Hope it clears up today. Wanted to go for a drive, maybe north side, and check out Rosie.

Friggin windy & rainy still but a glimpse of blue sky - hopefully blow over

It's sunny over this side - I'm heading over to Rob's (2mins from my place) and working on Rosie (Spark plugs) - Can go for a quick cruise-about afterwards if you're heading to the North shire Richard?

Having a suspicious engine cut out at 5,500 RPM in 3rd.

how much boost are you running?Im running 14PSI and its still alright for a 1.1gap.Im changing mine soon and not sure if i should stay with bigger gap as it gives a better spark or just go for 0.8gap

I'm running 14 PSI at 5,000 RPM and when it gets to around 6,000 RPM a MASSIVE boost increase happens - Rob can confirm this weirdness. However, the Engine cut out has been fixed after Rob and I changed the Sparkies. I think the gap was 0.8 (Rob can confirm).

Surely 14 PSI is unsafe - I was planning to get a R32 GTR Accularator (Spelling?) which will give me 10 PSI.

pretty sure you mean an r32 gtst wastegate actuator. It's the brass fitting that controls boost through the turbo's internal wastegate.

But unless you can easily find one, it is just as easy to use a standard actuator and a bleed valve to get 10-12psi. If you are running 14psi someone has already been fiddling with your boost control, but it's not really like an instant turbo death sentence

32 GTST Actuator. You talk to me...

I honestly think it is all plumbed in wrong and is bleeding all actuator pressure back into the BOV return pipe, therefore Not opening the Gate.

I thought maybe as 33 turbs seem to Splode over 12 psi maybe 34 OP6 turbs would possibly be the same safe level???

Edit* Are OP6s steel not ceramic?

um - not sure that's good value for money. Check through Cooma Diesel (GCG, Garret reps) the cost ....

I was quoted $900+ per turbs way back when.

New = $1250ea for -7's. Now they are $2300 a pair.

You may wish to join Erics GB on the HKS ss' when you find out the price.

He's doing a pair with full kit for $3k :D

(expect commission if he does Mr Deziner)

You guys totally lost me. So 14 PSI is too much and should be at 12 PSI.

What's this about rebuilding a turbo? Kinda want to avoid that.

EDIT: So 14 PSI max is okay - but to be safe I should be at 12 PSI?

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
