Torques
What would be the differences between the gearboxes for S1/S2/GTT? Are they interchangeable, is one stronger than the other? I noticed that rebuild kits for S1 and S2 differ.. Thanks Edited February 20, 2018 by Torques Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/473369-r33gtst_s1-vs-r33gtst_s2-vs-r34gtt-gearbox-differences/ Share on other sites
Griffin
Are the the same externally? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/473369-r33gtst_s1-vs-r33gtst_s2-vs-r34gtt-gearbox-differences/#findComment-7868316 Share on other sites
GTSBoy
13 minutes ago, Griffin said: Are the the same externally? Yes, except that R34 is pull clutch. Internally, I think the differences are details like synchro and selector parts having design changes. thebe
So you cant tell the difference between s1 and s2 box by looking at the outside? GTSBoy
I don't know if they're that identical. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/473369-r33gtst_s1-vs-r33gtst_s2-vs-r34gtt-gearbox-differences/#findComment-7868459 Share on other sites
thebe
Yeah I've heard there might be some differences but havent been able to find any exact info. Looking to buy a second hand gearbox for my ecr33 and would prefer a s2 box due to cheaper and easier to find rebuild kits and if they have a bit better internals. Problem is, sellers dont usually know what series their box is Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/473369-r33gtst_s1-vs-r33gtst_s2-vs-r34gtt-gearbox-differences/#findComment-7868527 Share on other sites
Torques
OK, thanks for that. I would assume that with development of the car (S1/S2/GTT) design changed would have been made. I read somewhere that the late S2 (so 1998) gearboxes have larger synchros .. Snara
I was wondering the same but in R33 GTR S1, S3 and R34 Gt-four. I heard about double synchros in R34? True? I actually blow up my 3 gear in s1 box Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/473369-r33gtst_s1-vs-r33gtst_s2-vs-r34gtt-gearbox-differences/#findComment-7868548 Share on other sites
Torques
You should possibly ask about that in the forum .. I have no experience with these boxes, but it might be worth looking into buying a GTT gearbox (and the clutch conversion) For R33 S2, the gearbox was changed 05/1998. The part number is 32010-21U60!
