Hey everyone, Ive been thinking lately what i want for a next car and i decided either a R32 skyline or Sr20det silvia. The major plus with the skyline for me is that its a much better looking car and the interior is much nicer. Only problem is im not sure how much 3rd party insurance would be for the skylines. I know i can get 3rd party F&T for a silvia at $600 odd. So what i want to know is how does a skyline compare to a silvia in terms of potential with power, handling even avaliability with parts.

thanks for your help.

No point in owning a GTS4 if you are going to run in it RWD all the time (and its not good for the front diff!). R32 + S13 should be on par for 3rd party insurance. S13 is lighter and will S13 will probably perform better with the right mods, compared to the R32. But then again, the R32 is much more of car for the money and has more style than a Jap Gemini.

Tough one to decide on as they are both good cars, but I'd go the Skyline - looks better and is built stronger.

Well i wouldnt run it rwd all the time just if i want to take it to the drags awd would be good and for some drift rwd is good. But yes its a hard decision cause they are both around the same price. The skyline is winning it now cause of the looks of the body and interior.

Awesome sounds good. Can anyone give me advice on the 89 model R32's you can import? If i can find a fairly low km model would it be a good option to have? Or skylines that old are pretty dodgy? Ive had a look on prestige motorsport and they have them for around 10,000.

Just picked this thread up. "Lifes like a box of chocolates" so are the Skylines we buy. 89 R32 Hmmm. Sounds like for you it will boil down to the $$$$. Just get the compression test on anything you buy so that you have a good base to work from Menco.

This aint the for sales but if your keen for a GTS-T R32 (93) Metalic Black with the goods I'm selling mine to pay for an R32 GTR (93) I just bought. Take care Guys.

Seems every ones out of the room!

Nite

Buy the r32 gtst, the sr20det silvia is way quicker and handles far better than the skyline in stock form, and if you want to be a poser definately buy the r32-it is slower but looks better and the turbo is way noisier :P

LOL, try telling my flatmate that. His std S13 handles like a bucket of sh1t, i mean horrible. But who cares about how they handle std as its quite rare to find a completely std one like my flatmates 180SX

I think the thread starter should drive an sr20det s13 before listening to the opinions of those in this thread.

In my experience. people who vouch for the gtst over the sr20det have never driven an sr20det. Or either for that matter :P

YES the silvia will always be the underdog car, but will always outperform the gtst in stock form and mod for mod when it comes time to duke it out. :)

menco can decide which one has the nicer exterior/interior just by looking at a few photos on the internet. But its the driving experience that can't be translated into words onto a forum.. you really have to experience both cars in modified + unmodified form, like I have, and work it out for yourself.

And for the record, a debadged, dewinged lowered silvia looks pimp. especially on 18s.

ezy decision. ive owned a non turbo s15, and now own a non turbo r33. skyline pisses all over it. even though they are both non turbo, the luxury of a line is heaps better.

BTW, wat kindov question is that in a skyline forum???

How the hell did you get a non-turbo S15? They were never sold over here and you can't import them, unless you lived in Japan for 12 months and then privately imported it.

I owned a S13 Silvia and now I own a R32GTS-T...

S13 was probably quicker down a straight line, however, you can't beat the build of a Skyline...

In my opinion my silvia just didn't cut it, the interior was bland, cheap and had no appeal. Although I must admit I do like the SR20 powerplant better as it will eat an RB20 mod for mod everytime...

I ran my old Silvia with my Skyline and got my arse handed to me... But as I said the Skyline is a much better build, handles better and driving everyday is much much more comfortable...

Power/engine - Silvia

Build quality/handling - Skyline

    • Hi mate I am having an identical issue with my 98 R34 GTT. The engie suddenly cuts out under load at about 3-4k, black smoke out exhaust. Almost feels like traction control kicking in. No CEL but still going to check codes later today. Car was sitting in the shed for about 5 months before hand and only idled a few times, took her out with about 1/4 tank, filled up and thats when the issues started happening.  Threw on a spare set of coils/harness and checked plugs which was no help. Recently had fuel pump/filter changed so surely thats not the issue unless condensation in fuel, I just havent had the time to drain it It's running a hi flow turbo, bosch 1000cc injectors, walbro 450L, Z32, Nistune etc... All about 2000km old.
    • I always wonder where the obsession with legal/illegal spacing on number plates in the UK comes from. Because it comes up in comments in every UK-based video I see on youtube. From my point of view all of your plates look a bit odd. Just because there are no markings whatsoever. In Australia we have the state that has to be on it. In Europe you get stamps and state logos. Yours look a bit like a throwaway draft that people then stuck with. And attached with blu tack so that it falls off at the slightest disturbance. Not trying to hate, but it's interesting how things are done in different countries. Do you have to follow a lettering convention when choosing a custom plate?
    • Hybrid sounds like a supercharger... It's half a turbo, with a belt to drive it! Oh wait, they're just called super chargers...
    • It's either an ignition failure or a fuel failure.
