r32GTSTI6
Hey guys im installing a wideband gauge and Im confused, if i pull out the original sensor how will the car be able to check the afr? Or do i have to make a new hole just for the new sensor? GTofuS-T
You either have to make a new hole, or some gauges/controllers come with a narrow band output to send to the ECU to replace the factory sensor Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/466197-installing-wideband-gauge-what-happens-to-the-old-o2-sensor/#findComment-7765032 Share on other sites
Dose Pipe Sutututu
Don't put the wideband where the stock o2 narrow band goes.. you'll destroy the sensor. Best to install it further down where post turbo exhaust temperatures are lower. XGTRX
Just before the cat. Minimum 60 cm from the turbine outlet. r32GTSTI6
Ok thanks guys, so I have to make a new hole, what tool do I use to make the new hole and any recommendations for a cheap gauge and sensor? XGTRX
Usually kits come with an bung that you weld in. Just bring it to an exhaust shop and they will do it in half an hour. Just make sure the bung slightly points down to the floor so you don't get condensation issues on the sensor, so install at about 10 or 2 o'clock Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/466197-installing-wideband-gauge-what-happens-to-the-old-o2-sensor/#findComment-7765051 Share on other sites

KiwiRS4T
Live dangerously. Or take the downpipe off and take that to the shop. And don't ask for a cheap sensor and gauge. Do some reading and find what is a GOOD sensor and gauge. zoomzoom
If you only take the downpipe to an exhaust shop, you wont be able to tell whether the sensor will foul with the body of the car. Since the wire coming off the sensor points towards the body, it is a fine line between getting the sensor vertical, having the sensor clear the body and still have enough room to screw and unscrew the sensor. hardsteppa
From memory the sensor needs to be something like a minimum of 60deg past horizontal to stop moisture issues in the sensor head, which doesn't leave much room to get best angle without hitting on body...so yep really need downpipe on car when marking/fitting into right location.
