Hey ya'll, sorry if this question has been asked a million times before, but I just wouldn't know. I'm relatively new to the arena of skylines.

Basically I have recently picked up an '93 R33 GTS-T manual etc, but the main difference that I can tell between my skyline (series 1) and other series 1's I've seen around are: Mine has two airbags, abs, fog lights and an active rear diff.

The passenger airbag is real and hooked up etc, as I had it checked out by a mechanic, its not just a series 2 dash. I thought the series 1 skylines only came out with one airbag? Like I said forgive my ignorance if this is a stupid question.

The nearest information I can find on my car is this website here, i'm pretty sure this is it: http://imports.motortraders.net/imports/spec.asp?id=653

So what I want to know is, how good is this 'active rear diff', what other difference's are there about my car to other skylines that I don't know about, and is it even rare! For all I know, every other skyline driver out there has the same gear!

Thanks all

Active rear diff is a super trickey electronically controlled LSD.

Like a traction control device.

1.5 was exactly what you said, SII bit in SI body.

The Active rear diff was aboout a $5000 extra when new.

Nice, do you know of many of these diff's in cars getting around?

Do you mind if I ask you a few more questions, I've run a few search strings on the site, but havent really found what i'm looking for.

1) Any legal information about the fitment of pod filters? (Ie is it legal in QLD as long as their the non-oiled type? And same goes for BOV's, providing they plumback? Is this correct?)

2) Does anyone on this site have any links or know anyone who offers aftermarket (or genuine) replacement handbrake leather covers and gear stick covers?

3) Is there a DIY oil change in the DIY section? I looked through a lot of pages and ran a search and couldnt really find anything?

Thankyou for your help.

Whole D.I.Y section.

Pod filters are illegal unless in a box in most states.

There's a guy who sells hand brake boots in the For Sale section.

1. I'm thinking QLD is same as NSW... to be sure, it's a dry pod enclosed. BOV has to be plumb back. There are arguments about MAP based ECUs with atmo vent but I don't wanna go there.

2. Jay was still doing these wasn't he?

3. Sciby has a great dummies how to guide.

by definition, series 1.5 would have to be a transition between the series 1 and 2 (like a 95/96 model) that blended in the differences

this whole series 1.5 thing is stupid - your car is a 93 model so its a series 1. simple as that. nissan didn't advertise a series 1.5 (or did they? - i'm happy to be proven wrong)

my bet is that you have a series 1 with some nice optional extras. you might even have a special edition something or other with the active diff, but at the end of the day its still a series 1 as its a 93 model

every man and his dog these days is trying to claim their series 1 as a series 1.5 to make it that little bit more special and its got my goat

someone prove me wrong, or leave this whole series 1.5 thing forever...

Warren.

series 1 1993 to 1995

series 1.5 is 1995 only. series 1.5 usually (ive yet seen otherwise) is always and again im yet to see otherwise. series 2 rb25det engine, series 1 front, series 1 interior, series 2 boot wing.

series 2 1996 to 1998. different bonnet. different front. different boot wing. different interior plastic pattern thingy. its smoother in the series 2. change in suspensions (only slight im pretty sure). or maybe it was brakes? seats have different trim.

FAST is Nissan's service parts catalogue, as an added bonus if you put in your japanese VIN into it, it tells you exactly what model, spec, colour and engine and features your car rolled out of the factory with.

Post a pic of your car and its VIN and I'll help ya identify it. Dual airbags were available as an option on most R33's, as were active LSD's.

mines a series 1.5 with exactly what was said above.

i guess your lucky enough to get a series 1 with all the options with it. thats rare enough for me:D

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
