

I purchased a cluster and the Speedo didn’t work. Then I got another cluster worked fine and so did the original.   This is getting confusing but to cut to the problem my auto has low ks and the manual cluster has almost doubled that. What would happen if I swapped the processor chip on the main board over? Looks like the ODO memory is kept in the main processor. I think the main processor is good because the instruments work except for the speedo what believe is happening the signal data coming from the gearbox is being lost in the board before it gets to the CPU than runs the whole show.

Or is it the signal coming from the gear box are not compatible with a NA instrument cluster

Not sure if this is much discussed around here, or how legal this is - but there's a lot of information around online anyway.

Odometer data on most of these cars is stored on an 8-pin EEPROM inside the dash cluster.  It's on the inside side of the board - so you'll need to remove the PCB fully to get to it.  It's typically something like an 93c56 EEPROM chip.

Inside the chip, the data itself is stored in a certain way with checksums, etc that some people have figured out how to re-write the odometer data successfully - using an EEPROM programmer (like a TL866II Plus).

Having said all that, it should be possible to simply desolder the chip from one dash cluster and swap it into another dash cluster. For ease of swapping them - you could even put an 8-pin DIP socket in its place to make it easy to swap in and out in-case you needed to reverse it for whatever reason or it didn't work.

I can't say what other configuration information may be stored on that chip which may affect operation, and I've never personally done it - but if you're desperate - this is something you might consider.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.   
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.

    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
