rb20-calais
At $80 a pop they seem very cheap, my questions are (as their website does not stipulate) On these days is there timing equiptment or not? Do any of you guys ever attend them? What kind of track time do you get, etc? Can you have passengers? Could i run full slicks on my car? Thanks Evan Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/48720-questions-about-wakefield-no-speed-limit-days/ Share on other sites

Tosh
On these days is there timing equiptment or not? No, bring a stopwatch and a mate Do any of you guys ever attend them? As much as possible What kind of track time do you get, etc? Depends on numbers and types or cars. The first open day I ever went to there were about 15 of us and all street cars so they left the track open all day to everyone and we just went out whenever we wanted and for as long as we wanted The last one there were race cars there as well so they split the road cars from the race cars into 20 minute sessions each. The numbers then got so high they decided to split the road car car's into 2 20 minute sessions each. but generally you'll get ALOT of track time Can you have passengers? Yes but they will need a helmet, they'll need to sign the form and they WILL need a Wakefield Lience Could i run full slicks on my car? Sure, just not on the drive to and from the track Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/48720-questions-about-wakefield-no-speed-limit-days/#findComment-978034 Share on other sites

benm
Trackdays in general are fairly busy until about 1:30pm where cars start to retire (break down), people start watching instead of participating and others go home early (the same can be said with drag racing at WSID). Wakefield is a fantastic track to learn on. My lap times went from 1:35sec -> 1:21sec on my first outing and I was barely pushing the car (more so pushing myself to trust the car). I think with some semis-slicks and another 50 laps of practice (my car did close to 90 laps on my first time at Wakefield) that I could be down into the 1:15's Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/48720-questions-about-wakefield-no-speed-limit-days/#findComment-978157 Share on other sites

benm
I think out of Oran Park, Wakefield and Eastern Creen that Oran Park would be the most difficult. . . Duncan
Yeah Oran Park is probably the most challenging to come to grips with at first, the last 2 corners seem intimidating when you first try The 2nd last corner is flat over a blind crest into the left hander....all you can see is paddock in fornt of you, its pretty frightening at first. But once you know where the track goes its easy to remember it always goes the same way And the last turn looks intimidating at first with the wall so close, but unless you are *really* pushing you won't come anywhere near it. I've scraped it a few times in the race car, but only when I'm absolutely flat out during a race...and as they say, the closer you are when you hit it, the less it hurts... rb20-calais
Roy, Sounds good to me and that date looks good as well, I will see what my mate says. We will probably take: Towcar + trailer + his car and my car just in case something goes wrong down there so if we do go there is some insurance for you. He has the trailer/tow car so I will just have to clear the date with him. My first track experience, cant wait Evan Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/48720-questions-about-wakefield-no-speed-limit-days/#findComment-978366 Share on other sites
rb20-calais
I just purchased 4 x Pirelli 225/650/18 D Compound slicks with 75% left for a bargain price, hope they do well on the track, anyone used them before, any comments? rb20-calais
I might look at doing this moto concepts one now I'm not sure, but definately want to try wakefield. My mate is very keen on me joining the club his family is in "southern sports car club" and doing sprints, etc. Good thing about this would be that his dad is a mechanic and would help me out. All i know is I keep speeding on the street (makes me feel guilty and generally shit), I really need to take it to the track. Merli
I definitely suggest going to Wakefield a few times before tackling Eastern Creek. Get used to picking racing lines and learn how your car handles at the limit. Wakefield is basically a racetrack in a big dirt field... It's short and tight, and really tests skills. If you stuff up, there's literally nothing to hit, so you just turn your car around, dust yourself off and go at it again... Great learning curve at Wakefield. Eastern Creek however is a very high speed track. With speeds of upto 260km/h+ down the main straight, and corner speeds of 180-190km/h, if you stuff up (which you're bound to do when you're still learning how to drive on the racetrack), the results can be quite ugly. Flashbacks of R33 GTRs running off the track at 200km/h and having a tea party with a wall and Porsche's spinning out and saying hello to concrete walls at Turn 12... rb20-calais
eeeek. Thanks for the advice, if I was to go I wouldnt be alone I would be with a mate who has driven oran, wakefield, ec many times, he tells me that in his opinion oran park is one of the hardest tracks. I will ask him and his dad and see what they say. top advice thanks Merli Evan Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/48720-questions-about-wakefield-no-speed-limit-days/#findComment-979114 Share on other sites
Amaru
Roy, will you be stopping in at wakefield on the 9th september? Hopefully if the cars done (its in getting fuel system done at the moment) I should be down there on the 9th for my first track outing. Would be good meeting up with some people off here... still interested in coming down Merli? Fingers crossed Ewen/Aurora will have his car back on the road and come along too.
