I have just bought new 19" rims and they came with Kuhmo Ecsta Supra tyres. They are 275/30's and I had more wheelspin than what I did with 245's... I really don't think these tyres are very good at all. Haven't driven them on the road, only on the strip but serious traction issues. Gave me 3 sec 60ft times!!!!

What's the grippiest tyre in 275/30/R19s?

I've got 265/30/19 Falken FK 452 on my R32 gtst and they seem to hook up quite well for an all round street tyre. About $380 a tyre, which is a pretty good price for the performance they give.

I am using Federal 595 atm. 235 at the front and 255 at the back...

And to be honest, i recon they are useless.

They spin in the dry 1st and 2nd...

and dont even talk about the wet!!

And mine are just 6 months old! looks like im stuck with these for awhile... but i wont be using them again.

18's?

When my 595's hit approx half wear they were extremely slippery in third. The slightest bump or slight bend and you'd find the arse end swaying around at 130km/h+ :S

In comparison the Toyo Proxes4 provide 4x the amount of grip. The car went from roll on on in third gear wheel spin at 80km/h to still spinning in second but hooking up quite well and not a hint of wheel spin in third.

Have you put any thought into your suspension?

No offence intended at all, but I have been using 595's for about 2 years now and my R32 GTST has 240rwkw and over 500nm of torque and I find the 595's to be excellent for traction in the dry and quite predictable in the wet.

I have a set of TEIN coilovers and camber and castor have been set up for track use though so I am getting the best out of the tyres.

I have used many different brands aswell so Im not being a hypocrite.

If your shocks arent in the best condition or you have worn out bushes it can seriously affect the way your car grips under power.

Just something to think about :)

are we talking RS or SS?

I've found that the RS own all on a wet track in my car. A touch tentative under brakes but ultimately very predictable with pretty good grip. They don't compare to a proper semi in the dry though. 2-3 seconds off the pace.

I got super steel (SS) maybe you guys got (RS).. which might be better? Im running HKS Hipermax D(rift) coilovers. Not too common, i know... heres a link showing their specs..

What you guys think?

Interesting that you guys get postive feedback on then 595's...

I use the 595 (ss) on the street and 595RS for track (sometimes street aswell) and the RS are very grippy but thats not to say that the regular 595's arent.

HKS Hypermax D? - Are they really stiff?

If they are to stiff then you wont get very good traction under power or cornering because the car will just want to oversteer all the time.

Im no suspension expert but Im pretty sure that you need a medium - soft rear suspension set up to get the best traction under acceleration.

Maybe ask around and see if you can dig up some opinions on the best suspension set up... Im pretty sure that Sydneykid knows his stuff when it comes to suspension.

I noticed everyone seems to rave on about Federal tyres but they do nothing for me. They advertise as a competitive tyre but my dad had them on his Monaro, took it to the track and the tyres literally shredded around the corners. I dont mean wore really quickly either they literally had deep rips throughout. He took them back to Jaxx tyres where he bought them from, they got a federal representative to come out and replaced all his tyres for him less the cost of tyre percentage already worn

Good to see someone giving the Federals a run on the track. Just a few questions:

Did your dad use the 595 street tyres on the track or did he go for the 595RS or RS-R semi slick track tyres? Street tyres arent made to withstand the extreme temperatures and stresses of track racing, yes some are better than others but a street tyre will never perform on the track as well as a track tyre, you also have to factor in the price tag from brand to brand aswell.

If your dad used a street tyre then perhaps the better choice for track racing would have been a tyre made to be used on the track?

Also you dont say how they handled or whether he got great times or even how responsive they were. Not many serious racers rate tyres for how they wear, just the performance.

Given the circumstances though what great service you got from Federal - You took tyres around the track "racing" fang the crap out of them and then they agree to replace the tyres...

Try doing that to Holden if the gear box failed given the same situation, what would they say?

At any rate good to see you have the confidence to give them another run.

hey guys, been quoted for four fulda exelero (17/255/Y) tyres at $240 a corner. Are they good tyres for a 32 GTR?

The guy made em sound like they were amazing but i've never heard of em, and can't seem to find much info on the net.

Cheers!

got quoted $300 per tyre fitted and balanced for 235/45/17 federal 595RS at payless tyres @ chatswood today.

probably get a full set next week

Nice, send me a PM when you get them and I'll send you out a 595RS promo pack. :bunny:

Chris, the RT615's ive used worked best about 34 when hot on the GTR

Personally I rathered the old Falkens but the 615 is obviously there current flagship tire.

Try the Khumo V700 as well. will be suprised how average the 615 is after trying a few different brands

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
