  1. i was speaking to a dude at a tuning garage here in adelaide just today about this! He told me that while top end power of the garret vs HKS will be in the same ball park for similar turbos, apparently the HKS have far better response and make the power earlier. dont have any experience personally, sorry!
  2. Ive used this ECU. Scan the performance pages, there are heaps of threads that cover everything! Despite what they say about how good an ecu is, just remember that if your tuner isnt perfect, its more than likely that your tune wont be either . The best advice i can give anyone buying anything:- You get what you pay for (pretty much all the time, maybe some lucky exceptions! Most of you know this anyway, but like myself, its hard to turn away what "looks like" a bargain!)
  3. dude, i need two wheels with tyres asap. For adelaide. Yay, Nay?
  4. hotino and others, although the link below has already posted in a different thread. It is a very interesting short read about some brands of air filters, their effectiveness, and how their manufacturer can promote misleading information. http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_t...st/2/index.html edit: It might shed some light on some misconceptions going around as to which type of filter is best for your car and your AFM.
  5. BP ultimate where possible, never pings. Synergy 8000 98 occasionally. Never used a 96 octane premium. Arent the std computers tuned for 100 octane fuel in Jpn??
  6. thats actually interestsing. But i do believe the 12psi is after the presure drop from the intercooler. So yes, the turbo is boosting harder than that, but everyone does it, and it seems fine. RPM did a test (in a Zoom Mag, dont know what issue) and found over 20psi before the intercooler to get 12psi after it! (std heatsoaked intercooler.) So it seems the 12psi is the safe limit in regards to detonation and means safe for the engine, not so much worrying about the turbo itself. The ceramic turbine wheels of the series 1's must be ok seeing that so many ppl boost up with the std cooler, and i dont hear of many of those turbos failing.
  7. someone hasnt read the thread thoroughly
  8. most turbos with BOVs will make a flutter at low boost unless the BOV spring is really loose. This is okay apparrently, as at low boost the turbos not spinning so fast as to cause worry about damage. Then at high boost, your BOV will take over. I love fluttering around town, people look, but it doesnt look like your after too much attention unlike a hard boost in 1st followed by a massive BOV- can be a bit too show-offy at times.
  9. I have used the meguiars wet look polish and their wax, and while its great when its done, it requires FAR more elbow grease than the equivalent AUTOGLYM products. Now im using AUTOGLYM super resin polish, followed by their super hard coat protectant/gloss. Its awesome stuff and HELL EASY to apply and buff off. Save your time and effort and try this stuff. (i use the meguiars foam applicator pads, and their terry cloth buffing towels, they are cool. Dont use an old t-shirt or tea towel!)
  10. Hicks, im with you on the water spray. waste of time!!!!!!!!! I hear a lot of ppl say the ac sucks power. I seriously dont hardly notice mine when its on. Surely there is some sort of clutch system? with a redline of 7000plus, does the ac compressor really spin this fast when you redline the car?!! Surely the thing disengages or something, as that would be too much compressing!! where would all the pressure go?
  11. interesting looking air intake pod. Seen em in shops, are they supposed to make a loud sucking sound? looks restrictive? Hows it sound?
  12. in the above, "then again" means drag chamois over panel again, not wring out again but obviously you wring out after each drag
  13. Yeah, its your chamois. If old or crappy quality it will streak. i use meguiars synthetic chamois, cheap and lasts long. I just bought another one today, they need a couple of uses before they give best results. Some tips, some mentioned already :- never wash/dry car in sunlight. Parts of it dry real quick giving you bad water spots. Im sure there are other reasons as well The meguiars soft wash gel is wicked. (pink stuff) Fold your chamois in quarters so you got a reasonably sized square, and drag it across the panel your drying once to get the bulk of the water off, then WRING OUT THOROUGHLY, then again, and then usually again to get a perfect streak free finish. Dont put your hand aver the chamois and move it round and round as if your buffing. Drag the square over the panel. If the chamois is wrung out properly and you do your windows as above, you get no streaks whatsoever. (provided you washed it properly and got all the dirt off.) Never use a cotton or old article of clothing to dry your car. these scratch, as they drag too much on your paint. (unless your car is super waxed up).
