Depends how serious you are. If you just want soemthing small and reliable then id go for a GCG Hi-Flow, or a HKS 2530/2510. For the price of the 2nd hand HKS stuff you can get a new GCG turbo, so thats what i would be leaning towards.

If you want a bit more grunt and have the funds, then id say grab a HKS 2835 kit, with external wastegate and manifold. I am running what is basically the Trust equivelant and i am stoked with 235rwkws. I dont know how much it has left in it, id say another 25-30rwkws... but for now im happy with that power, and it seems to be doing it relaibly and comfortably.

Id say go the HKS over the TD06 because its ball bearing and its water cooled. The difference it makes in the real world you will never know. But some of the RB25 boys seem to have fun with the 2835, and i cant wait for an RB20 folk to give one a try.

Dont worry about being too laggy, im 3rd and 4th gear i have 18psi before 4,000rpm...lol, which is more responsive then a std turbo RB26:) It doesnt have the offboost torque that the RB26 has, but my car is a bit lighter with shorther gearing so doenst seem too bad.

So dont be afraid to bolt on a good size turbo to the side of the RB20, just be ready to reach into the pockets for injectors, ECU and clutch:)

That said if you just want a solid 200rwkws and your engine and more imortantly gearbox will last forever with the Hi-Flow:)

Listen to Roy, he knows what hes on about.

And if you dont want to listen to Roy and annoy him at the same time. Put a stock RB20 turbo back on, and save for an RB30 :(

cef11e and CC I think that might be the go, are these rb25turbz commonly for sale round these here parts (yehaw!)?

I am not interested in a super power up but I don't want Mr. standard wrx to toast me again :/

What should I budget for if I was to do a change over? are there subsequent parts needed during the changeover of turbos or is it a bolt in replacement?

Thanks guys

oh and one last thing, I imaging it's worth doing the dump pipe from turbz while it is off right?

I think for the money it would be hard to go past the RB25 hi flowed. If money is no option then go HKS. I got 2535 and its sweet a little laggy but unbeatable once you get the boost up. But 200kw at the wheels should be acheivable with the hi flowed rb25.

you can pick up a cheap HKS used item from lots of places as well.

Dont forget on top of that you will need a retune $$$$ and a front mount for good measure and if not already done then exhaust from the turbo, to make the most of it.

Have you put bags in it yet ???

I am not interested in a super power up but I don't want Mr. standard wrx to toast me again

Then don't get air bags and lose your 400kg of unsprung weight :)

Infact... time for those J-style lightweight battle rims O_o

Then don't get air bags and lose your 400kg of unsprung weight :P

Infact... time for those J-style lightweight battle rims O_o

what do you mean by unsprung weight?

and yes those wheels are friggen heavy. if i put struts in I will keep them, if i get a new turbs and start on the engine I'll get lightweights... I like these ones:

envy-mk2-charcoal.jpg

weighing up options... dammit i need 10k then i'd be able to do it all :(

DAMNNNnnnnnnnnn shieeeeeet those are hot rims.

Need more dish but yeah they're noice.

Then you'd need 5 stud and bigger brakes to show off.

Unsprung weight = everything in your drivetrain (things your engine has to spin or turn etc)

they are like the speedy wheels ,.......oh wait they are .....yea they are nice ...

i have pretty much decided to go 5 stud aswell just cause i want some sexy wheels and they are bastard to get in 4 stud...........and bigger brakes at the same time

so can anyone tell me how much I should expect to pay for a hi flow t03, and it might help if I know the price of a standard T03...

cheers guys

(yes i did a search but didn't get much everyone wanted offers by PM so I didn't really find any prices)

Is it a long process to fit a new turbo in terms of mechanics hours?

It depends on what turbo you are using from what i hear the rb25 is a bolt and go type thing, if you go for a larger turbo, the injectors, ECU, and clutch might need to be changed. And, if a fitting kit is not available, you might have to custom fabricate pipes and manifold, so it can get very pricey. Then ya looking at looking at a day on the rolling road to set everything up. Such a pain in the ass, BUT worth every loving second LOL :burnout:

Kursed if you get an rb25 hiflowed stage 1 from GCG you will get 205 give or take rwkw.

things you will need for the conversion.

1, new oil return gasket. about $5

2, new copper washers that go around the banjo bolts X 4 about $5

3, should replace the turbo to exhaust manifold gasket, about $20

4, turbo to dump gasket, about $20

Thats it! all your existing pipework will fit, your oil and water lines will fit. and it will look COMPLETLY STANDARD! you wont even be able to tell if its a rb20 or rb25 snail.

the turb its self should be around $1500 if you get your mechanic ferind to buy it at trade price.

you really should get a bigger intercooler. talk to MYS013. and copy his intercooler pipes exactly. should cost prob $150?

buy a hybrid copy from here for $200

buy hose clamps and silicon joiner hose $200 (suprisingly expensive)

install bigger fuel pump $150?

get toshi ro remap your ECU $200

Dyno tune time $100

All up you will be looking at $2500 ish.

standard injectors will cope with about 210rwkw as will the air flow meter. bit that is pushing it.

anything over that and you start to spend too much on the ole RB20.

Cams, injectors, z32 air flow meter, power FC.

all these things cost an extra $2700 and you will only get an extra 50kw for the money.

so if you were to save all that cash (approx 5200) plus selling your rb20 for $1000

you got enough for a RB30det conversion nd close to 300RWKW if you follow sidneykids directions.

can you say FAST PIMPMOBILE!!!

aah i am getting carried away...

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
