Handbrake warning light not coming on

I noticed today that when I was driving home that when I applied the handbrake that there was no warning light on on the dash. Not long before that I had very stupidly not taken it off when I pulled away and there was a thump while I was driving. I thought my handbrake was broken at that point, but when I was stopped on a hill I applied and it worked fine, but no light came on. Will this be a sensor that is broken most likely? I am not sure even where to start looking. Any pointers appreciated.

Cheers.

The switch is under the lever.  You need to remove the console to see it.

Up until you said it coincided with the thump event, I would have said "check the globe".  I still think that coincidence is possible and that you should check the globe.

I just had this very same issue last week.

Turns out the handbrake sensor wire under the gaitor had somehow broken and come out of the little white plug... Should easily be visible if you remove the handbrake gaitor and be able to push it back in without removing the center console.
