Okay, just got back to melbourne.. decided to check out the conditions of the coil packs and spark plugs..

-Looks like I already have splitfires installed (no visual damage).

-NGK iridium bcpr7iex sparkplugs which looks in reasonable condition.

-The coil pack loom, visually looks like in good condition.

-It was running fine before so I highly doubt it's the tune.

I don't know the condition of the fuel filter, I'll change it however I'll have to wait till it comes in.

I've put everything back together and it runs fine. However, and just as before, sometimes it struggles and runs sluggish. Sounds like a WRX boxer engine...

Maybe it's time to go to the mechanics?

I had a problem with misfiring but ONLY under full boost, 24psi, (12psi was fine)

turned out my coil packs were shorting to earth so I made up some Acetal

mounting plates and the miss is GONE, car has never run smoother!!

I got the idea from an overseas forum where this fix was solving heaps of problems for people.

I was actually thinking of making some more up If people might be interested in purchasing them?

Sorry for being noob! Is this a mounting plate for the coil packs?

Interested at this as I am having very random low rev/low boost misfiring at times.

Ended up being the coilpacks. One of them is faulty. When one of the coilpacks heats up, it starts missing.

To check coilpacks - disconnect them one by one, if the engine misses, that coil is fine, if it doesnt, that coil is faulty.

Replaced them and all good to go again.

Goes to show that even Splitfires can be faulted.

Thanks for the help guys! Problem solved!

Yeah! Thing is, not many forum topics (or that I can find) describes failed splitfire coilpacks.

I hear that OEM is best, but no topic says that Splitfire is inferior in anyway as well.

In saying that, I bought the car with the Splitfires installed. So I don't know how long or how many kms it's been used for...

Splitfires are basically as good as OEM. If they are in service for a lot of years and especially if they are in an engine that cops a flogging across those years, they will age out, the same as the OEM ones do. Nothing lasts forever - it's just that most people haven't reached that age/flog level on Splitfires yet.

    • I've replaced the front brakes of my NA to 324 brembos and 350z calipers: i'm going for 225/40-18 up front and 245/35-18 in the back. I have Rays 7.5*19 ET35(225/35) in the front with 5mm spacers otherwise the calipers "lock up/ won't rotate". When i use the calculator i come up with 8*18 ET30 for 225/40...... but not sure i get problems with the calipers. Anyone riding around with 18 inch. that can confirm "that it'll fit"? In the back it's 7.5*9 ET30 (245/30) with the 5mm spacers, but there is no problem with the standard small brakes, so i want to take 8.5*18 ET25 (245/35).
    • Lol.. but then.. always come back to a JDM..
    • Glad to hear. If possible, get your tuner to check air's to make sure everything is still where it should be.
    • The problem with FB/Insta/Reddit etc comments relating to cars is simple. You get to ask a question once, and get one round of replies. For things that can actually be answered in a few lines of text, once, it's fine. After 6 hours, your original question is lost to the void. There are no follow ups, additional questions, anything. No project car is ever such a simple list of questions to ask. You need discussion.
    • Welcome.  Here's what I have noticed about forum vs FB..... FB; seems to be wallet racing, and the same few questions asked over and over. There *may* be some groups that are closer knit, but most have changed for the worse. SAU; unfortunately, no longer in its glory days. But....genuine people with similar interests. Not all about how much you spent and saying you dont have enough power. Sooooooo much knowledge available. Have personally seen people post up about literally topics I made myself, asking on FB like no one has done it before. Most has been done, and most of that is here.   If you ever feel like just general chatting theres the wasteland.  Other interests are also generally covered in other areas of the forum. Hope you enjoy hanging around. We would love to have you.   P.s. nice 32 😀
