My 33 came with a Blitz 3inch cat-back exhaust from japan (with cannon).. When idling I rekon it sounds pretty quite/tame, but still very deep.. As you drive harder it gets noticably louder but..

Overall very well balanced cat-back system... Cost about $800 for cat-back or $1500 for full turbo-back system i hear...

I have a very similar sound clip of a blitz exhaust if u want it...

jagr33 (jack) im pretty sure has a twin 2.5" mufflers on his gtr which i think flow just as much as most other 3" or 3.5" systems but are no where near as loud, perhaps you could pm him and ask what model he has?

'quiet' for one person = 'loud' for another

what's my point? get a custom-made exhaust from a reputable exhaust shop and choose exactly how loud you want it

a $2000 brand-name piece of pipe doesn't automatically flow better than a similarly-shaped custom $600 jobbie... you can test a number of muddlers to find one you like if you don't want a cannon one.

but then again, some people just have to have the brand name...

I am yet to own a car (the count is 11 now I think) that has had a brand name exhaust.

All of mine were custom (at least cat back) and are always louder than others I've heard with jap systems.

that's why I asked the question.

hahaha, The liberty RS Turbo I had a few years back.. man that thing had such a deep and loud sound that it was unbearable at about 3200rpm.. it was a little quieter on either side of that rev range.

minimum 4 car alarms would go off in every car park.

the S14 is not that bad, but still loud.

come to think of it, my skyline before wasn't too loud and it was custom..

hmmm.

my exhaust system is a custom 3inch mandrel bent job from turbo back.. its generaly 'quiet' but dont know wat the **** alarm system it was the other day but i started up in an angle park on a side street and set off a car alarm  was rather funny but yer i havent been hassled about my exhaust by cops yet.. but yer its a plain straight thru system with just the rear cannon 4inch tip.. isnt to bad all up cost was around 1k for the whole system.. with split dump pipe all stainless.. all tig welded

I've got a custom aussy job.

It is a 3" from the turbo back, 3" highflow large cat, larger center resonator (this is the trick to a nice flowing quiet exhaust) and finally a large rear straight through muffler that only 'just' fits. The rear of the muffler is painted black and leaving the muffler is a single 3" s/steel tip. It doesn't attract any attention.

Nor does it have a 1kg milo tin sticker attached. hahah :D

The exhaust has a nice note, doesn't drone and cannot be heard when cruising next to it with the window up, with the window down you can only hear a slight growl.

D&T Performance in Adelaide (google) did the exhaust. One dissapointment with it is the lack of quality or care that went in to the dump pipe.

What do you mean by this? Did they damage something? I ask cause I got my catback done at D&T Performance, and was seriously thinking in getting them to do the full exhaust sometime.

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
