Yeh 4 seconds is a huge leap from the time i have posted...but looking at the incar footage, i think i can go 3 seconds quicker within 4 to 5 laps. So will be a test of me improving as a driver which is what its all about. I have to keep reminding myself that the whole exercise for me and my budget is for the driver to go quicker, not for me to build a quicker car.

...i had a big slide between the two final turns that meant i was down on revs and in 2nd coming onto the straight (LOL it was my 2nd full speed lap after all). Then i was braking pretty early after my lap 1 debacle at the end of the straight....had an old set of tyres (12 months old) with a flat spot...was still trying to get the car thru turns 3,4 and 4 smoothly with good corner speed. And the rotors needed machining as i was getting pad knock off.

And ppl will be thinking these are excuses, they arent. ....they are just things in the back of my mind that im thinking about when i consider how much time/performance may be left in the car...

Ill be the first to say when i dont think it is possible. I know a sub 1:40 will not be possible at Winton. I know a sub 1:53 will be difficult at PI. But at the moment until i get a good crack at Sandown im still inclined to believe a mid 1:26 to high 1:25 is possible.

As long as i go quicker then the 1:30 i did last time then ill be happy. After the wet and wild Eastern Creek and wet Sandown, odds are i wont even have a dry track anyway, so forget lap times, im just going to go have another session of driving the wheels off the thing until i hit a wall:)

:edit: i think i had actually had the rotors machined for this day?!?! so braking was a matter of me being too optimistic with braking points:(

You can add me to that list Andrew. I should be faxing in my entry form tonight when I fly back from Sydney.

See you girls on the track :)

:P

Guys,

If you have sent your entry in you may want to check the current list. I've sent mine in but noticed my name isn't on there so I've made enquiries.

Just sent off my application today, i havent done a track event before so i just signed up for driver training - hopefully i get accepted.

Anyway if you see me there somewhere come and say hi and give me some pointers!

I have a white nissan silvia with a 180sx front (onevia)...

Jono.

Before you get someone to ride shotgun i always think its best to doa few laps yourself, that way you at least get a feel for the track before getting pointers...this way your not trying to take in too much all at once and the tidbits of advice may sink in better.

jbonevia: I'd agree with Roy, do the first session by yourself, or if you do take a passenger, dont have them talk to you unless you ask questions... you'll be fine, its always nerve racking for everyone the first time out.. I still get nervous after 4 track days!

Rowdy - nope. I can't take money for CAMS - they have nothing to do with us as a club. If you haven't paid yet your best bet is to run to the CAMS head office and they can do it on the spot there and give you the license. Either that or ring them and tell them you need it by June 12 and they will rush it through.

Well I just received an email from the WRX Club guys asking me if I knew of a Ben Derks that has entered for Sandown and put down an estimated lap time of 1.18! They didnt believe it so they thought they'd ask me if I knew who he was and what time they could really expect! LOL

Anyone who hasn't seen this car run - it's worth coming down to watch just to see it.

    • The alloy coolant reservoir has a sight glass, so as long as I can see coolant in the sight glass it's GTG, as for PS, it isn't anything catastrophic if it gets low, and as it hasn't lost a drop since I have owned the car I cannot see it being an issue, even after putting the "big block" 2.5 in....LOL The only time it gets slightly messy is at oil changes, as the oil filter sits above the frame, and I need to use a plastic bottle with its bottom cut off to catch the flow when loosening the filter
    • Good on you for taking on the job, but it is a big one. Even if you have bolt on manifold and turbo, you will need: Post throttle pressure source to boost controller to wastegate (and FPR, and ECU/MAP sensor) Pre throttle pressure source to top of BOV(s) Oil feed - you can take that from the standard port in the middle of the block Oil return to block under the turbo - this is much trickier than it seems to route a decent/wide pipe past the manifold. You really can't use rubber hose because it is way too hot there, and also the oil out of the turbo core is a bit frothy so it needs to have a decent diameter Water feed - you can take that from the standard port in the rear of the block. Water return - mine runs to a T into the heater box return, just make sure you don't create a high point making bleeding hard. All of those lines should use 200 series style teflon braided hose with heat shielding because everything needs to be routed past the manifold. Also a turbo beanie is a really good idea to minimise the chance of the car catching fire (under bonnet lining in particular) You also need to decide a cam cover breathing solution as well, will you vent externally via a catch can (probably illegal) or return to the intake (plumbing required and can oil up everything over time) Keep in mind the intake and exhaust piping in the engine bay will be custom so you either need to be able to fab ally and steel or have someone you can get a car that isn't running to. Get the wideband fitting welded into the dump pipe at the same time. Also, just my opinion, a screamer pipe attracts attention and doesn't add power, I'd plumb it back if you want to be allowed to keep the car on the road. BTW do you know anything about how healthy the motor is, and what power you are targeting? Doubling or tripling the factory power on an unknown motor is a little risky. Also fuel system will need some attention (pumps, high current hanger, direct power and earth feed, injectors etc)
