firstly let me just say that he changed the plugs and gave it a routine service fitted the supra FMIC as low as possible to get more airflow, recoed the drive shafts (fitted too) then tuned the car, then did a horsepower test. This all for the sum of $420. I was pissed about waiting but for $420 he has looked after me.

And the dyno result is............................ you'll have to wait because he can't print it until he gets some paper for it which is Friday.

Sorry

get this, I went to flow tech EFI to run the car on the dyno again and all of a sudden the motor starts running shit. Then it starts knocking intermittently. So he has a look and says, 'you've broken a valve spring, I'll have it fixed on monday' . So in short I haven't got the dyno print out yet.

BTW, I did 0-100kmh in 6.1 seconds today with a bit of wheel spin. If I can get it to launch with just a chirp I am sure I could do 5.8 seconds.

Found out the turbo let go and sent bits of bearing through the motor... expensive, but cheaper than fitting another motor.  Looking for one in WTB section.

if its the standard r32 turbo then it may have over boosted and the ceramic wheel/sharft let go common thing to happen, probibly less damage to the engine than you might think. have it checked before spending $1200 on a new engine/$400 for a new turbo from shops or 1/2 that from the for sale section on here!

Been offered some parts. I put an add in the WTB section and I have 2 options from that.

Apparently on Daves Silvia page he quotes a magazine articly that states the turbo is good for 1.2bar or 17 psi. Mine wasn't running anything near that and the mechanic said it is a bushing not the bearing that crapped itself as it is a ball bearing unit. The turbo was still spooling up around 10psi when the motor was running crap so it probably isn't too bad. I will modify the wastegate to run higher boost too because the bushing screwing up was probably causing the heat in the turbo. Anyway, we'll see when I get the car back.

I also had the rev limiter at 6800, I am going to change it up to the factory setting of 7500 so I can hopefully get a 0-100 down from 6.1seconds to something in the 5's

Just got the call, turbo is totally rooted, the mechanic told me to stay away from getting another one. He also said to get an RB25 which should run 15 psi or get mine rebuild with a VL turbo Impeller which can flow 450hp. But that would cost $1500 which I don't have.

I think I'll get the RB25 turbo.

    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
    • Will this fit? but they are staggered set - RAYS 57DR SEMI GLOSS BLACK 18x8.5 +37 | 18x9.5 +38 5-114.3 STAGGERED SET   or If no go could just get a set 4's wheels of 18x8.5 +37 5-114.3 - would i run 8.5's 235s up front n 245's at the back if I do?   Thanks.
    • Put a clamp on your return line. I have a feeling it's sucking air, and introducing bubbles to your fuel. With a lot of fuel, less problematic. I'd honestly be redoing all the lines in the tank and clamps on everything.   Also, you've given two different answers to the same question: Asked if being followed by the police you could get down to use the whole tank, you said yes you could, so long as you keep off boost. However, you then followed this up that free revving, it would also cause the issues. I'm doubting free revving is enough to make any noticeable boost on what is likely a decent sized turbo.   So now I have to ask, can you actually drive it lightly and use all the fuel, or does it break up even free revving? Also, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Can you hear the pump change noise at all when you're having this issue?
