Finally got the Tomei 260 duration with 9.15mm lift (IN/EX) Poncams installed and tuned yesterday.... I must say that these were are worthy upgrade, not only did it make more power from Idle to rev limit, but also brought the power on earlier!!!

Mods include common upgrades (PFC, 720cc inj, Nismo AFM, full exhaust no cat standard dumps ;) , 044 pump, Trust T517Z8cm2 turbos etc...)

Power before cams: 335rwkws (20psi)

Power after cams: 365 rwkws (20psi)

Very happy with the result, was expecting around 15rwkws increase so to get an extra 30rwkws was music to my ears!!!!

Trying to dig up the old dyno sheet (335rwkws), but here's the new one for now..

Now to really impress all you guys I got Ben (Racepace) with a lot of arm twisting to do a run in 'shoot out' mode... With my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) shootout mode has a different inertia setting (100 compared to 0) and also adjusts the air and intake temps....

Here's the result:

WOW!!! Where did the extra 31rwkws come from???? Reason for this graph to try to point out to Stacey (two.06l) what the difference between 'shootout' and 'non-shootout' figures are...

And finally for pnblight and all the boys out west:

Dyno figures to me are more of a tuning tool, not to show how big your wanger is as each dyno is different to others. As long as you keep using the same dyno to monitor gains/losses through ugrades, and more importantly to make sure ur engine survives!!!!

P.S No harm inteneded in any way, shape or form to anybody mentioned in this thread.....

nice one mate. from the third graph, i must say your wang is at least 16inches on the slack... hmmm.

seriously though, that is a nice looking curve. was there any tuning needed with the new cams? (i'm guessing yes). if you know, what power did they make when first installed (ie no tuning changes), also was there any fiddling with cam gears to change the power delivery or were they pretty spot on at 0 and 0?

enjoy ;)

Beer Baron, just with the cam install (no tuning) I think the power went to 348rwkws, will have to confirm with Ben....

I know he definetly tweaked with the cam settings and tuned to suit to get the 365rwkws...

Not sure with cam gear settings either, but he definetly played around with them....

G'day Jack!

I have also recently had a set of these cams fitted with, like you the assoc. goodies to go along with it, and will post full results shortly...(need a stronger clutch before going to 1.4 BAR)

I would like to hear back from you (as would others) as to the settings used by Ben for the cams... I currently have 0 0 set but I am running HKS GT-SS turbos, so there may be a difference there....

BTW what are the TRUST turbos rated at?

cheers!

Wow, thats some serious power, now to put in your sig '400kw@wheels' just to make sure people know your wang is big. j/k

Good to see real word differences between normal mode and shootout mode on bens dyno.

williamsf1 - I'm not too sure with cam settings, but I'll find out and report back... These turbos are rated at 320hp each....

R32-GTS - boost is set at 20psi

ferni - just wanted to 'enlighten' people to the differences in dyno graphs getting around the forums.... I'll have to take u for a burl on the next track day!!!

Nice one Jack. Dyno graphs ain't dyno graphs as they say.

May be time to throw in a PFC and injectors and get a little extra myself, Benno alluded to a bit of a lumpy idle at Sandown (and it seems that way) but no idea what's in there as far as cams go. Could have used some more oomph yesterday.

For sure, its good to see side by side shootout vs normal dyno sheet... Would of been good to get Ben to also do another run with the IT temp sensor stuck inside the pod filter at 50deg or something stupid ;)

Looking forward to the ride... hopefully the cooler pipes stay on this time - did you get them fixed up? ;)

super impressed with the result for 320hp turbos!!! my GTSS are supposedly similar in output, so interesting times ahead!!!

I take it stock 80k odd engine also?

can't wait to hear about cam timing.... it is certainly opening up a can of worms up this way!

Jagr33 very nice

I copied the shit that it can't have done that but you have prove it that a nice combo well tuned, will make the numbers and the only different i see is that i got garrets and jagr33 is running trust turbos. Good shit and enjoy as i have done hehe. Whats 2.1 rwhp between friends you must be loving buying the tomie poncams cams YES?HEHEHE

I put a set of PONCAMS into my 180 and got similar results.. Now with the GTR I am considering going for even more lift than the PONCAM can offer, in terms of percentage increase I want to go with the PROCAM 260 deg 10.8mm lift, keep my boost at 1.2 bar and try and get some more power in the mid range and hopefully drop my max torque from the current 6000rpm that it is now.. This is really good to see the PONCAM increase so that I can more understand what to expect from the PROCAMs.. I will be running desktop dyno simulations soon, I did some for the SR20 and the results were very similar, so I am hoping that I can get good results with the RB26 model that I am working on..

I wonder if 10.8mm is too much lift??

PS. Your schwartz is also long like your wang.

rob 82 - sorry no graph of power vs torque

ferni - yeah cooler pipe sorted, especially after about 20 runs on the dyno!!!!

purple32 - cheers mate, will have to organise a cruise soon....

williamsf1 - engine has forges pistons and metal headgasket, about 2,000k's old... intersted to see how you go with your setup, keep us posted!!!

Morgs - contemplating on taking it out to see what time she pulls, although my car is a dedicated track/circuit car, and also don't want to munch the gearbox.. I know, excuses, excuses!!!!!

pnblight - thanx mate, thought I'd chuck in the last graph for you westies to understand and compare....

Yorik - I know of a local car running exact same setup as me but with 10.8mm lift 260 Procams, not sure on power output, but these cams obviously need modification/machining of the head to accomodate...

Be interesting to see your results....

No machining necessary, change the springs to Tomei Type A, change lifters to Solid type and reshim accordingly. Which I am more than happy to do as I am lifting the head to change to a stainless gasket anyway.,. Also putting in the Oil restrictor at the same time amongst other things.

That car that you know of, it would be good to know what sort of power range it has, not so much power output, but the usable range, maybe even compared to yours.. I won;t be doing this to my car for a while, but you can be sure there will be full details..

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
