Not trying to state the bleeding obvious but the CES ones in the photo are the 'short' ie HKS style whereas the competition style referred to by Sneaker has the better design ie longer wastegate pipe as per the Trust ones. Trevor at CES can quote rwkw improvement for the short ones but not for the long ones so it's not possible to know if the extra cost for the long ones is worth it. That makes it even more more of a hard decision if you've already got engine pipes like me.

CES stuff is great - I have a full system on my RS Liberty - but pricey compared to the Trust kit. I think they Trust ones are the go, all things considered, as you get the long wastegate pipe without the cost of the CES ones. There are subtle differences such as the expansion chamber radius on the CES ones that make them very nice but I think this is a moot point on a road car when the system in nearly double the cost after HPC coating.

those trust ones imo represent better value than the CES ones posted above. those CES ones are just HKS copies with a set of front pipes. @ $820+$500 that is a lot of cash for direct replacement dumps and fronts and you have to ask yourself if i am replaceing both at the same time why am i constraining myselft to 'bolt-on' factory size dumps?? the trust ones are a much better looking design. note: CES do make trust style ones too but again they are very expensive for what the are, esepcially considering they are made of mild steel...

Yeah CES is not cheap. I live in Brizzie and liked the idea of taking the car to him and fitting the system, I have no access to a hoist for a long period and really couldn't be farked fitting the dumps, front pipe, 3 1/2 system to a GTR lying on the ground,

CES is a exhaust shop and if somthing is wrong you take it straight back to him! Its his name on the WHOLE system!! = GREAT WORK!!

p.s. single 3 1/2 cannon muffler (no resinator) and i have a slip of paper in glove box, if cops pull me for excessive noise i can say it is 100% legal with his (ces) testing epuipment.

itbmils: wuss:  as if pay a shop to install dumps.  Get the spanner out son :P  As for "do it once, do it right", the problem is I have a noticable leak that needs fixing soon.  It won't be a good 6+ months till I get around to the Trust/Greddy units so waiting is not the preferred option.

I do still have spanners - but can't for the life of my remember where I put them ;)

I went for the CES "Competition" pipes because of the quality of the product and that they were Australian made - I could actually talk to Trevor about what I wanted from the car and his product. The fact that they had done the improvement tests and could give a figure of the increase in performance, helped as well. They may not be as "neat looking" as the Trust/HKS ones but they work better in my opinion. And they are definitily not just copies.

I think it is well worth spending the extra for the local product - and I am not speculating, I have actually had them fitted.

I have the trust/greddy split dumps and pipes mated to GT-SS turbos....all fitted up and finished last week, and will be off for a tune on monday with a whole range of crapla being fitted too.... shall be interesting :(

for my money the trust ones are good value at $1100 I looked at all the options, and they came out ahead....

I spoke to Trevor only a few weeks ago and he said that he had no performance figures for the comp style, only the short style so my dilemma is not the quality - his products are great - but that I couldn't get data on the comp style to see if they were worth the extra cost over the shorter type.

Can you please tell me what advice he gave you re the improvement tests you mentioned?

Sure, I'd love to buy local by I completely agree with mmmgtir: the CES pipes (be they the 'HKS-style' ones or the competition pipes) do not represent good value. Given that are just as pricey -- if not more when you consider they are mild steel -- than the Japanese parts, the only advantage is they are local if you're in Queensland and not having to wait for something to arrive from overseas.

Perhaps if it was a choice between some backyard overseas operation and the CES's it would swing in their favour regardless of the price differential, but Trust is a no backyard operator.

If anyone has delt with the HKS Twin Extention kit (BNR32,BCNR33, BNR34 Part No 1418-RN005) then you will know how good the qualitly is. Hard Core steel built to withstand the harshest punishments from those HKS Turbos. Unlike the HKS Extention kit which are two small pipes that bolts onto the turbos then they are attached to the frontpipe which is made from a thinner metal, these Greedy Extentions pipes start where the HKS pipes finish and continue all the way to the cat still using the high density steel as HKS does. Trust Has tested these Extention pipes to handle over 700PS.

No. They completely replace the dump and front pipes: one end bolts on to the back of the turbo, the other to the cat/exhaust. Hence why the seperation of wastegate gasses in longer with the Trusts

hope for about 450hp - 500 hp...

Ok I have now priced up the 3...what seems to be main competitors here:

Greddy / Trust Dump & Front pipes: $1112 Delivered

CES Dump and Front pipe: $1320 (Delivered ?)

I think you mean Trust/Greddy not HKS: they are a different design to the HKS's, featuring an intergrated dump/front setup with longer wastegas gas pipes.

You might also want to try Advan Racing in Silverwater (NSW): apparently they have decent price on Trust/Greddy gear.

Also, which CES setup is that: the HKS-style dumps and front, or the 'competition' pipes?

He basically said that the competition ones would be ideal for "competition" use. They would be overkill on a road car running standard turbos etc... He did say that these would cater for any future modifications to the car (larger turbos, much higher boost, etc...) I know that this part of the system on the car will never pose a restriction no matter what sort of upgrades I intend to do in the future - a main reason why I went all out, knowing I would never have to touch it again.

All I can say is that without changing anything else on the engine, the car has been transformed. I am still getting use to how differently it drives. This product must be good as although I have not tested it on the dyno I can feel a definite difference almost right through the rev range. I don't hear many other people rave about the extra power or grunt they get from there car just by changing their dump and front pipes - in my case, I am super happy! :)

I will soon know when I get it on the dyno for a retune and boost upgrade. I'm sure the area under the curve is going to be fat!

Getting back to the original point of this thread, I have decided to grab one of the Blitz pipes: they are 2 x 70 -> 80 pipes in stainless steel.

New question: I am guessing the heatshield from the stock pipes is not going to fit. Do people bother shielding their pipes -- either with a solid shield or wrap -- or just leave them as is?

    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all).     • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
