The Grand Tour- 2016

Anyone watch the first ep of The Grand Tour?

Chemistry between the 3 was great, production was great. Certainly a freshen up of the ageing TG platform. I did feel it was a little more "scripted" than what the 3 used to do. Felt more like their "live" shows.

Is it better that the new TG? Yes, by a mile..

Yeah did seem a bit more scripted, but I think it was their first episode and they need to settle in with the producers.

Good to have them back, the old TG feels are there.

BTW, Amazon need to get their shit together and let us watch it now instead of in two months. Unless you want to wait 12 weeks then binge watch it.

I've been reading around the interwebs that we can sign up and access Amazon Prime but they choose what we can watch, a bit like Netflix. I think "we" won't see it until December sometime. I think only US and UK get the episodes as they come out.

Off topic, but 'Planet Earth 2', Sir Davo Atto's doco, is going to be aired by channel 9 in 2017 some time. In old tech SD with ads, whereas the think is filmed in 4k lol.

It's worth noting that the f**kwit Bezos is a Trump supporter. Surely theres a connection there?

Maybe sarcastically? https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/nov/18/amazon-jeff-bezos-donald-trump-challenge

Regardless.. should be moved to

Everywhere I'm reading says Amazon Prime launched in Australia just in time for The Grand Tour...

This one implies that as an Australian there doesn't appear to be any geoban on signing up to US or UK Amazon Prime.

Jokes felt a little too forced especially in the tent. Felt way too scripted. Honestly i didn't think the overall show was much better than the new top gear, and this is coming from a huge TG fan. I think it's getting better reviews because of perception of how it will be and who it was, not the actual face value.

TBH i didn't enjoy any of the "studio" Scenes, i didn't enjoy the American racing around the new track, and i didn't enjoy the banter with the crowd at all. Felt much more American than British. The humour between the two is VERY different.

The new track was kind of cool and i did laugh at it, but it's f**ked. The road surface needs completely re doing, and it needs run offs. Look how many times the stig came off the other track in VERY expensive cars. New track say goodbye to said car if that happens. it doesn't look like a track that people will take seriously at all (as top gear was quite well respected in the car industry).

I'll give it a bit to settle, as said above i think they were playing it safe with the new boss.

I did enjoy seeing the 3 of them back, and the banter between them all. That is what made top gear so special. But to be honest it didn't feel special. The very start was really well done and it sort of went downhill from there.

I know it is really never going to be the same, but i worry that the fizz of the show is gone (it felt like it to me). The issue with that is they are paying the 3 of them a LOT of money, the show needs to bring that back. I feel if it doesn't pick up it's game, they will not make the cash back. Incoming pinned show.

I feel like they should have been bold and done a "grand tour" for the first episodes. A 2 or 3 part special touring a country (African special, Vietnam special, something like that).

Alas i will wait a see what this season holds, as for me, i don't really care how good it is, i will watch the 3 out of enjoyment for what was. But i worry for the longevity of the show...

Oh and for those wondering about Amazon i can answer it for you....

They completely removed GEO coding from amazon prime. In theory you can watch it now.... With some catches:

1. The App to watch it doesn't release until a later date (in Australia). So effectively you can't watch it yet.

2. If the show is already licensed to someone else in Australia (foxtel, nitflux), it will still be banned here.

In Theory you could sign up to American Amazon prime and use a VPN that is in America and it should work through a browser on a PC.....

But it isn't available in Australia at the moment, therefore it isn't technically illegal to download it....Until it does release.

I agree with a lot of you on this one. I loved the test of the Porsche, Ferrari and the McLaren, but the rest of it... I could take it or leave it.

It seems as though they have tried to go in a bit of a different direction with the studio/tent pieces. Wasn't my thing, but as always the feature film was fantastic.

    • Have you done the Ignition Sync Wizard in the AEM software?
    • Find out what RPM it was idling at with the IACV unplugged. It's very weird that the rpm didn't change at all, and then it stalled. When it stalls is it nearly like a switch off, like you've turned the engine off? Or is it more stutters and sputters and coughs to death over a few seconds? Or does the RPM just slowly keep going down and down? Have you done a test of trying to start it with the AFM unplugged? Does it still die?     If you Follow Josh's advice on using Nistune to check the voltages (which is a perfect method!) if you see anything out of wack voltage wise, THEN get the multimeter out and read the voltage directly at the sensor. If the two vary, then you're now looking for a wiring issue vs a sensor issue. So be aware, what the ECU sees, may not be what the sensor is actually saying too...
    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
