WRX Club - Rnd 2 - Phillip Island - March 12

Recommended Posts

Snowy, I thought that was your autosalon run. doesn't matter, i'll squeeze every last drop but on previous assumption it seemed achievable. 260 won't be a problem and will be welcome for top end. When you are sick of the 2530's I'll be in the wings.........:(

Al ultimately the head will have GTR cams as well, just reground to suit the hydraulic lifters but will lack the valve size. Plus the GTR34 turbos are safe at 1.2bar or 17.2 psi. Nice job parking BTW :P. Sorry to hear of it mate.

Ferni I am also running a malpassi FPR which allowed 220 rwkw with the stock injectors at 85-90% with the GTR pump, plus I will be using a Bosch 044 external and swirlpot (for safety on the track). Fuel won't be a problem. Again though, a car with a higher compression ratio will produce more power at the same psi.

No worries Wayne.

At this current stage you will be competing against Ant, heartbrkr and Chrisman (in a TX5) within the club.

Now - if you didnt realise we are all pretty much staying down at PI for the weekend. There are still beds available so you (and if you have a Mrs even) are more than welcome to join us - for either just one night or all weekend if you wish.

:)

Thanks for the offer, I already have accomodation down there. I will fax the entry form off tomorrow. Can you please bring another CAMS entry form for a temporary licence, in case my real one does not arrive by then.

Denham.

The fuel comes from VPW - 541 High Street, Epping - Victoria 3076

The fuel you want is the Sunoco GT Plus 104 (they have a few different types but this is the one you want).

Cost $120 for a 20L drum. One drum will last 2 track days. FYI - this is the stuff Benno uses.

Also Denham - you are in 2WD modifed. You are against Roy, Geoff, Gareth (if he's coming).... and the Ice Supra!

Why is Ant in the std class?

He has a Hi-flow turbo, wolf-3d and a little more stuff

Ant: :)

Geoff, you know alot more than me, but with injectors at 85-90% at 220rwkw, i would think at 250rwkw injectors would be close to max.

Nah mate, upgraded now to toyota 440cc injectors from the std RB25 that I had @220rwkw. I think the standards are 340cc or so. A good size jump anyway and good for 300rwkw so plenty in reserve.

Denham, no pics yet as I'm still fitting parts and stuff together. Have to get the manifolds today (Robbie has been flat out with drags and PAYING customers....) and hope to be on the dyno Weds.

What won't get done at this stage will be the cams, swirlpot and 044. Still should be a good power figure but just running out of time and available cash (and wifes' patience) :P

Roy!! You were supposed to be sleeping Dammit!!! Have you apologised to that poor lady yet that you woke at oh dark hundred Friday morning??? Flowers, a nice gift and dinner and a big big apology or you will go straight to HELL in her regard and you won't get ANY.

Oops. i put down standard class on the application. Oh well, hopefully organisers will put me in associated.

Took my car to mechanic yesterday. Changed oils etec.

Probs:

- rear brakes are worn

- front tyres are close to indicators.

Going to see if i can source some cheap pads; and if anyone wanna save me some cash by helping install them? btw, was there some group buy (blind elk?), or did that come and go.

Not sure what to do with tyres. The rears (36psi) have heaps of tread left (no burnouts) but the front (38-40psi) have worn down twice as fast . Deciding whether i can get away with putting the grip at the front, and running the worn on the rear. Bit of a gamble if marshalls kick up a stink.

Else what tyres to get? 2 or 4? Ive got Falken Azenis which came with my car. Havent got $300+ for each tyre. Will have to dip into savings at any rate. Any recommendations?

I'm in for the 12th as well. Having only just bought the R34, Phillip Island will be a good place to get used to driving it after 8 years in Subarus (or not)...

Yas can add me to your championship if you like. I'm happy to join up and pay.

Currently I am a WRX Club member.

The car is standard other than some timing gears and a tune at Racepace. I may also have a PowerFC in by next Saturday if all goes to plan. I'm also planning on running RE55s.

It's goimg to be a great day, let's all keep our fingers crossed for dry weather.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for how to fit a bonnet restraint to the R34?

Cheers

heartbrkr: I wouldn't go for cheap pads if your going on the track, they will fade really quick. Try some RB74 pads around $150 i think, if your really strapped for cash you may be able to get away with some bendix ultimates, a bit cheaper. As for tyres, are they worn on the inside only? or all around? Hard to say what to do without seeing them... I don't remember ever having the scruitineers actually check my tyre tread, so not sure what the deal is there.

wwwrxxx: will be good to see another 34 GTR out there! Don't try to keep up with snowman tho, he's too fast!

snowman uses bonnet pins, most of us other guys have some steel cable in that plastic wrap under the bonnet with some clips... geoff made mine, roy made a bunch last time.

    • Initially I thought having a pair of Recaro seats would be a big bonus, it turns out these do get a little uncomfortable on long journeys (my fault, not the seat). I had a look through the GSM Performance website at reclining seats and booked an appointment to visit their show room. I got the Recaro Sportster CS for the R34 from here, was very happy with the service received so of course a re-visit was in order. Unfortunately the two Corbeau seats I had chosen aren't on display but they had 4 other options available. Two seats dug into my back, one dug into my legs and the other was perfect. I also found out that Recaro seats use a larger bolt pattern so some adaption was required. Luckily GSM offer some universal adaptors that should solve this problem. I searched the interwebs for price comparisons and Corbeau themselves were the cheapest at £300 cheaper (for the pair). I asked GSM if they could price match, unfortunately they couldn't. I later received an email saying Corbeau would honour them the same discount, but the purchase was already made. I did however order the brackets from GSM, both arrived on the same day. I started with the passenger side seat, knowing this was going to be a little trial and error. There are 3 mounting holes at the front and 2 at the rear on these JURAN Racing seat rails.  With the adaptor brackets mounted, the allen cap bolts started to push into the seat, NOT GOOD!  The rear mounting holes lined up but there were issues at the front. The holes were 1/2 hole out, so the brackets got a tickle with the drill to modify the holes. The supplied bolts weren't going to be long enough and a spacer was needed to stop the adaptor bars from bending. A local fasteners company supplied be with some nylon spacers and longer bolts (M8x30, although these will be replaced with 35mm long shortly) A before and after I pre-drilled the front bracket before making a start on the driver's seat to save some time. And in no time at all that was in the car too. The all black seats have transformed the interior and these are MUCH more comfortable. The only downside with the new Corbeau seats is I sit a little higher, but I'll happily accept that over discomfort. The Youtube video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPyttKPktXA
    • All 3 I guess. The car came with the JASI Aero 4 door Type R Full Kit unpainted so this was one thing at the top of my list to complete then I noticed there were body panels parts for this kit so i picked them up along with some black mesh to fill in the front bumper and front side air vents. car is at a paint and body shop atm completing this work. Next I will be addressing the internal bells and whistles, great summer project I can do with the kids.  full interior removal - ,boys car sound deadening - pads and spray ,boys stereo, sound, lighting - Big 3, GTT or bigger alternator ,kids head lining - dye black add star lighting mod ,daughter. That's it for the next 5-6 months. I have some motor maintenance  work i have to plan out. oil filter relocation, gaskets, mounts. beyond that, mind is starting to turn over if i can use a DET intake plenum, block off turbo ports & pipe in a air intake.
    • roller coaster of a ride. Alarm system was removed & main harness was repaired where possible. still no fix just random successful starts. moved on to the replacing the ignition switch and relay. well all this troubleshooting & repair has been going on, the car is at a paint and body shop being pushed around. Ive been going down there on odd days after work to get it sorted.