  14. sorry dudes, but are you all talkting about the smell of fuel in the cabin?? I get this in my 33 as does a mate, what are you saying it is? the fuel filler neck? how!? i never spill any fuel? please explain
  15. well ive found the problem. The ECU. i pulled the microtech and plugged back the factory computer and it fired first pop. bloody hell! not happy! I want to put back my AFM so i can drive around, but it looks like some of the wires from the plug to the AFM have been bastardised by the microtech install. Anyone know the deal with this!? :D :(
  16. hi guys, fitted an LT12 ECU, and just recently the car sometimes just wont start. It cranks and cranks with no sign of life. Then if its left for a night, it will often start up straight away the next morning! Also i may have just been for a drive, so its all warmed up, then ill get back in and it wont start - i had success push starting it once or twice, even though the battery cranks the motor fine. Now its just dead. I tried push starting it down my road, only to get it stuck at the bottom of the hill, and i had to tow the bastard back up. battery is fine, just wont fire. Thought plugs might have something to do with it, so i changed them, (needed doing anyway) but no result. My dad reckons the injectors arent firing when the engine is cranking coz he cant smell petrol out the exhaust? please help!!!!!!!!!!

    Car Video

yeah, i figured a lot of ppl have had the idea but hadnt gotten round to actually doing it, like myself. So far its my 33, the white 32 CORRUPT, Drift's blak 33 s2, and GFX what you driving atm? would be cool if we could get a long line of skylines to film a big high speed fly-by down the free way or in the tunnel etc.
  18. i sold a sick low 12/high 11sec torana to go buy an YZF R6. Got the R6 brand new, sold it after 6 months and bought back the torana!! Too many near death experiences man. In the end, car is more fun/useful!! Get a sick bike, and cut some laps, and the chicks cant see who you are!! You got no music, can't chill/talk with mates while on the go, and the helmet messes up your hair. (torrie since been replaced by the 33- best move ever)
  19. Hi all, Ive been wanting to make up some sort of cool car video for ages. Ive got a DV Camcorder and capture card etc, and was wondering if anyone else out there is interested in DV editing/ amatuer producing etc. I was thinking of getting a few ppl with DV cam corders so we can take multiple angles of stuff, and put together a sick skyline/import vid. Sounds like fun, film a bit of drift, a few runs, and whateva other cool stuff we want to put our cars through the more cars involved, the more interesting it should end up. A bit of basic editing, some cool titles and some tuff music.. sweet! let me know whos interested, cheers, Allan -any cool ideas of what to film invited!
  20. freebaggin, sounds like our cars are identical but your getting 100km extra per tank!! thats a lot of extra k's!! Those of you who mentioned it, yes, i think it just needs fine tuning to better the economy. If i can get 400km per tank id be totally happy. LT12 has no closed loop control. Hippy, Thats just weird that you get better econ on normal premium!! Those of you who bag the LT12 as an ECU, thats not what i wanted to bring attention to! With the LT12 the car drives awesome, and makes good power. It is only the economy im questioning. And in light of freebaggins 400km per tank, i think thats heaps acceptable around town!! It obviously comes down to the tuner. If i get my retune, and am happy with the economy, id have no problem highly recommending this ECU. :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:
  21. Those of you who remember the FC vs Microtech thread a while ago will recall the debate on how the microtech effects fuel economy. Well since back in adelaide ive gone through a few tanks of ultimate 98. Meggala, i guess im eating my words now dude. I am not real impressed with the fuel economy to say the least! I am embarrasssed to say that i struggle to get over 300k's a tank! JEES! I used to get 350k's minimum when flogging the car, and I had previously put this down to a heavy foot with extra power, but even when cruising, the thing sucks just about as much fuel as when boosting. So driving conservatively doesnt do the economy any favours, which really sucks! I am pretty pissed off with this, as i had been practically assured by a "big name" that the economy wouldnt be too bad prior to purchasing the ECU. I am curious tho to whether tuning influences this? Am I right that i could get more fine tuning done on part throttle or light load to better the economy?? Bottom line guys, the economy of my car blows (chunks). That said however, the power is awesome, and ive been cleaning up on the street! -also this is only one car, what are you other LT12 users getting?! Cheers, and apologies for previously backing the MTech without doing my own tests. Was just passing on info from what should've been a reliable source.
  22. great guys, but as said, seen a lot of avg cars there. Prices come down a lot with cash.
  23. Martin, also, can i get you to tune my car through tilbrooks? Do i just ring up and say i want you to do it?? And can i get a dump pipe of same design as your soarer ones on the TT setup? -i still have the cast factory dump. gimme a price and ill be there, cheers.
  24. Martin, how does it launch now? Can you still compete in the traffic light 0-100?? I ran a black 33 the other night (i think it had silver/grey Zeni Tani sticker on side) and i killed him 0-100 off the line, then i back off-we're in a 60 zone- and then he comes screaming past (had an external gate or screamer pipe, which by the way i didnt think sounded very nice!) What do you guys think of these cars with massive peak power, but that cant give a decent run off the line?? I dont see that as being very fun! That said, i have 200rwkw, but need a few extra! Had trouble holding off a pack of 180's last night on anzac, and those buggers were launching awesome too!
