CF bonnet rejection :(

Hi guys!

I was interested in getting a carbon fibre bonnet for my 1996 R33 GTST... so I gave VICROADS a call to verify its legality. And guess what... they told me that cars made after 1995 July is not allowed to have a carbon fibre or fibreglass bonnet period!!! But why do I see R34 GTT with carbon fibre bonnets roaming around the streets (i'm assuming all R34 GTT were made after 1995)? Any advice and suggestions is much appreciated!

u see r34's roaming around an any other post 95 cars with CFB's because they dont bother to ring vicroads to ask like u did:D u could always respray ur CFB to match the car...then again that defeats the whole purpose of having one:D

thats if your purpose is to have a carbon look bonnet.

but if your purpose is to have a lighter bonnet, then if its resprayed the same colour as your car its pretty much no heavier anyways.

its an excuse, soon they'll realise that a lot of youngins arent buying late model 33's and 34's as much, and see all the 180s etc so they'll make it out "no cars other than model t fords will be able to have a carbon fibre bonnet fitted"

Theres no problems with a full proper carbon fibre bonnet (as is found as factory equipment on the R34 GTR V-Spec II and Nur's).

The problem is the copies that most places sell (around the $1000 mark) are not 100% carbon fibre bonnets, they are actually fibreglass with carbon fibre weave layed and glued on over the top. In accidents its known that the bonnet will do one of two things, (a) smash into a million pieces or (B) not smash and come straight back through the windscreen. The bonnets do not bend in a frontal impact as required by ADR's.

A genuine carbon fibre bonnet itself is pretty "doughy" and bends.

Thats the way it is in ACT anyways...

thats the way it is here too... but i dont see why u cant have one on a late model car like they said.

its the same with fibreglass front guards... also illegal cause glass splinters off

yes, its hard to believe but people driving around with illegal modifications such as carbon fibre bonnets.. omfg.. :gasp: I mean the nerve of some people!

and a fibreglass front bar can't splinter off and kill somebody.. its all a joke..

I've always been a fan of the R-tune Nismo bonnet but would paint it to match the car. Only problem is finding a decent one!
