Well we are fixing a lot of stuff up on my car and i got a highflow turbo, and on the slightest accelation it flutters and on revving, and when not on boost it flutters. Just wondering how we can stop it fluttering so much. any help would be great

Thanks

do you have a pod? And what about the stock plumback BOV? Is that connected? And finally do you have an aftermarket BOV? if you do have an aftermarket BOV try loosening it, mabye the spring is too tight thats why you get flutter.

yep got a pod, no stock bov has aftermarket one, and no matter where it is adjusted it still flutters loosen it off or fully tight still does.

Aftermarket BOV's have a higher spring rate than factory bov's. So where the factory bov will open up when releasing light throttle, the aftermarket one does not. Please correct me if i'm wrong. when there is no bov this causes a build-up of pressure in the intake piping, slowing the compressor wheel - and hence the flutter. I think the same principle applies to aftermarket BOV's which don't open under light load, but obviously you don't have as much of a pressure build up as you would jumping off the gas from WOT.

There are a few war-threads where everyone has thrown their 2c in about BOVs which might be worth a read such as this.

:P

sorry i ment not when accelerating

Basically i'm saying it's not uncommon for car with aftermarket bovs to make the fluttering sound when backing off from light throttle. This is different when it comes to the HKS SSQ bov's and the like. when driving with a heavier right foot, the fluttering noise is by design and made by the BOV (and not the turbine).

i've got the same problem at the moment! however, only when i floored in 4th/5th gear from say 2000rpm and it flutter at about 3000rpm. 1st/2nd/3rd gear is fine as it will rev to 7000rpm! i'm thinking it might be the turbo surging. btw it's a GCG stage 1 high flow. anyone experience this before? any help would be appreciated!! :P

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM CRUISING VERY LIGHT THROTTLE VERY NOTICEABLE ON THE FREEWAY IT JUST KEEPS FLUTTERING. I HAVE A GCG HIGH FLOWED TURBO POD FILTER AND AFTER MARKET BOV. IM GOING TO TRY A STANDARD BOV. LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE DOES FIX THEIRS

Just put on a s/h hi-flow turbo, i believe it may be a GCG unit as it has the sierra-sierra turbine combination and is also b/b core. Whereas ATP replace the b/b core with a bush unit.

If i plant the foot in any gear the turbo spools nicely and puts down the power. If i cruise easily, at 0.5bar the turbo will flutter while i am still accelerating. Boost flutters back and forth between about 0.4bar and 1.2bar, till i floor it or change gear. The previous owner swears he had no such issue with the turbo. And i know my mechanic played arround with the integral gate, while on the dyno.

I have come up with a few possiblities that still need to be tested.

1/ Integral wastegate is not working 100%

2/ The intake pipe may be partly collasping under light loads (harmonics) thus effecting intake air.

3/ Also want to temporarily remove new Turbosmart bov, just to eliminate it as a fault.

Any other suggestions.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
