Man... "chequebook racer" must be up there with one of the most retarded things to ever call someone :uhh: :uhh:

yeah its a dumb saying, no matter how hard you push them they just won't race

chequebookracing.jpg

BTW, drag racers have rules for different classes too, don't tell me people don't try to cheat within those classes. The sad fact is budget and/or cheating wins in any form of motorsport.

Thats not to take anything away from Drag, to me its as much a motorsport as circuit racing, hillclimbs etc etc.

The only form I can think of that isn't motorsport is drift, its got about as much credability as surfing

Also where are your paragraphs, my old eyes have trouble with that...

Ahahahahahaa no cheating in drag racing. Dude, I love it.

For street drags there pretty much are no rules so it makes it a bit hard to cheat.

As for the rest of your paranoia... Relax guy, seriously. I think you are fighting windmills.

damn someone already mentioned the Mines R34 GTR.....

once again AWESOME car.....i watched that edition of BMI so many times.

now for my 2 cents.

Like someone already mentioned before...rice is becoming too generalised...

but you foget that what you may consider to be an awesome car others may think its rice....(ie V8 boys bashing imports...no matter how good they are)

To me dyno figures should be used as a tuning aid and to give you an indication of what the latest mods have done....provided you go to the same dyno of course

having said that I reckon dyno days are a great social event to talk to other enthusiasts....and if you happen to run a good figure on the day than its a bonus.

Finally, personally I prefer drift/circuit over drags....cause I believe a car should be well balanced...

For example

drift and or circuit car can post a good well at least respectable quarter mile time

where as i doubt a drag car can post a good laptime....

but I know drag racing isnt as simple as "point and shoot" etc....so no need to point that out to me !!! :)

Puts on angry black woman voice: "Oh no you didnt"

hahhaah :jk:

well everyones entitled to their own opinion...

but i reckon a considerable amount of skill is involved in it.....considering the majority of D1 pros are pro racers in JGTC.

There is a considerable amount of skill in synchronised swimming, but it is still stupid...

Anyway, apart from Taniguchi who races in JGTC? (EDIT: Found him)

Let me pass you the GOLD medal, well choreographed :)

...S13drifter, i get what your saying, but where do you draw the line, do you have to have cast your own block in order to be able to post, or maybe machine up your own axles. Some of the most knowledgeable ppl in my industry are shocking when it comes to picking up tools, i suspect the same to be true in the automotive industry?

An opinion is still valid if for instance they paid someone to install cam gears and tune their car.... they may not have done it themselves or understand exactly what was done, but the advice based on results from a well spent $800 is fair, who cares if they machined up the cam gears and tuned it themselves, of threw money at a workshop? Not disagreeing or wanting to argue, just think we should be encouraging ppl to exchange thoughts, ideas and thinking

in my humble opinion

I think that RICE has been blown completly out of proportion

Be it rice or not ppl should do what eva they want to THEIR cars.

ppl who plaster their cars with stickers are all posers neway right???

Deep dpwn inside they know that, just like u ppl know that every sticker means something cause it comes with some part of some kind.

Thats why they do it so why does it bother any 1?? they do it for attention so why give them attention? do u think they would do it if noone could see their cars??

what do ppl get out of bagging it? self satisfaction??

i think a 1980 magna with a huge drift wing looks stupid but the owner obviously loves it which is why he paid $300 for it in the first place.

are ppl threatened by a poser getting more respect than them, cause they have more stickers and a bigger wing???

I keep seeing a pink hyundai exel, with 18' chrome mags, 3'exhaust, massive rearwing and a bonnat scoop big enough to make any sti run and hide under the carpet. it looks kinda funny in my opinion, but seriously the owner loves it, who are you to judge them??!?!

In several months i will b importing a 300zx and i am planning to spend thousands of $under the hood, I will not have a single sticker on my ride cause i think it looks stupid. MY opinion.

im not saying my opinion is right just that its my opinion.

let them brag about there 400kw hyundai if it makes them feel better about themselves. go for it.

sorry about the rant ezpecially if it offended any body. just me

In fact its about the only form of motorsports where there is no cheating... THats right you cant cheat a clock!!!! Everyform of circut racing i have seen or been involved in there are blokes cheating..

