1996 R33 GTS-T Series 2 Silver

When the car battery goes flat a few times over a few years, you have to replace the battery etc. due to lack of use you know the time has come to bite the bullet and let the girl go. I have owned this car for near on 10 years, imported into Aus and single owner of it here. It has had a very quiet life living on an acreage for 2 years then in a basement for the next 7 odd, never raced, rarely even driven with gusto. Been the most reliable car i've ever had. For 90% of the time i have owned it was only used on weekends as not long after i got it i moved close to work and train line so its had a boring life ever since.

First things first let me be explicitly clear. I think it has a buggered head gasket (oil/similar in radiator overflow). Noticed it just before christmas after having gotten a new radiator and other stuff in November. Only drove it half a dozen times before realizing and only driven it briefly to charge battery once a week the past few weeks. Car still drives perfectly fine otherwise, it came as a shock. Anyway. Other than the radiator oil/whatever in overflow i cannot find any other symptoms, no smoke or loss of coolant etc. But something is a miss.

She that shall go without name has reiterated many times the car is wasted on me these days and i must finally admit she is right. I rarely use it, i don't need it, it deserves a more active home (and i suppose "she" then gets to use the car space..).

So with that said i have a firm asking price of $6,500 which is think is very good value especially if you're mechanically inclined to fix whatever the issue is above. The car would be a great daily, weekender toy, or track car.

Details as follows:

154k on speedo (genuine, had around 80k when i imported it i think)
Stock turbo running at 10psi (never higher)
FMIC (cooler pro or some such brand cant remember)
Apexi Power FC + hand controller (have stock ECU also)
Apexi Pod Filter + aluminium box
Apexi boost gauge
Aftermarket alarm system + immobilizer
Bilstein shocks
Whiteline springs
18" wheels (dishy starcorp ones, they are well scuffed from time on acreage but hey you'd probably wanna swap them anyway...)
Full 3" exhaust from split/dump (relatively quiet). Exhaust was a kakamoto from Japan i think, splitter/dump was done here.
Window tinting
Nismo leather gearnob
300kph aftermarket dials with blue SMDs (looks great i reckon)
Replaced front headlights new enclosures (over $1k genuine) so look fantastic, using OSRAM nightbreaker bulbs + matching parkers as shown in pic
Pioneer headunit installed last year with bluetooth + Polk Audio front door speakers + sound deadening in doors

Momo tyres x 4 installed 2016

Rego until late March 2017

Also in Nov '16 spent over $2k replacing
- New RDA disc rotors x 4
- New Intima Pads x 4
- New Alloy radiator + piping + Thermostat

Interior is in pretty good condition for age. Leather steering wheel is worn thats about it the rest is all pretty good!

Also can include a replacement illuminated rear SKYLINE garnish (never had it fitted).

Also can throw in the old rotors+pads if wanted. Pads still had some life in them and rotors should be OK if machined (i think?).

Car was serviced every year before rego/pink slip. Originally at powerplay imports, then north shore automotive, then quixspede.

Number plates come with car are semi-custom i like $150 a year or something maybe less but you can just get rid of them and get normal ones. I probably should have before now haha.

The car has a few what i consider minor dings and marks that come with age, and a scratch and crack on the front spoiler lip, thought all could be fixed and touched up quite easily. Happy to give details if anyone genuinely interested.

Please msg here or SMS 0404 949 424 if genuinely interested. No trades.

Located near Chatswood NSW.

A stack of tire kicking lonely blokes wanting to chat it seens (and silly offers/trades). If car isn't sold in the next week or so im gonna fix and keep it. Too good a car to give away, can't believe it hasn't been snapped up its a crazy bargain.

Haha cheers mate! well if it doesnt sell in next 2 weeks then i might put it back up for sale later in the year (but higher price since i would of forked out to fix the engine issue).

Probably better off fixing the engine issue mate; head gasket scares a lot of people even if it's a $1500-2000 fix with a mechanic and this car looks quite tidy from your pics. If only I had the space and could afford a third rego lol

But yeah, get it fixed I reckon, could easily add 3k to the price and get it

...people just get a bit scared if they have to put in some work to get something 100%

Yeah, especially it being a head gasket most people wouldn't want to take that drama on because of how long it's been blown and how bad the damage could be, etc...

Yeah for sure :) looks like thats what i'll do as time is running out before i go overseas for a trip which is my dead line to sell/fix. Happy to get it fixed and put back up for sale later on (it's a much better bargain right now though). Only reason thrown up for sale as i mentioned is i just don't use/need it so thought maybe a buyer out there who wanted a steal since the cost to fix it mostly the labor.

IMO hang onto it until the dawn of time...one day people will be looking hard and paying top dollar for good examples of these cars. They are already getting scarce!

    • Have you done the Ignition Sync Wizard in the AEM software?
    • Find out what RPM it was idling at with the IACV unplugged. It's very weird that the rpm didn't change at all, and then it stalled. When it stalls is it nearly like a switch off, like you've turned the engine off? Or is it more stutters and sputters and coughs to death over a few seconds? Or does the RPM just slowly keep going down and down? Have you done a test of trying to start it with the AFM unplugged? Does it still die?     If you Follow Josh's advice on using Nistune to check the voltages (which is a perfect method!) if you see anything out of wack voltage wise, THEN get the multimeter out and read the voltage directly at the sensor. If the two vary, then you're now looking for a wiring issue vs a sensor issue. So be aware, what the ECU sees, may not be what the sensor is actually saying too...
    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
