Waz, you shouldnt be talking about beating a stock VT, thats a given. Try beat a Gen3, then that will give you trouble ;)

gen3 is an engine type, so a stock V8 VT does have a gen3 under its bonnet...

not trouble, well not the ones i have 'seen'

maybe its just that the average VT driver is a bit older and not that great with the manual shifter. after all mine's an auto and easier to launch and drive consistently

This thread is really a greed over car choice, you want to get a fast car do drag your mate. Does it really matter if you can beat your mate in a car? Maybe injuring yourself and him?

If you buy a car, especially at a young age (your first car) make sure that its not for stupidity and only for daily purpose. (I'd say get a supra, i think the power shows more towards the top speed rather then take off, so while still being a fast car not a quick takeoff that will kill you. RZ n/a for the win!) Goodluck ;)

did i say it would be standard? have you ever seen a completely standard import? my response assumed it would have an exhaust of some sort

Every car that comes in under SEVS has to be made "standard". So all R33s coming into the country now are standard.

i challenge you to find a "standar" R33 gts-t anyways.... one that has not been modified to any extent at all, that is completely and exactly the way it came from the factory...... i doubt u'd be able to do it.

mine is 95% standard, only thing changed is cat back 3" exhaust. That is it - otherwise completely stock standard. No boost changes, nothing.. no airpod..

I think you should go and test drive all the cars, work out which one you like the most.. don't buy something "just cos it goes 0.3 seconds faster".. buy it cost you like it, it's fast, it's got what you want, it's comfy.. you can always modify it later easily catching whatever other car you might have bought.

personally, I wouldn't get a supra - because for $20,000 (which an N/A '94 model is going to cost you) you can get a '96/'97 SII r33 or even a '89 R32 gtr..

that and supra's have to have the CRAPPEST boot ever made - also ppl before flaming me, I was looking at getting one of these, still think they are better looking cars.. but I can't beat my '98 gts-t.. just love it..

LOL...I know its a Skyline website but it still amuses me how people will overate standard Skylines sometimes, a standard auto GENIII VT would cream a standard auto R33 GTsT

My TJ 3.5 Auto Magna would cream a Standard R33 auto GTsT :)

Fair point but people have also underated them like yourself the skyline VT gen3 standard and GTST standard would be very close. 220kw vs 187 and the skyline has a hell of a lot less weight look up the manufactures 0-100km and 0-400m times they are very close. As for your magna auto beating an auto r33 gtst you are dreeming. I doubt you would even beat an auto GTS especialy if it had the rb25de.

For those wanting to know about completely stock GTS-Ts..I have one. No exaust, No after market filter. It did a 14.6 0-400m on a Gtech. It also has the active diff if that makes a difference? I dont know as I have never driven any other skyline. Won't be stock long though as I just bought an exaust and intercooler :uh-huh:

mine is 95% standard, only thing changed is cat back 3" exhaust. That is it - otherwise completely stock standard. No boost changes, nothing.. no airpod..

so its not stock standard then...

last time i checked, an exhaust was a modification

My gf has a R33 GTS (non turbo) 2.5litre

My old car was a VR Calais 3.8litre v6... i had exaust/air filter etc... she has exaust air filter..

My calais was a tiny bit quicker than hers from when we both gunned it, but it was pretty close , and my calais was pretty quick compared to other v6 commodores around, quicker than my parents stock VT v6 at the time.... So it would be pretty close.

Hey are you going to get the gts with the 2.5 or 2.0

2.0 - 104 kW

2.5 - 143 kW

VT V6 commodore

3.8 - 147

I recon a R33 GTS25 would beat a VT V6 commodore they are a heavy car.

Dont forget the Torque, its not all about the Kw figure. I think the comonwhore has more torque

mine is 95% standard, only thing changed is cat back 3" exhaust. That is it - otherwise completely stock standard. No boost changes, nothing.. no airpod..

i said completely standard, not 95% standard, an exhaust is a mod, therefore it isnt standard.

    • Has equal chance of cleaning an AFM and f**king an AFM. I think you can work out what happened. When the Hitachi ECU sees the AFM die and goes into the associated limp mode, then it will start and run just fine, because it ignores the AFM and just runs on idle maps that will do what it needs to get it going. But there is no proper load signal, so that's about all it can do. My suggestion? If you don't want to go full aftermaket ECU, then get some R35 GTR AFM cards and some housings to put them in, in the stock location, and Nistune the ECU. Better to do a good upgrade than just replace shitty 40 year old tech with the same 40 year old tech.
    • So my car was recently having trouble starting on initial crank, I would need to feather the gas for it to start up but besides that it would start and run fine. So I clicked the idle air control valve (with throttle body cleaner) and cleaned the MAF sensors (with MAF cleaner). The start up issue was fixed and now the car turns over without the assist of the throttle, but the car is in limp mode and wont rev past 2.5k RPM. From what I understand the IACV would not put the car in limp mode, so I am to believe it is the MAF sensors, but it was running fine before and now I cant get it out of limp mode. I cleaned the MAF made sure the o rings were seated properly. Made sure the cables were plugged in properly, the cables also both read the same voltage. Does anybody know why this is or what could be causing this or how to get it out of limp mode?
    • Ooo I might actually come and bring the kids, however will leave the shit box home and take the daily
    • Thanks. Yeah I realised that there's no way I'd be able to cover the holes with the filler, it would just fall through. Thanks again @GTSBoy!
    • That was the reason I asked. If you were going to be fully bodge spec, then that type of filler is the extreme bodge way to fill a large gap. But seeing as you're going to use glass sheet, I would only use that fibre reinforced filler if there are places that need a "bit more" after you've finished laying in the sheet. Which, ideally, you wouldn't. You might use a blob of it underneath the sheet, if you need to provide some support from under to keep the level of your sheet repair up as high as it needs to be, to minimise the amount of filler you need on top. Even though you're going bodge spec here, using glass instead of metal, the same rules apply wrt not having half inch deep filler on the top of the repair. Thick filler always ends up shitting the bed earlier than thin filler.
