Hey All,

I know this topic has been done over and over again but i've got a question regarding it.

I got pulled over by Pettett last night and given a fine for driving a high powered vehicle on p plates, car was stock, no defect, wasn't breaking any road rules. I've recieved a few of these before and normally its just the $110 fine and they let you drive off.

However last night i was told that I was not to drive the car or I would have the car keys taken off me. Anyone know the truth to this? I've rang a few different TMU offices and the rule seems to be different from police officer to police officer. Some say yes you can drive it home, some say no you cant but if you get caught again then another fine.

From my experience its just the fine and they let you go. I just want to know if i'm within my rights to drive off after the fine.

Any feedback regarding this? I've tried looking up the laws/acts on the internet but havent' found anything concrete.

Hmmm, not sure on this.

I would imagine it's just a plain bad idea to test the laws by driving such a car on P's. Mi nd you there's heaps of you out there.

My advice that came too late is you shouldn't drive an import near Knox area if you are under 25y.o. Sounds like they pick on young guys in these cars. Unfortunately, the minority of idiots give you a bad rep.

hahah lmao every 1 knows petit and he knows the road rules, cars and mods very well so ye he knows his shit!!!

im been done in that area (Knox) the worst ever. Got defected and done by EPA there at the time

i think that Petit is right on this one, dont think u r allowed to drive it if he said it cause its still the rules. He could just keep giving u fines everytime u drive the car cant he cause you keep breaking the rules?

Im not 100% on the rules but think of it this way if you are speeding and you get caught and in turn loose your licence the cop says thanx have a nice day, and here's your licence back. You will be required to had in the licence in 28 days.. You have basically lost the licence yet your aloud to keep driving for 28 days until it's processed am I not right??

Could be same situation here... don’t think this guy is 100% correct every time. The law always comes down to interpretation. Multiple people have been booked by him for things they shouldn't have, so if you feel you were treated unfairly do something about it i say...

ye thats true, i know this cause it happened to me but it depends on how much over the speed limit u were going

Tracid im not sure but i know of people who were doing a good 50km over the limit and they were aloud to continue to drive so i don’t honestly see how Pettett is able to tell you to not drive the car home...

didnt INASNT get caught speeding n drive home still? or was that a diff member.... was ages ago

id listen to pettett or he will rape ur ass more.... then we just get fresh pig heads and dump them on his lawn

i wouldnt wanna test this particular law....he books you, you say thanks and drive off.

he pulls you over 10m down the road and books you again for breaking the same law...

you wanna go for a third? lol

cant really comapre it to the speeding scenario.

JapCab were you fined in KNOX? I heard he doesnt just patrol KNOX but also ringwood area and shit aswell?

Guys would you think that Petits would put a mark next JAPCAB's record so if another cop pulls him up they will take his 'keys away' ?

i got done 110 in a 50 zone

then i did a runner on the police

not proud of it but i was still given 28 days to drive after that

just drove home n continued to drive till my 28 days where up

N NOW IT SUCKS SO BAD

DONT EVER SPEED. you dont realise how good having a licence is.

there will probably be a mark on your file or something to that affect cos he is a through and hard bastard, which in my mind isnt always a bad thing, who knows he might save your life one day when some p plater in a 200rwkw gtst comes fyling thru an intersection at your car at 80km/h and hits your car head on. but anyway id be pretty careful if i was you, i think they may be able to notify your insurance company too, not sure on the legaities of it allb

but it was discussed like 3 weeks ago, 5 page thread

hehe, good ol' petitte.

my advice. do what i did

buy a daily driver, and whenever you have to drive through knox, take the daily...

that area's like danger zone man.

If you want some advice from a cop, goto nissansilvia.com and post there in vic section, or pm Smokey because he is a cop and gives good advice.

just to add, you chose to drive a car illegally... so be prepared to suffer the consequences.

Just curious, how many demerit points did you lose for driving powerful vehicle?

Also, fairly sure they can't take your car away. The only way they can do this is if you are charged with a serious indictable offence. They will find it imposible to prove that driving a high powered vehicle warrants an indictable offence. The cop will get absolutely owned if he unjustly confiscates a car. Having said that, if you start drifting in a public space where you can endanger life, don't be suprised to get your car taken away.

    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
    • When I said "wiring diagram", I meant the car's wiring diagram. You need to understand how and when 12V appears on certain wires/terminals, when 0V is allowed to appear on certain wires/terminals (which is the difference between supply side switching, and earth side switching), for the way that the car is supposed to work without the immobiliser. Then you start looking for those voltages in the appropriate places at the appropriate times (ie, relay terminals, ECU terminals, fuel pump terminals, at different ignition switch positions, and at times such as "immediately after switching to ON" and "say, 5-10s after switching to ON". You will find that you are not getting what you need when and where you need it, and because you understand what you need and when, from working through the wiring diagram, you can then likely work out why you're not getting it. And that will lead you to the mess that has been made of the associated wires around the immobiliser. But seriously, there is no way that we will be able to find or lead you to the fault from here. You will have to do it at the car, because it will be something f**ked up, and there are a near infinite number of ways for it to be f**ked up. The wiring diagram will give you wire colours and pin numbers and so you can do continuity testing and voltage/time probing and start to work out what is right and what is wrong. I can only close my eyes and imagine a rat's nest of wiring under the dash. You can actually see and touch it.
