going nowhere finding someone to weld up the 31

seriously considering siliconing up the holes, keeping the metal i've shaped and welding up when it goes back to qld

in the process of regoing the r31 today and stumbled upon this

"Can an unregistered vehicle be towed?

A permit must be obtained even if the vehicle is being towed by a registered vehicle, unless the registered vehicle is a tow truck."

http://www.transport.tas.gov.au/registration_information_tas/short_term_unregistered_vehicle_permit

what the?

also, i thought you could just drive your un-regoed car around IF you were getting it fixed/going to the pits, but on that it says you have to get the permit to do it!

Big ooops if you can't because the car may be getting a road worthy cert as we speak :ermm:

If you are going to the pits/inspection you don't need a permit. But you do need to be booked in, and heading the most direct route there.

i gave my self some inspiration/motivation thanks to a sleepless night and photoshop

I have a roof wing for a 33 at home, nice shape. Not really sure I want to sell it but it looks silly with a rear series 2 wing and I don't plan on ditching that anytime soon. If you would like it offer me some street credits and it could be yours.

Eoi on a few parts i have laying about: r33 pfc and 550cc injectors 1k or swap for wheels or coilovers to suit ceff or r32 , r32 brakes and rotors 250? , rb26 twin aftermarket stainless manifold and twin td05 turbos with dump pipes $800

  • 2 weeks later...

SAU tas is dead atm, so here's some more of my shit. nowelly, look away now.

made my splitter end plates/fins.

made my blank plate for my dash where the head unit used to live.

made base plates for some F1 craft square style carbon lightweight mirrors. (still have protective shit on) - black polly carb.

and didnt take pics but made up some carbon sheets that cover the OEM wing holes in the boot, going to fit some 300mmx300 carbon base plates to the boot under the wing also. even tho i have braced the boot/wing with 3mm wall ally RHS, bit of added rigidity wont hurt. will eventually get myself a carbon flush fitting boot, but that is going to have to wait til more important shit is bought.

lexan screens wont be too far away. couple more weeks.

I also got some new hole saw bits and decided to cheddar cheese my door frame. using both 52mm and 32mm saw bits. did 31 holes, to removed a grand total of 100 grams. um, think i'll stop there at best i'll get another 100 grams out (of the passengers isde door). total waste of time and effort. only way to make enough difference would be to remove the oem intrusion bar, cut the entire inside section of the door frame out remove window reg and run permantenly fixed lexan screen with NACA sliders. bugger that, i'll run lexan screens but i'm keep my elec. window regs. will save around 1 kg per side on the mirrors. carbon doors would save a shitload but thats not happening anytime soon!

hoping to get the boot painted out in the next few weeks, not too many things left now =D

Carbon isn't very stiff if its just laid on flat

maybe grab some core material if you want to stiffen it up some more (you can make some little stiffeners by laminating some core material with carbon over the top)

update on the dirty wan:

sprinted down to hobart yesterday and picked up a rear windscreen for $20! to replace the one i exploded by accident

booked in on wed for the reinstall, ($110 at obriens)

its is actually pretty rigid, i have a bit of 2.5mm thick stuff that i trialed, spreads the load more evenly on the boot skin, but the bracing in the boot is mounted upto the boot skin, which took me (90kg) bouncing up and down on it. the said carbon will also hide some holes from a previous wing trial, lol

yeah pretty much came to that conclusion. I'm an Ex panel beater, so have the gear to do so but can't bring myself to unspot them and rip them out. well not at this stage anyway. E46 beamer intrusion bars bolt out, wish datsun's where the same!

Hey guys,

So I have a 33 as a daily now, actually really liking the car. Not after any engine mods as I have the 180 for that.

Anyway is there any r33's being wrecked around tassie at all? There is a few things I want to replace to fix it up a bit nicer.

Cheers, Mandi

Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
