accusump is a waste of time/money. actually i don't know that for a fact, just srpouting crap other people have told me. they do know what they are on about though so i usualy listen.

i reckon go the dry sump if standard + baffles is not doing the job (also providing it's legal for your class GTR Geoff).

We were just running the trust sump extension with baffles nothing special obviously :) But I can only blame the engine builder, I guess I can drive better than I build engines lol

Bec unfortunately I don't think either round is on TV :) but I will post up if they are

I think it's all just Sydney Sump Baffle Syndrome (SSBS) or the local builders up there :D

I've heard some good things about the Accusump and at about $1k seems comparably priced to a good sump job with the added benefit of low pressure detection and activation and a warning system. Portable to any car as well so worthy of thought. Our top lapper in Qld is running it as well but has never had it activate so either is soft or the track simply doesn't require it..........

I'm not racing a particular class right now but intend to once in Brisbane. I guess it won't be in a Skyline though due to the limited racing available.

yeah can't argue with that. the folk up this way do seem to fear the SBS a lot. I have had the GTR out on Oran Park GP (a few times) and Eastern Creek without baffles (well as far as i know, they could be there i guess). but having said that i just last week bought a set of tomei baffles.

yeah, my only criticism of the accusump is that it's reactive in that it will activate when it detects low pressure, but by then it may be too late. it only takes a split second from what i hear to do some nasty damage.

Troy, lol at count hardcore...i like it. Yeah, dry sump is probably not for me, the sump baffles were only a couple of hundred, the bitch is putting them in. dry sump system i guess would way about the same as a accusump. though i guess some weight would be in the extra oil you would be carrying.

Honestly I think it is the ciruits, Oran Park and Eastern Creek are far harder on oil surge than Sandown, and Wakefield is probably a bit harder than Winton due to the altitude change.

You may remember that red Commondoor at Sandown, it runs an Accusump.

Hi Roy, in total weight terms the dry sump set up weighs a little more, but it is much better for weight distribution. The 10 litres of oil is in the tank in the boot and we also mount the oil cooler, catch can and oil filter at the rear as well. All up it moves around 12kgs from the front to the rear. And that's a big advantage.

Plus we run a scavenge stage for the cylinder head, so dynamically there is far less oil up high as well. This improves the front CoG a bit. The removal of oil from the sump increases the horsepower as the crank is not hitting oily mist. Not to mention the negative sump pressure from running excessive scavenge (in total terms), that gives as a few horsepower as well.

I would trade of the few kgs extra weight for those advantages every day.

 cheers :)

Agree with it all. So no dry setup on that barge..... Exxy engine to take the chance with so accusump must be alright then.

I believe it reacts to a sudden pressure drop before critical flow rates.

Wouldn't the Island be the hardest of all the tracks for oil surge? I know its a killer for fuel surge! Look at my front tyres from fuel surge at the Island (ABS failure due to engine cut from fuel surge and my consequent lack of skill)

But SBS still isn't an issue at the Island from what I've ever seen either. I still reckon you guys up there are just stuffing around with all the GTR's so that you can keep the GTST's looking quick! LOL

Oh no, Bathurst is far harder than Philip Island on oil surge because of the altitude changes.

You have to keep in mind that our GTR's (particularly the Production ones) are built to regulations, not "stick whatever you like on it". Plus Duncan spent a long time sucking hot air from Phil's GTR, not to mention the high speed spin when the brakes failed.

Oh, that reminds me.....did the engine run backwards during the spin Duncan?

:P cheers :D

For those of as not on the racing scene, what does that imply (ie. did the commondoor fail or ...)?

Oh no, it's a winner at Sandown, the track suits it, 2 drag strips joined by a wiggle. But he is coming up to Eastern Creek, so it will be interesting to see how it goes on something a little more technical.

:( cheers :)

Leanne will kick his butt :(

Undoubtedly, but it will be interesting see how Dave in the GTR gives him some hurry up. Plus we have a few more big horsepower cars up here that he won't blast past quite as easy. Should make for some good viewing on Speedweek.

:) cheers :)

Should get the rednecks charged up though, a VK crumpledoor with a V8SC donk

That's nothing, you should see the Foulcan with the 6 litre Sprintcar engine go :( , it's got another 100bhp on the Commondoor.

:) cheers :)

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
