Ronin, the G-max is what I was originally after, this is the replacement and rated to 640PS

This is what cracks me up about clutch power recommendations. What happens at 641ps in this example? The clutch turns to jelly? Doubt it. What's the go? Anyone?

Common sense would tell you that it's obviously an 'indication' of the maximum load that the manufacturer will guarentee that the clutch is capable of safely handling. That said, it doesn't mean that the clutch will turn to 'jelly' at anything over 640ps, it just means that the clutch wasn't designed for a load in excess of that figure and that the manufacturer won't guarentee it's capability to handle such a load.

Ok, the verdict is in.

I picked the car up from Grey Imports this afternoon with the new Nismo clutch fitted and what a difference!

A few things that were immediately noticable:

1. No whine/rattle when the clutch is disengaged - you would think it was stock

2. Very light pedal - I cant see any need for upgrading to the larger operating cylinder

I drove the car through the city in peak hour traffic and it was completely effortless. I would go as far as to say it was easier to drive than the 6 finger heavy duty clutch I previously had. The clutch has a nice bite but isnt aggressive on the road at all.

Bottom line, from what I have experienced thus far, I am extremely happy with the Nismo twin plate :(

Common sense tells you that a motor making 340ps can potentially make more torque (the twisting force in your driveline to save you looking it up - and the one affecting your pressure plate's ability to clamp the clutch plate(s)) than one making 640ps. Why clutches are measured based on a power figure remains a mystery to me.

but doesnt torque = horsepower X rpm / 5250 ??

Nick: thats what my twin plate felt like for the first couple of months.. You said it doesn't rattle or whine - did your old clutch? was it just a HD single?

My car goes next late next week for a whole bunch of things including a Nismo Gmax spec II. I got the Nismo operating cylinder and braided clutch line too so I am keen to see how is goes. I have heard the new coppermix is very nice though, and so far looks like you are confirming it Nick. Nice work.

I didnt get a clutch made by him (NA car - no real need) BUT I did get him to check out a new clutch that was going to be fitted.

He is very cluey with clutches and seems thinks the Jap twin plate/triple plates are all overrated. He builds his own clutches himself and tests it all.

Top guy.

I will be going to him for my next clutch.

Another place from my experience that are good with clutches are "Nicks Performance Clutches" in brisbane.... i had a dog of a clutch (HKS Triple Solid Centre) and he converted it into a twin plate carbotic and machined the flywheel and other bits, whatever you call them, for $600 total. Was heaps better to use afterwards, possibly the easiest clutch i have ever used. Handled the power allright too as long as i had the car it never slipped.

Also avoid OS Giken twin plates, they are not as easy to use in traffic as everyone makes out, they aren't too bad having said that but there are easier clutches to use that will handle the same amount of power and make the drive that mcuh more enjoyable.

All this is from experience, hope its helpfull to someone out there.

Interesting, interesting. Need to replace my clutch and I'm leaning towards a Jim Berry "Stage 1" based on all the very positive feedback from SAU owner's with high HP (not that I am running high HP :rofl:).

Might have to price one of these up too (Nick: did you find anywhere special to get a price or just the usual Nengun/Greenline/etc)?

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..   
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.  
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them 
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
