Cam Gear & Dyno Tuning Results @ Croydon Racing Development

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

These chinese whispers are true...

I was always expecting that I will need to attend to the 'weak point' of the car but no sooner than 6 months (I was hoping this anyway)

Cause? could be a no. of things:

- bad batch of fuel

- overheating due to lack of capacity of standard radiator

- blocked injector

etc....

I was quite lucky to catch this out in its infancy, the compression dropped in cylinder 6 down to 79, othe 5 cylinders were reading a consistant 140+.

As the engine is undergoing a total recondition with forged pistons, billet con rods, honing of cylinder bores, crank balance etc...my mechanic will be testing the other items for malfunction.

I can't wait to have it run-in once again :(

Marko.

Ouch...was it pinging?

I have been advised ringland damage.

It was breathing extremely heavy via the catch can.

I am more than happy to build the bottom end that way I can rest easy & not worry about it when i blast it!

What is the general consensus on these options considering the power I am running:

- standard rods with arp bolts

- forged rods

- billet rods

i guess if i do want to run race fuel i will need aftermarket rods, if i keep it on the street though with over 350awkw standard will be ok, thoughts???

We run fully prepped stock rods in our car i.e. cryo treated, shot peened, closed and honed , ARP bolts etc. Rev the car to 9 grand and the engine has not missed a beat in 18 months. But.......if i had my time over and could see the sort of development stage the car is at now i would go aftermarket....no longer just a road car....but back then it was. Whats your crystal ball telling you?

Hi Paul & Stace,

for the moment my car will be street driven with the vision of 'maybe' running it on race fuel (only once or twice) just to see what it is capable of...other than that it will be guzzling pump fuel!

  • 2 weeks later...

dart automotive is rebuilding it for me.

nick, dart has sourced for me arp rod bolts

car will be ready this fri

Marko, can I ask where you're getting the motor rebuilt?

  • 3 weeks later...
Marko, thanks for that, I will give Jim a call about them

Nick,

Have u dropped ur car off with dart as yet?

I now have 300km on the clock - another 1200km before I can boost it again for REAL power :)

good to hear she's back on the road Marko....what rods did ya end up using?

G'day Marko :)

good to hear it is all back in 1 peice, for interest sake I did a power run at DART yesterday....

I have an overlay of the torque curves too :)

and to all reading, I was on 19 psi and I think marko was on 13 psi.... so peak isnt really a factor but I made 585NM

interesting to see where the RS Vs SS come on etc.. ;)

hope to see you soon, before I split to Adelaide...

Im the green line....

thats a great result, mine on that run was around 12.8psi

when i was running 23psi it was just short of 800nm of torque - this running in period really sucks...

can't wait to see what it makes at DART when you have the 23 psi again!!!!

that dyno room is the business!!!

for sure - that setup is state of the art!

    • This car has run before on this z32 ecu can get the part number for you, I have tried with no AFM it didn’t change anything, I compression tested today 140-150 across all 6 cylinders, also set fuel pressure to 43psi. The only weird thing was cylinder 1 plug was black and fouled other 5 cylinders were just wet with fuel. Spun cas by hand and confirmed injectors are clicking
    • Since you came here to ask for help, have you thought about answering our questions, that might help us lead you to why it was skipping, or have you given up on getting advice?
    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
