Electric Problems with Clock and Audio

Hey Guys,

got i little problem with my R33's Radio and clock electrics. A few days ago, my radio and defi gauges were powering on and off when i was driving. Yesterday they failed for good. So today i checked all fuses in the cabin, trunk and engine bay. All were good. Then i checked the constant voltage at my radio: 0 volts. Ignition voltage is working fine but the constant is gone. I just routed an extra cable from the engine bay to my dash for constant 12v and now its working somehow :D Dont know where to look now. I'm out of ideas. Anyone got any ideas ?

Regards

Daniel

PS: Sorry for my bad english, i'm german :D

It sounds as though a connector may have worked its way loose.
Have a look behindbthe behind the dash at the original wiring. Find and connections and inspect/test them. A faulty connection should make itself obvious.
A multi-meter would be helpful for you here.

ps: if you still have a direct line to the battery, make sure you have a fuse inline. :)

A possibility if a few things have failed is the relay on the fuse box, maybe try swapping each (there are a few) and see if the problem moves....

BTW your english is better than most people on this site at this time of year :)

Earlier this day, i checked the fuse box contacts, where the RADIO Fuse is sitting, if i get there any kind of voltage. I pulled out the fuse andi got 12v on of the poles if the ignition is on. But thats not the constand 12v i'm looking for.

Old thread, just in case it could help someone else I had a similar issue and the solution was to check the interior fuse box near the steering wheel. Check each fuse with a multimeter for the resistance /continuity, for me as 12V constant at the radio was not working due to  "ELECTRICS" 10A fuse being blown which is the 6th one from the top on the left.

I traced the wiring diagram and the Red/White wire  (+12V Battery constant) goes to this fuse.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
