we used to have the "minimum posts to post in the For Sale" thingy happening and it didn't work, can't exactly remember why - but i think one of the reasons was SPAM and crap posts everywhere.

The email address with a ISP might be a good idea..

maybe something when you sign up saying yahoo/hotmail type emails can't post in the classifieds, but can post in the rest of the forums... i dunno..

Is it possible for SAU to set up a bank account where the customer deposits the money for the item(s) into this account, where it remains and is transfered to the seller only when the customer receives the item?

And to also make this a cumpulsery option for all people selling on the forum.

ie- The option MUST be clearly available on all items for sale.

I reckon your onto something there gR33ddy, one of my pet hates is that ppl don't pay anytning for the use of the for sale section, and then they abuse the bejesus out of it with scam spam and dud buys.

I reckon use your idea and let SAU take 10% of every sale, this would fund the site, almost stop scammers, and 100% stop bad deals. I sold a bit on these forums, but I donated [helped my conscience], and joined SAU.

its a good idea, but there would always have to be someone monitoring it,

Potentially it would be a lot of work to keep up to but as you said previously that if it can prevent at least one person from getting ripped off then it is a success, this aswell as implementing a time period before a person can sell something. Maybe SAU needs more mods/staff.

I reckon the people that have already proven themselves as honest, reliable traders will not have the third party request by the customer as much as a new member selling stuff. So the load may not be as much as we think.

So as long as the option is always available and all sellers agree to co-operate with it then it should work.

10% commision for SAU seems a bit too high. 3-5% maybe??

i think its a great idea but way to high maintance.

the mods are people that have lives, work and other committments, they cant be expected to monitor this sort of things also.

theres all the other website that sell parts, and they can have a hard enough time doin this sort of thing. so i think this is aiming a lil high

As I said previously

This method would prevent people from getting ripped off - that is the result that we are looking for.

maybe they do, and i still agree with it being a great idea.

but still a big idea, at that.

havnt really seen many mods giving their opinion in here

Maybe just a simple set of guidelines when purchasing items in the "For Sale" forum.

1. All negotiations should be done via email or PM (This provides a paper trail)

2. Where possible payment should be by COD.

3. Seller must display items (pics) otherwise no post is allowed.

4. Seller must be willing to provide a verifiable residential address, current Drivers Licence details, and where possible a land line phone number (verifiable in current phone book)

5. If not COD then a maximum of 10% deposit. (reduces the risk)

6. Always obtain a tracking number and courier company name. (verify item has been dispatched)

7. Use Western Union as the intermediary.

If you are a seller, keep the customer informed of what is happening to their goods. Good customer service is somewhat lacking in todays society.

Remember "Caveat Emptor" loose translation = Buyer Beware

Cheers

Muz

not really. we have a LOT of mods.

Look, at the end of the day its upto you users to check who your buying from.

There are many means to make sure you get what you pay for.

The mods can only do so much. And remember there is always 2 sides to every story also

Its still not going to prevent scammers like doridori - cant you guys come up with anything better?

I agree with this.

plus people should use the feedback system. appart from that it's:

buyer beware. enough said.

problem is people like doridori have a trader rating of like 3.. which to most would probably mean "that seems ok, I'll trade with him". But obviously there are equally as many that have been ripped by him, and that is where it can be a problem.

Even if there is just one that has a bad experience, that almost makes them a bad trader automatically.

And often a lot of the time, they don't set out to rip everybody else, but there are those traders that just seem to have a suspiciously high problem factor - no matter what the reasons they are the ones that need to be stopped. Many often I would say are simply too stupid or without conscience so some barely even realise they're ripping people off with their actions.

Its still not going to prevent scammers like doridori - cant you guys come up with anything better?

and we have already stated, no measure will EVER stop people like him who are determined.

there is no 100% solution.

only deterrents... and as you can see he is not easily deterred

you can also look at the other people giving him a trader rating. If they all have a trader rating of (0)'s themselves, then it pays to be suspicious. I do that when looking at traders.

You just have to delete people like that when spotted.. They'll soon get sick of the effort and stuffing around to keep creating accounts and make it look like they are somebody else.

People like doridori can hardly string a sentence together, nevermind trying to pas themselves off as somebody respectable.

You guys may not be able to stop all scammers but preventing just some is a huge step forward for the customer/user/member.

Dosent seem like you's are that willing to fix this problem up to me. And its only going to get worse cos you wont do anything to fix it.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
