Hey guys, Just sharing some info and pics on my new car. Since I got into japanese sports car ive always had a soft spot for the 32gtr. Ive owned a couple of s15's , 180, xr6t, vl turbo, couple of ke70's so i figured it was time to give the gtr a go. I searched for a couple of months locally but didnt really come across anything I was overly happy with so i signed up with IRON CHEF imports and the search began. I realised it was probably going to take a little longer then i had thought to find a decent 32 so i began looking at 34's as they are considerably cheaper in japan but after getting one inspected and missing out on it i soon realised i wasnt going to get a high quality 34 with what i was willing to spend. Then i came across the car i now own, was a 4b with 83,000km , no rust, one owner, came with some history and manuals and was in great condition with no rust. Had it inspected, made a bid and won :)

1994 BNR32

Tomei TRB500 crate engine

Rays TE37 wheels

OHLIN suspension

Apexi cat back

Unknown front pipe

HKS oil cooler

HKS intake

ARC radiator

Greddy exhaust temp guage

HKS boost guage

HKS boost controller

The car is a daily but will be tracked on the odd occasion so keeping it fairly mild. General plans str to give it abit of a tidy, the front bar could use a respray and the engine bay has some oxidation going on which I want to clean up, also probably re route the oil cooler to neaten up. Once that is done ill start with some mods.

It did come with a Tomei crate engine which i have some rough info on although im not 100% sure. Here are the specs i got from the internet.Would appreciate it if anyone had any more info on these?

Thanks mate, its fairly neat, the interior is excellent aswell.

Plans are to tidy the engine bay up, respray the front bar due to a couple of marks and i want the n1 vents put in then once thats all done ill be buying some parts. Ive got a Bride ViosIII to go in from a previous car. Coilovers, HKS Kansai front strut brace, fujimura auto wing extension, ab flug front diffuser, are a few things i want first and then ill go for some performance upgrades down the track.

  • 2 weeks later...

scrap that, hks changed their availability on the hipermax's so went with tein monosports 10/8 .. a little firm but i dont mind that.

I picked the car up from compliance mid week, the clutch needs replacing asap so ordered a Nismo super coppermix twin plate. Initial impressions of the car are great, love how planted the gtr feels compared to my s15. It feels quite quick too so pretty interested to get in on a dyno and see what the tomei motor is putting out.

Heres a pic of my previous and s15 and the black one is my first one i had years ago.

can confirm the car does have HKS turbo's .. pretty sure they come with the tomei motor so im assuming theyre HKS2530 .. having trouble figuring out how to set the boost on the HKS evc3 but running 0.6 bar atm and it feels fairly quick.. a little laggy tho.

front guards arent rolled nor have liners been removed but its not very low. It was scrubbing in the front at that height so ive got other wheels on atm untill my coilovers come. Ill probably get the guards rolled.

Yeah as am i :) The spec sheet i got states a Tomei ECU but i dont know too much about it. Haha ill be keeping the standard seats in for daily duties.. the bride is way too annoying to get in and out of!

Thanks mate, as does yours.

I run 18.9.5+12 (Te37's) as well. I've got guard liners and no scrubbing.

If you're talking about handling, going via those pictures, your car is too low at the front anyway.

Car looks to be in great condition, congrats.

yeah the fronts way too low although i actually dont mind the front rake look but not to this extreme.. i dont plan to run this car very low but have some tein's on the way so ill even the height out.

Cheers guys. Yeah i regretted selling that s15.

yeah i know im going to have real trouble parting with mine if i can bring myself to do it and change to a bnr34. If only i was mega rich and had a property with a ten car garage. le sigh

i could be wrong but im pretty sure when you have the ride heights correct eg sydneykid spec you iirc end up with a bigger gap between front tyre and guard than you do at the back. We all know looks are greater than handling though especially on a street car haha

    • After using a protractor for an actually accurate assessment of what is required,  and by NOT using my uncalibrated eyeball I worked out I need a 25° silicone bend from the TB ro the MAF, but, my choice was either a 30° or a 23° (23° is a weird spec), so I grabbed the 23° one from Raceworks I also grabbed 1mtr of 3" straight from Just Jap, I needed 350mm, but they only had 300mm, or 1mtr lengths....meh Also ordered a 1/2" hose bulkhead fitting from fleabay, this has a smoothish mushroom looking head (they are designed for below the water line of boats) that will fit inside the bend, the hose bit and threaded bit looks to long, but nothing that a hacksaw cannot fix if required, the hose will then just get jamed on the threaded bit up to the retaining nut Fingers crossed and the unsightly amount of hose clamps will be reduced down to 4 once all the parts arrive
    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
