P-plate crash couple engaged to be married

December 21, 2004 - 1:00PM

A young couple killed when their sports car slammed into a power pole in Sydney's west overnight were engaged to be married, police said today.

The 32-year-old brother of the male driver, who was travelling in the back of the car, was also injured in the accident and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The couple was killed when their Nissan Skyline clipped the front of a four wheel drive at the intersection of Milperra Road and Marigold Street, Milperra, just after 11pm (AEDT) yesterday before hitting a power pole, police said.

The 21-year-old driver from Chester Hill and his 20-year-old fiancee, from Villawood, died at the scene.

``The driver and the front seat passenger were engaged to be married and the back seat passenger was the brother of the driver,'' Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit Commander Peter Jenkins told reporters.

Police are investigating the possibility the Skyline was racing a silver car before it collided with the four wheel drive.

It's been happening all the time.... it's just being sensationalised more today than what it was a few years ago.
And why???

Because Macca's (city dwelling Holden rednecks of AU) can see that the current generation have hardly any support for local product (ie: Holden) so they (the rednecks in this case, posing as do gooders) are pushing the authorities to get these cars (ie: Skylines) banned by way of sensationalizing EVERY accident involving Skylines, even though Commadoor accidents outweigh Skyline accidents 50 to 1... a dirty trick, but when was the last time someone named 'Macca' gave you a fair go?

Actually Holden is bringing in record profits, and is one of the few local companies that speak out against our draconian traffic laws, they also do alot to promote the performance car industry and motorsport in general.

Probably the biggest company trying to ban imports is actually Toyota Australia, it's been well documented that toyota has long pushed for tighter restrictions on grey imports.

I must say I agree with Rezz here...

In the same newspaper that reported this story, this article was lower down the page:

A teenager was burned to death after the car he was driving left a road in the West Australian coastal town of Denmark.

His Holden Commodore careered into two trees before splitting in half and bursting into flames, police said.

The 16-year-old, who did not hold a valid WA driver's licence and was not the owner of the car, was driving along South Coast Highway at around 10.30pm last night.

Police are attempting to identify the teenager using DNA and dental records, while crash investigators are looking into whether excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

Meanwhile, a 23 year-old man continues to fight for his life in Karratha hospital following an accident yesterday that instantly killed a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman.

The injured man was a back seat passenger in the Toyota Camry Sedan, that was driven by the dead man.

Police said the car struck two embankments, as it approached the Six Mile Creek crossing near Karratha, 1,500km north of Perth.

Backing up, down the bottom of the article about the Skyline crash, you will find this little snippet of news:

One man died and another remained in a critical condition in hospital last night after the accident on the M4 between Reservoir Rd and the Prospect Highway.

The men, both aged 41, were travelling west when the driver lost control of the car about 6pm.

The Ford Laser hit a guard and flipped several times before stopping, killing the driver and trapping the passenger. The passenger remains in a critical condition in hospital.

There were traffic delays for more than four hours.

A huge queue of traffic stretching 2km caused headaches for peak hour commuters, while police and crash investigators worked to clear the road.

Then it continues:

Meanwhile a 39-year-old cyclist also died yesterday after he was hit by a truck south of Wollongong.

The man was riding along the F6 at Berkeley when he was struck by a truck towing a trailer of soil shortly before 1.30pm.

It's understood he suffered a heart attack after the collision.

..but wait, there's more...

Earlier in the day, six people were injured when a truck and a bus collided at Enfield during peak hour.

The State Transit bus was en route to Campsie when it stopped on Coronation Parade, only to be hit by a tipper truck. A dog trailer on the back of the truck appeared to hit the rear right corner of the bus.

You're only evil if you drive a flashy car.

Doesn't matter if it's being sensationalised or not. It shouldn't be happening in the first place.

you're missing the point.

What I'm trying to point out here, is that people are killed every day on the road.

But since the release of movies like "fast and furious", the media only make a fuss over it when the cars involved are imports.

At least 4 other people were killed on the road yesterday, including an unlicenced 16 year old in a commodore..... but i dont see that making headline news.

I like Rezz's Maccas theory.

The Macca's are also the ones who read the Daily Telegraph here in Sydney, and its evil scumbag owner (also known as one R Murdoch) is a savvy man who has determined he can sell more papers by feeding the Maccas exactly what they want to read each day.

At the moment, it's stories about high powered import cars crashing, preferably driven by P-platers (for the reasons Rezz listed).

And since most of the researchers on the excuses they call television current affairs shows these days can't be bothered to actually develop a story, they just regurgitate whatever the papers are saying is so, giving the issue even more prominance.

The Telly is well known for its crusades - the last big one from memory was the pokies (old Rupert isn't a gambling man either).

It's ironic they don't see the any of the other deaths on the road as worthy of a campaign -but I guess the Maccas would stop paying their $1 each day if the truth was too close to home.
