Hey guys,

I've had enough of crappy woolworths/franklins air fresheners. I see them on 2/3 cars and they smell bad and over powering.

I'm thinking to import my own (all from Japan) and start a business and need some feedback.

Hopefully I can get enough of these things that will appeal and if I can get enough of them they will be less or the same price as the ones sold currently.

I will be selling them through ebay and probably at events at driftnats and such. Obviously profit won't be great but really it's more about my statement on companies that offer shit quality products and get complecent about being a duopoly. The business side of it will hopefully work out based on volume.

I've trialled a few of these various air fresheners and products with friends and such and they all think they're great.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Specifically -

1- do you buy air freshener for your car - if not why not?

2- are you entirely happy with air fresheners commonly available and why?

3- would you be comfortable ordering this stuff from ebay or a website if the price was right?

4- would you pay $12 an air freshener to your door if it lasted the same or longer as a $12 currently available equivelent but looked cooler and smelt better.

5- would you be interested in ones specifically for smokers?

6- any other comments/questions.

I won't be selling (i dont think) those leaf/tree things but how long do they last? I've found they're too fullon for a few days then they just die.. more so if you have your windows/sunroof open alot.

Reckon I just got a dodgey one?

well, personally i think the $8 or so for those Ambi-Pure are a complete ****ing rip, for a bit of perfumed water, and a little plastic refill, and about $7.50 worth of marketing. And the 50c you save for a "refill" (exactly the same thing except the 50c bit of plastic) is another complete joke. I know I am going to be able to retire on those savings each time.

That said, they at least do the job well, and give you about 6-8 weeks of good smell out of your car.

If you can import them, and they are *cheaper* and do exactly the same job, I'd buy them.. but only if *cheaper* - like $3-$4 each

Some one needs to create one that smells nice when you have the aircon on hot.

um... air-con on "hot"?

Wouldn't that be the heater?

...anything vanilla, i'll buy it.

My car smells like a cross between an ashtray and an ice-cream.

I've tried the trees, other cardboard based air fresheners and they don't last very long.

I also have issues with the fact that if they touch anything plastic, it kills the plastic.

I have tried the little balls that you put in the ashtray, they smell great but don't last long.

The little bottles of "perfume" stuff are just way too over powering, and cause me to dry reach.

The clips that go onto the vents are the best ones i've found so far.

you can get the clip on ones for about $6 and often twin packs for the same price if they are on sale (like recenetly at supercheap) but yeah about $6-8 dollars.

i dont use them because my suspension is so stiff its risky clipping anything anywhere.

with the leaf things u are not meant to take them right out of the pack, you are meant to just open the plastic, so the smell comes slowly and lasts... however i always just rip it out and it usually lasts me two weeks. and at $1.80 each (or similar for the magic tree) its not too bad..

most of the liquid clip one ones usually smell like bathroom(public) cleaner to me.

wat i do with the magic tree is i get the vanila and the new car ones and cut em both in half and put em in my ash tray (i dont smoke) and leave the ash tray open about 5mm

i find the last for at least a month and i love the smell :D

I personally can't stand the magic trees. But, that's just personal preference. They are quite cheap though. I love the smell of those ambi purs, and on special at autobarn etc, they're like $5 for the full thing.

Tom, if you go to motoquipe hornsby (Lets just say i'm not recommending them, but, just using their place as reference, because they're the only ones who sell it.) They have these asian ones. They blue one is ****ing nice. I think they're about $15. They last ages, and they're really nice. Is it like those?

Hmm. well to import I doubt they could be sold for $6. But I wouldn't buy air freshener for $15 so why would anyone else?

I dono where motoquipe is but I will take some photos of ones I have here already as samples. They're the ones I gave to friends and everyone thought they were great as they weren't over powering and last ages, as well as having a nice smell in the first place.

I've also got a coal pad that will "be disrespectful to odours and eat odour" and things like that :D

I'll post up photos after I come back from a "cerebral CT scan" ... apperantly I'm too cool to be human so they wanna take pictures of my brain ("so you mean it ain't me noggin it's me peepers?")

i liek strawberry n grape ..... i get these special ones that look more like the things you put in your toilet to make it smell nice - but they last long and make the yukky boyfriend grease n petrol smell go away.

my friend somehow gets this tin cans, pink in colour. from california

they are scented puffy things inside the can (sie of a tuna can)

you simply open the can like a normal tuna can a bit and leave it somewhere in your car

it smells awesome. 100% effective and lasts like a few years (i had one in my old vl)

will try and find out name/distributor

the last one on the page. 60days pfft. after like 6 months. flip the little puffy thing inside the can over, upside down and it will work for another 6 months. seriously these things are awesome

    • Hey everyone. Is there a way I can get the original window sticker (maroney label) for my 1995 R33 GTST? I doubt I’ll be able to ever get it but it’s worth a shot to ask
    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
