Hey guys,

I am moving soon and have an important question about car storage. I am very worried about getting a hosue that has no car port or garage, How bad is leaving your car in the sun and rain? does it make it age noticably quicker? Is a car port much better then leaving it in the open? Does the sun damage in the interior?

any information would be handy.. thanks...

Nothing a good wash/buff/detail won't get out man...

Think about it, majority of ppl's cars are pretty old already and with a good buff and detail it can bring back the paintwork to near-new.

Just don't store it under a sap-dripping tree or something like that and you'll be fine :)

yeah or birdshit trees :)

Elements obviously take their toll over time ..... bus it a pretty long time and hey who's car doesnt sit out in the sun etc while they are at work? at the shops? etc ..... my car (when its on the road) probably spends about 75% of its time out in the elements.

I'm anal about my car, I try never to park it outside, if I have to, I put a car cover on it. My main criteria when looking for a new house recently was "must have a lockup garage... that is all"

Leaving it out in the sun / elements just accelerates, rust, paint fade, scratches, risk of being keyed, deterioration of the rubber and interior.

Plus, if you have a dark colour car you will be continuously washing it.

Yeah, same as everyone above. Mine is parked in a basement/secure garage.

Ensure that you don't let it ANYWHERE near bore water sprinklers. My ex-girlfriend left my old Pulsar under some bore water sprinklers while I was out of the city, came back a couple of days later, lots of little horrible coloured water marks all over it.

Needless to say I slapped her down, but that didn't fix my paint :)
