Hi Fam,

I hope this topic hasnt been addressed recently so apologies if so.

Firstly i LOVE this car. Its everything I wanted in a stock Skyline after months of trying to pick the best platform of this beautiful car. The v35just ticked all the boxes for myself and my family.

I have just gone through the process of getting my v35 Coupe history and today I found the car had been wound back.

(Imported to Aus at 101k kms and sold to me almost 18months later with a lovely 83k kms....magical).

How much its been wound back, Im still trying to find out. Its a horrible feeling knowing we were deceived by the previous owner and potentially they were too.

That being said we knew prior to purchase that the owner did NOT have a service history or log books, we just felt the car was in such good condition that perhaps the advertised 84,000kms were true.

The reason for this post and please forgive me if this has already been discussed here, however I wanted to know how other people felt after they received the unwanted news.

i also wanted to know what they did with the car, going forward.

Personally I would like to keep this car and throw a bit of money in it to make it nicer to drive (even though it is a beautiful ride). Its just not knowing exactly how many Km's have been done, not knowing if major services were done after or before landing here in Aus.

I also wanted to get some advice on small increase of performance with Exhaust mods.

Thank you in advance.

I would be trying to find out who imported it and having a little chat with them.

If the car is still in good condition and the engine is healthy, I wouldn't let it get to you too much.

Yes we are trying to track them down.

Previous owner is reluctant to give up the name, but i have a strong feeling it might be one of the yards that are currently getting attention in the media.

Car is straight as an arrow, engine is purring like a kitten and the mechanic seemed to be quite happy with it.

I guess the trick now is to suggest to the missus that because the car is out of whack we will just simply have to modify the shit out of it :P

Cheers all the same.

Pretty sure my 35 was wound back. But, it was in such good condition that the mileage didn't bother me

Thanks Junkie, that encourages me to think more positively about it. I almost feel sorry for the thing sitting there all sheepish in my garage haha.

Just give it a major service and then you'll feel a bit better knowing that what ever has been missed is now up to date.

Yeah if its running really nice then sweet :)

Rebuild engine and put kms back to 0.

Ah, feel better about one illegal act by performing another one yourself.. nice :)

Just chalk it up to experience, it sounds like the car is in good shape, so I wouldn't be too worried about it having done an extra 30,000km or so, you could have just as easily brought one with genuine KM on it, but thrashed to death and it much worse shape than this one.

Actually the thought did enter my head to do the sale of a Lowish KM v35 and act dumb when they ask if the Km's are genuine, however just like you said, this car feels great and there is a small possibility that I could get a genuine low KM car that has not been looked after.

Its weird but since i found out the results of the Odometer search, I havent driven it. Almost like its paused in time until I make the decision to rebuild it or sell it.

Im just now researching the best affordable way to rebuild the engine and add a few ponies.

Cheers again for all the positive responses.

I bought my "03" 350GT Skyline , from ELs , said 14,000klm so I am sure it was wound back, as was my R34GTR , said 17,000 klm, but both cars were clean and no rust, motors ran smooth, so all good.

I put the APS twin turbo system from Autotech on the 350GT and it was great to drive, a real sleeper , loved it , if it was a manual, I would still have it now :)

!!!!! TWIN TURBO - Woah.

May I ask how much that conversion cost you all up?

Couple of pics, cannot see much of the turbo setup, down too low

It was a system, turbos, water, oil upgrade, new exhaust system and some other bits, it was about 10 years ago. They made it for the 350Z and all they had to do was add 10cm to the exhaust pipe length. Lifted the car off the motor, bolted it all together and back together, :)

The system cost around $16,000 but I do not think they use the APS kit anymore, could be wrong ?

Call Autotech 02 98971378, the bloke there was very helpful , Spiro. If they changed the system the new one might be better. But I crapped the first time I pressed hard on the peddle, was not expecting so much extra power. The auto box worked well and it was seamless power at any time you wanted and away you go, never missed a gear, lol, I loved it.

Holy moly, I gotta admit that is not the type of money my missus would be happy about me spending. I would imagine if that was the price 10 years ago its likely to be even more now.

That being said, THAT IS FRIKKIN AWESOME. I want it......holy shit.

Ill give these guys a call anyways and see what they might charge for a full exhaust and filter upgrade.

Cheers for the pics, now all I want is turbos.......after convincing myself I never needed a turbo Skyline in my old age!

Yeah, it is a bit expensive , but there was probably more included than I needed, oil.water and exhaust as I had no intention to do any track and it only had bursts of speed for adrenaline kicks , so it was over kill, maybe just the turbos are an option, OH , even better , get a new missus , LOL

Nothing wrong with Turbos in your old age, I hit 74 in a few weeks :)

Hmmm new missus and Turbos or Happy Life Happy Wife and no turbos......what a dilemma haha

    • So for the wide band is a Bosch 4.9 correct for the Link G4+ along with a Can bus? Just get the Link gear or is generic ok too? Eg here: LINK LINK DIGITAL WIDEBAND CAN MODULE WITH BOSCH 4.9 SENSOR : KYP Performance House
    • Bit difficult to follow. Have a look below and see what the standard R32 layout was like. Note there was a restrictor in place immediately before "turbocharged pressure control solenoid" that, if removed, magically got you 1 bar boost.
    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
