i want to try get my n/a up to at least 160rwkw but even up to 200 but im not sure what to do??

At the moment i got an r33 n/a manual and my mechanic's (work at honda dealership) tell me the engine is in perfect nick, atm im upgraded the clutch to a heavy duty exceedy clutch, got a custom made 2-1/4 exhust and custom cold air intake with poddy set up, Car goes pretty hard atm keeps up and beats a lot of stock auto turbo's 32's and 33, i want to get more power out of the engine but the mechanics at my work dont know anything bout skylines, what can i do to get the power up to the figures i want?? not sure on a budgect yet so approx prices would also be helpful, thinking mabye getting it ported, apexi power fc and adjustable cam's but i doubt this will be enough power, is it mabye worth getting someone to turbo or supercharge it??? im scoured threw a lot of the forum and noby seems to talk about power figures on n/a's

for an aspirated car, hmmm cams, port polish, port the exhaust, headers, full exhast system ur 2 1/4 may be a tad small, is it mandrel bent?

there isnt a great deal u cant do unless u open them up and go hardkore :)

do you want to turbo it or supercharge it ?

y not drop a nissan v8 in ?

up to you really, its cheaper to just buy a turbo and have the power there with minor bolt ons.

just depends what u want, what you wanna do etc.

well big prob is that im on my p's which is the only reason i bought an n/a in the first place, so as much as i could turbo it myself i gto pulled over the other day n the first thing the cop looked for was the turbo he was trying to book me for power to weight, said he pulled me over cause my bodykits not painted yet, got outa it without a fine, but if i had a turbo there even if it was an n/a motor i rekon he woulda booked me, n pretty much supercharging it might be the same sorta prob damn cop's prob can't tell the difference, only prob with keeping it n/a is it get's quite expence, i originally put a 2-1/2 zorst n its was way way way to loud n the guy said i would get more lo-mid power with a 2-1/4 n some of the low end would be lost with a 2-1/2 n bigger would just start to loose power

hahah i reckon u should do the v8 thing, nissan have a 4.5l v8 i think, there is an r33 on here with it in there, the cop wouldnt know wtf is going on, its under 5 litres, but with the power i wouldnt know, and i doubt the stupid cop would know as well, lol

as him looking for the turbo to fine u for power to weight i doubt it, im sure he was just trying to give u a nice canery, but thought, meh no turbo, no fun ...

who knows, cops are weird, sometimes they are nice, and other times not

Short of a built high comp 3 litre bottom end, cams, maybe injectors, and ECU I can't see it happening. Theres an SOHC RB30E on r31skylineclub forums that did 150kw, but it has a LOT done to it.

Not worth it from a RB25DE, sell your car and get a GTS-T if you're chasing power (and get the bigger brakes, gearbox etc too which you ought to go for even at 160rwkw)... If you are considering the NA mods for insurance reasons, the mods needed for that power won't be any cheaper....

this might give you a guide...

my friend as a NA 300zx with the VG30DE 3.0L V6

(so, he has an extra 500cc over you, plus the double-throttle setup that the Z's have..)

he is currently making 140rwkw with the following mods:

- 3" exhaust

- 3" cats

- tuned-length headers

- port and polished head with larger valves on intake and exhaust side

- larger throttle bodies

- larger injectors

- unichip

- pod filter + induction setup

... all this on a freshly rebuilt engine

he has spent A LOT on this engine and it is still only making 140rwkw, even with the head modifications that he has..

i this does not discourage you from trying to build up a 2.5L NA engine, then i don't know what does..

cheers,

Warren.

after u spend $1000's, your still gonna be disappointed when a stock r33 gtst beats ya :)

Save all the money your saving in not buying petrol/mods/insurance for the GTR you can buy when your off your p's :)

lol i wudnt buy a gtr even if i had the money - but thats just me...

things will change when petrol goes higher, cos it def aint coming down..

Ditto Eug!!

I wouldnt have a GTR if u gave me one.... I had one then i got rid of it... but i wont get started on that....

To make power with the NA u will need to go for Cubes and Revs, apparently the 3ltr bottom end has bad harmonics... so i would reasearch that a little more, knife blade and balance the crank.. super lightweight rods and pistons.... Higher Compression... Huge Cams.., The biggest Valves u can fit in it with a matching port and polish that will allow u to combe sp* your hair in the reflection, Match ported 6 Throttle body intake with tuned length trumpets.. Match ported mandrel bent extractors and a really good ECU such as motec...

mmm i didnt really think it was that much of a task to get it to 160, its prob only bout 50rwkw, but this is my first n/a car ive tryed to get any power out of, well ill prob go with turboing it although im going to have to find a place to hide the turbo set up, Cop wasnt trying to canery me he was actually quite nice had a talk to him, he bent over straight for the turbo n when i said it was n/a he said ohhh n like then he gave me a look at their print out of cars wich are too powerfull, NO R32's gtst's on it for anyone who cares,

all good advices there :) but is there anyone think about insurance cost? and running cost?

NA is far cheapest to run and own me think :(

:werd:

everyone will be spewin when petrol goes up again!

power to fuel ratio :) we win!

ok. here is my idea of CHEAP bang for BUCK improvements of NA skylines.

1.clean your car out- Take all the Maccas rubbish and non-sense weight. cut it down. - its time to clean our your boot!

2.you loose weight!!! yeah you fat ass, go to gym and work out loose 5 or 10 kg!!! its good for your health and for the fuel usage on the Skyline

3. Keep check your oil, radiator waters, Especially TIRE PRESSUREs including your spare tires.

4. Just drive it with sense on the road, do not rev out too much or drive like you OWN a GTR!!! you dont! :P

5. Keep your car tidy, clean. and service it regularly :(

6. then you are ready to put on any bolt on upgrades... what ever you fancy.

there you go, my tip for the day :)

cheers

Joe

    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
