Just sold my zed .. 90TT, ive owned a 180sx a sylvia and now a stagea and nothin compared in performance to the zed. Im no mechanic so i wont go into all that side of it can only tell you from my own personal experierience.

Performance... Woohoo!!! when the zeds on boost there is nothin like i was runnin stock turbos so wasnt a full throw back in ya seat like the lighter 180 n sylvia but the amount of torque was amasing you jus watch the tacho rip all the way around, i found by about 5700rpm its time to select a new gear and whoosh ur off again ... very easy to embarass almost anything on the road from a rolling start..(from the lights too but takes a lot of practice with a heavy duty clutch hell of a lot of traction loss with the small turbos coming on boost early heaps of torque and a heavier car).

Handling...For a heavier car i had no problem with the handling even comparing to the 180 although heavier i was able to give it a lot more on corners due to the hicas pulling it back in line (im no drifter- to those that are you would prob disagree with this) Braking was a different issue .. at high speed when i first got it the whole car vibrated so bad and i could hardly hold the wheel .. i took it in to get sorted and apparently thats a common fault with zeds (just some bushes) so i had em replaced wheel allignment disks checked etc and although a hell of a lot safer a speed it was still there so had to always back of the power very early and ease the brake gently.

Mechanically .. well i cant complain bout the engine it was strong as an ox, all i gonna say here is before you buy get a full inspection compression test etc from someone that really knows these cars cos i spent over $2500 just on maintenance. Nothing went wrong but damn mechanics hate them (cos no room) and they charge like a wounded bull to work on em so make sure you get a good one.

Plus's ... Mods hahaha had quite a bit done to mine n got pulled over a few times for an inspection ... gotta love the zed for this ... they never found anything guess its just to hard to figure it out plus with the BOV's and the pod filter hidden in the front. Respond very well to mods so you dont need to do a whole heap. Targa top, electric everything, poss leather (mine did loved it)

Negz.. Mods can be very expensive cos a lot of what you do u need to double up on ie BOV = BOV's, etc etc u get the point, an dthe one and only reason i sold mine was heaps of room in the front but mine was a 2 seater so thats all ya get bud ... heaps of fun for you n one more.

On a closing note dun be scared of the engine like i said earlier im no mechanic but after a lil while i figured most of it out and at one point was able to find where a huge coolant leak was coming from from a tiny outlet pipe from the engine, had to remove the fan water pump etc to fix it but wasnt that big a deal and basic servicing is so easy on them but mechanics wont tell you that.

hope this was of some help to ya

merry xmas

Brother had one of these. Had the twin turbo, sunroof, yellow paint job etc, awesome looking car.

Some guy ended up hitting him and the car was a right off.

As said above, he didnt care much for repairs. Usually the engine was pulled out to fix one thing. He was also looking at better cooling before the crash.

These days he drives an MR2 and doesnt look back. :nyaanyaa:

If I was you, I would find something else. Unless you have the money to blow on a car's upkeep.

Great cars if you look after them! With 300rwhp mine did a 13.1 @ 175km/h with heaps of wheelspin. Speed indicates it should be a much quicker time it's just hard to get the power down. I only sold mine for a change, always wanted a GTR so thought why not.

Couple of cooling issues but it's just maintenance, ie hoses.

In my opinion the 300zx is the underdog of the performance import scene. Not many people have them or modify them...which makes them kind of special...Its probably not a practical car for a family guy but as a speed machine they have got awesome potential. For the guys who have made the effort the rewards have been reaped...But looking under the bonnet...Uhhh!! How is a person supposed to work on this thing ?...First mod would be a heavily vented carbon bonnet to let all that heat out and protect electrics...Definately a car for those who arent intimidated by a challenge

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