:mad::) :) :rofl: :rofl:

You think that rally guys are constantly trying to slip one past the scruitineerers (true), but no-one does the same thing in drag racing? Are you being serious, or are you just playing dumb?

"You can't cheat a clock".... No, but you can cheat with modifying things on your car that are illegal in your class of drag racing. To think no-one tries to slip by illegal modifications is utterly ridiculous.

80% of all people here dont have a clue they only think they do!!!! To many times have i come across people that talk like they work on GTR's day in day out then meet them in real life and the are in IT or something it gets me so cut cause they go around giving advise when they no SH!T ALL!!!!!

............... Because you know, you can only do one thing in your life. You couldn't POSSIBLY have interests in more than one field :)

I know some IT people that know a LOT more about cars than many mechanics do. Remember that mechanics aren't exactly brain surgeons hs.gif They don't know the physics and engineering behind a lot of what goes on in and around your motor. And just because you didn't install those camshafts in your very own workshop, it doesn't mean that you don't know anything about camshaft duration, lobe seperation, lift vs. powerband selection and flow dynamics.

To discount someone's advice/opinion because they aren't a mechanic is extremely narrow minded.

i think the mines GTR was bought up to give an example of what this whole thread is about.......A car that doesnt have 1000hp...but one that is modified and driven the way that that particular car was designed to be driven.I personally dont give a rats rear end what my car puts out,as long as it performs how i want it to.The mines GTR is the type of vehicle that i am aiming at myself. In regards to the questions that people ask me when they see my car...."What stage is that intercooler" :(

ah new i would get some interesting responses!!!! Have edited with paragraphs for those people with poor vision myself included its alot easier to read when you know whats being said, that is also true for the points some of you carried out of the post!!!!

1) of course there is cheating, haha thought a few of you might like that but at the end of the day if you are seriously campaigning a drag car and you are cheating then it is still a race against the clock and human error judgement are still the main forces behind results!! My point was no one should discriminate against another motorsport untill actually have done it themselves, and just cause you have raced your skyline at a street meet doesnt mean (" oh i tried drag racing piece of p!ss"), you have given the sport all it has to offer.... But in saying that please dont think im against circut or any other form im an enthusiast of them all!!!

2) Everypersons point is valid and should be heard, but in saying this everybody's opinion should be considered with a grain of salt.... Merli do you work in IT as you seem to take particular offence haha, yes not all mechanics are that bright thats why they do service work and change gaskets, not perform r and d into engines and tune cars and so forth!!!But i value any opinion that can backed up with concrete examples and info, as im sure all of you do!!!!

3) Anyone that has had something done to their car and knows how its done good on them, i never have proffessed to making my own camshafts or casting my own block and am not in anyway trying to one-up myself on anyone else here, im not a mechanic and i dont work for a workshop...Anythin i might know about cars is learnt through reverse engineering or asking people who have done it then doing it myself, everything is learnt from someone else even the very best mechanic was probably an apprentice at one stage... mY only point is that im sick of seeing people regurgatate others info claiming it as their own and that they know the info from first hand experience!!!

Whether that be doin it themselves or having someone who has done it to their own car and explain it to them!!!!

Hope this clears up what i meant sorry if any toes where trod on!!!

1) of course there is cheating

Then why would you say:

"In fact its about the only form of motorsports where there is no cheating... THats right you cant cheat a clock!!!! Everyform of circut racing i have seen or been involved in there are blokes cheating"

That EXPLICITLY implies that you think that there is cheating in every form of motorsport EXCEPT drag racing...... Hmmmm, perhaps you just have trouble articulating your posts dunno.gif

2) Everypersons point is valid and should be heard, but in saying this everybody's opinion should be considered with a grain of salt.... Merli do you work in IT as you seem to take particular offence haha

What field I'm in is completely irrelevant.

What I was astounded at, was the stupidity in your blanket claims, in that just because a person has chosen a career in one field, that automatically means that he/she cannot have any knowledge in another... and in fact their advice and comments should be discarded because "they no SH!T ALL!" (oh the irony! )

Again, perhaps you are let down with your ineloquence and inarticulation. If so, then you have my apologies :(

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
