Hey everyone,

This is more of a question what you guys think of my camshafts. Should I replace them, should I look for further troubles elsewhere? Am I making mountains out of molehills and should expect this from such a hot engine?

You do realise that they're just dirty, right?

The yellow is varnish, cooked on from not having suitable oil changes. The black is grunge baked onto the base circle where/when it doesn't touch the bucket.

Unless you clean them up and find that they actually have worn through the face, they are fine.

But that engine has been owned and operated by an utter f**kwit at some point.

Thank you GTS. Agreed on the previous owner.

Since you're that far already, why not pop in new valve springs, valve stem seals & cams with higher lift/bit more duration.

And..... might as well put in a Samsonas.

May as well skip even more steps and f**k up the motor so it can sit there not running for a few years.

    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.

    • It's all about the socialisation of the dogs. In that first 8 to 16 weeks of age they need to be taught to be nice and friendly with everything. That way they generalise it to everything. That said, some days you'll just never beat genetics, but 99% of the time dogs chasing cats is purely lack of socialisation, and then the chasing part can turn into prey drive.
    • I bench bled my HFM BM57 before installing, it leaked badly. Threw it in the bin, because I installed it 2 years after purchase.
