WELL HERE WE GO....

Bought GTR

After 3 months Motor went Bang, cracking pistons, shattering valves, it did a really good job.

Fully rebuilt engine, decided to leave standard turbos because yolo (just for the run in stage, kesh was low)

On the way home from Full rebuild running the engine in and not boosting it i spat exhaust wheel of one of my turbos out my exhaust.

Got new turbos

AFM died on the way home.

finished run in

TPS died on the dyno

Fixed TPS

Split a rad hose

Fixed hose

ran for a while

Lost half my oil

Fixed everything again all is running better than ever!!!

until.

Got shit fuel two weeks ago and was misfiring on 14psi...

Cracked the shits, Haltech, no AFM, and E85

what will go next?

Bought and installed brand new sard 540cc twin spray injectors, came in as a kit specifically for rb25, they are white

Engine ran rough, also sounded like Wrx throughout the entire rev range

Tried trouble shooting think one may be faulty, bought a spare injector and still the same

New owner put it into a 2jz aristo, punched the numbers in ecu, fired up, all silky smooth... They're a waste of time on skylines but fine on toyotas

Sard 550 reds were good in my old car

Hi Anthony

Made my eyes water :(

Seems I need to post a TLDR version here.

Will maybe write it out if I can remember it all

Had car for 7 years

is a daily (lol)

Done 27,000kms total in 7 years

This car is on

its 2nd chassis

its 5th engine (and third rebuild)

its 9th fuel pump

its 2nd diff (and set of axles!)

its 3rd set of suspension

its 4th? transmission

its 3rd ECU

its 3rd turbo

its 3rd (sort of) manifold

its 3rd fuel tank

its 4th set of tyres (in 27,000kms?)

its 3rd set of brakes (as in set of front calipers, discs)

its 3rd exhaust

as you can imagine, the non TLDR version of this is very long

..and still going

Holy Shit !

Hope you like working 3 jobs. :3some: to pay for this lot?

I take it you also track the car or you would be in jail by now going through that lot on the road :woot: or do you run sly grog :pirate:

Is it still your DD, got some pics?

Wow Greg that is true dedication! Out curiosity, have you worked out total cost of ownership ($ per km)? I've got mine for this and the previous car and they ain't pretty...

All the kms done were cruising kms below the speed limit, off boost. Well not all, but relative to most people on SAU I really do drive like a grandpa.

I'd like to take it to the track one day, but the car has never been working.

It is currently sitting at an engine builder shop, with the engine entirely dis-assembled.

As for $ per KM, it's certainly somewhere around $2

$2 a KM , haha that would stop you going to the shop for an ice cream :woot:

If what you say is true (bullshit I think) I would change mechanics , maybe you are using a carpet layer to do this work for you or :pirate: ,LOL

  • 3 weeks later...

But you have more money than sense:)

How come you have not got it right by now, 5 motors???

If mine is not as I want it , I will be sooooo pissed off :(

But I am sure it will be and then some :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I'd like to put in my $0.02c and suggest.. the f**king silver dash. I mean seriously. Half the interior photos and sale threads et al have it, and it's infuriating. My car is also tarred with this.

Why yes, I did let my kindergartener suggest and paint my interior!

...

I'm currently sitting at $10 per KM hahahahahaha]

When this build is done I will be around $27 PK , only because I have not done a shit load of Klms

Whoa!

Ok so the Skyline's sitting at around $1.25/km and the Monaro was $1.90/km, all inclusive.

It doesn't sound that bad until you consider that at $2/km:

  • Melbourne to airport return costs $100 (50km)
  • Melbourne to Geelong return costs $300 (150km)
  • Melbourne to Sydney one way is $1,760 (880km)

Oh well, cars. But ouch.

    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
