Heya,

How easy is it to tell a CF bonnet (sprayed white) from a normal bonnet?

Also, are there any legal ways to get a vented bonnet so as to not get defected?

Ohh, whilst on topic of legality.. does NSW have the 1 intake mod rule? and if i still have stock intercooler, does the pod still need to be boxed? A partition is not a box right? lols

thanks

- Eric

when he goes to open your bonnet to check out your engine bay I *think* he may notice that it ways about a quarter of what a normal bonnet does. That may give the game away...

This may, or may not concern anyone but I've always wanted a aluminium bonnet for my car because of the weight saving and legality/practicality.

CF is great on a track but imagine hitting someone/being involved in an accident.

I imagine that stuff splinters, and as if someone being hit by a car isn't bad enough imagine the whole bonnet splintering into them, or into another car as it impacts you (or you impact them).

I think they're illegal for a reason, and unlike most stuff that's illegal to modify I think it's illegal for a good reason. Mind you having said that I've never seen one in an impact so maybe I'm over-dramatising.

*shrug* something to think about. (Oh and if you have insurance they might not pay you because your car isn't legal).

If you're comfortable with all that then go for your life - when I can afford it I will be getting an aluminium custom. As for you skyline boys I think you can just swap a GTR bonnet right?

unless its in a legal rta document i wouldnt beleive a thing.
I'd have to strongly agree with that. It depends who at the RTA you call, what day and at what time as to the answer you get.

Basically just make sure you always have a jar of lube for your ass when you are out in your car...

  • 3 weeks later...

Pod filters do not have to be in an airbox. Just get the thing engineered.

As for CF bonnets, I was always under the assumption that they are owner certified, meaning that they do not have to be engineered to be legal. Probably the best person to speak to would be an engineer. They'd be more consistent than the RTA.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
