To minimize the spillage when removing the cooler... find two bolts to plug up the hoses with :D

Works a charm...

Remember, DO NOT EMPTY THE OIL INTO THE DRAIN! How would you like it if someone poured oil in your water bottle :P

So, how do you fill the oil up again? I take it there is a dipstick to check the level?

If you pull the top hose off and run the motor to empty the trans, wouldn't the cooler itself still be full of oil (and it would subsequently go everywhere)?

You fill the tranny through the dipstick tube.

I just pissed oil overwhere. Removed the hoe here and there and tried to get all i could. First i drained the sump though.

Also, i didnt jack my car up as i didnt want it on an angle to drain the oil.

I got a funnel and some hose, put them together, and stuck the hose in the dipstick tube. That is my dodgy assed method.

Alex, I've never totaly drained an auto with out taking converter out. Were u able 2 do that or r u only draining out what is pan and cooler lines. 2lt. doesn't sound much 4 an auto box. I want drain completely if poss. to fill with fresh fluid. I recon the auto would love that and may also sharpen changes a bit!. Cheers.

I removed the pan, you get about 1 to 2 litres, replace this with the same amount as you get out, also clean the filter while the pan is off, mine was filthy. Then take the line off the cooler thats coming from the box, start the car and pump out and measure 1 litre of oil, turn the car off, then replace it, keep repeating this until the oil looks clean.

Took about 8 litres for the oil to become clean.

From what i understand they hold around 12 litres all up.

just a quick one to all those after trans coolers i have just had some PWR >_< coolers come into Supercheap Auto that are priced at the same as our generic one $85 :D:yes: for one that is rated for a V8. If you are after one and have trouble getting hold of one PM me and i will get one for you

How about a variation... take the cooler inlet hose off, dunk it in a bucket marked 'old transmission fluid', and put this down low, say on the ground. Then, attach a length of temporary hose to the inlet of the cooler, and hold this in your new oil container.

...or, to make things easier on the trans oil pump, you could arrange a gravity-fed setup of a clear plastic bottle inverted, with the hose in the lid. That way you can even meter the level going in... I've never tried this but thought it could work?

Hey guys it seems that nobody has asked yet, but is the trans cooler upgrade as relevent to series 2's? They appear to have a much more substantial cooler than the S1's simple "finned loop" - looks like a 'proper' radiator (same style as radiator), don't know my tube & fin from my plate & bar tho. Just wondered if the tiptronic needs something bigger than that?

I have finally fitted the large (Davies Craig) auto transmission cooler to the Stagea. The part number I chose was 678 which is the largest universal (280 X 216 X 19) I could find with 3/8" fittings. The catalogue specifies for engines "4.2 litres and over"

Go into Supercheap and see if the 678 is bigger than yours. If not I read in a US car magazine a suggestion to go to the scrap merchant and get a huge heat exchanger out of an aircond unit basically for the price of the scrap value. Then you have to make up your own mounts and buy some hoses.

Fitted a PWR cooler last friday. Was a rather easy task. I used the same bracket and just drilled an extra hole in the cooler and bracket the same as SK did.

Felt the cooler today after driving to work-30 min freeway drive and it was warm to touch but not hot at all.

Also looks mean from the front cos intercooler is down low then in the grill on the left you can just see the trans cooler :)

i still dont have one, my trans is waiting on gasket and filter before i can service it(getting genuine nissan brought in) i have a shit kit, and my fluid is as new, over 12months and 30k km on!

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share that I visited MV auto's in Adelaide about my standard (as far as I know) trans cooler on my S2. It is pretty large, a lot more substantial than the S1's and possibly even larger than the Davies Craig jobbie in those pictures that SK fitted. MV's advice was that it was a good size and didn't require upgrading; only that it would need relocating if I was to fit an intercooler. Which I will do eventually... and a high-stall convertor is sounding more like a good idea as my GCG hi-flow turbo is lacking in stall-launches compared to the stock turbo.

As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
