It's a really nice bit of kit and I have been following it's development for the past 12 months. it is a really good alternative to a PFC. I helluva lot of work has gone into it.

Thanks Cubes, I will be limited to around 17psi with a slide hiflow due to the high shaft speed it will be spinning at to supply the 30det. I don't really want to run much higher boost for a street driven car anyway. mind you I would be pissed if it waa goes together and I am limited to 14psi. I want to be able to run the turbo at maximum efficiency. so it looks like I will have to do something. I am hoping the hiflow will produce 250~260rwkw on the 30det as it would make 241rwkw on the 20det. A turbo upgrade will be on the cards in 6 months but I don't really like running super high boost.

There seem to be a lot of people using the RB25de heads and not replacing the valve springs. is valve float related to pressure/boost or flow aswell. does anyone have a rating for the RB25de, RB20det and rb26 springs? are they all interchangeable? thanks!

don't use wd40 inside the bellhousing. it is a penatrating lubricant. you need to use graphite powder.

I was in this exact situation 3 years ago. I sold my modded cefiro and bought a cheap car for $5000. drove it for 2 years and saved every single cent. paid off my 10G loan and saved another few grand. shold the shitter and bought a clean cheap R32 cash.... no I save 2 grand every month. there is a few $$$ left over after living expenses to sepend on the car still. so it can be done. I live like a pauper, but a pauper with savings and a modified skyline and I never worry about money anymore you can do it mate, it just takes a little discipline goodluck! -
much more accurate description than mine . Looking at the standard RB26 map, the AFR's would be 10:1 if using an RB30 bottom end and putting your foot down at 2400rpm.

oops sorry... I will have a quick look at rb26rom tonight and see if i can see what's causing the hesitation. from memory cubes was an rb20 ecu user fro run in i just assumed you were too

it's hard to get a decent turbo for your needs for less than $1500. there are cheap units like a KKR480 but i would really spend the extra 500~700 to get a GT-RS

230rwkw is around the max. I would go powerFC over a safc as you will want to continue upgrading later

I just tuned one of these last week. RB30DET using RB30 bottom end and RB25de head. if you are using the standard R32 ECU an AFM you will expierence this at 2400rpm when cruising and then get on throttle. then it will start to pick up at around 3200 rpm. the 2 factors that make this happen is the RB20DET timing map. bugger all advance. engines need timing to make torque also the AFM reads a lot more flow than it would with the 20det so the TP scale is out by about 30%. this makes the tune rich. The combination of the 2 things make it a slug. if you put it on the dyno you will see what I mean. I ran 18deg timing on the one i just tuned and corrected the AFR and it came on boost a lot earlier and increase response and made power delivery a lot better This does not happen with the RB20det because it never accesses the far right TP scale at 2400RPM It is quite ease to make some minor adjustments to the tune to get it to run the 30det nicely.

After a year of developing and tuning I have finally finished something I think will be of great benefit to the SAU community. especially now the power FC is difficult to get for the RB20det. The tune I have developed is for these who have completed what most consider to be the standard modifications for an R32 skyline. I have spent in total 16 hours dyno time over 12 months and tuned over a dozen cars to get a result that will optimize the performance of an R32 skyline. The tune is designed to be used on R32 Skylines with the following upgrades: RB25 turbo high flowing split dump pipe 3" exhaust FMIC Hiflow 3" cat upgraded fuel pump While every engine differs especially once it is modified this tune is designed to maintain 12:1 AFR's with the modifications listed and will dramatically increase your response and midrange power. The tune also has increased the factory mass airflow cut beyond the point that an RB25 turbo can supply (around 14psi) so there is still a safety margin in case boost is wound up too high or your actuator hose is split. I have also removed the speed limit and set the rev limit to 7300rpm for engine longevity. Please note this is NOT a replacement for a customized tune that has been done by a tuning professional and is not a one size fits all tune... If you want a custom tune please do a search for Dr Drift or Speedlab. The kit is also supplied with valet mode and has been developed for those times you have to leave your car with a mechanic or anyone you are weary leaving a 200rwkw car with. By simply pressing a button you arm valet mode. Your rev limit is reset to 3500rpm. The car CAN NOT rev over this while it is in valet mode. This reduces the cars top speed to approx 117kmph. Valet mode also reduces the car’s power output below the 3500rpm rev limit making the car feel sluggish and uninspiring to drive, thus further reducing the chance of someone thrashing your pride and joy. Once you are back in possession of the car you simply disarm valet mode and you are back to normal high performance mode. the kit is simply fitted to your existing ECU and comprises of a new chip, pcb, cover wiring, switch a socket. you will have to have your standard rom removed from the ecu and have the provided socket fitted in its place. this will need to be done by an electronics repair shop and should cost less than $50 Full instructions will be provided with the kit. The dyno run below was an R32 gtst with RB25neo turbo, FMIC 3" exhaust, bosch040, cheap hiflow cat and no other modifications. the numbers hand written are to reference the same car with the turbo that was fitted later. and do not reflect on this tune so ignore them The dyno run below is my personal car and has the following modifications. sliding preformance turbo, GTR injectors, GTR fuelpump, FMIC, 3" exhaust with metalcat and splitfire coils. this dyno run was done on low boost 16psi. hence the rich AFR. full boost of 19psi yeilds 240rwkw and perfect 12:1 afr's this tune is also available with the kit. please specify if this is the tune you require If any more information is needed please PM or post below. VQ's are an open deck design and are not usually used as a performance base. there is nothing wrong with them they are a really good engine. the best place to find information on them will be the nissan maxima forums, it would be a lot of effort putting one in an R32 A HELL OF A LOT. if you really wanted to go that way it would not be bad the weight distrabution would be good. personally I would stick with the RB...

you can also take the R33 actuator and elongate the hole by filing it so there is less preload on the spring:) or if you want to disconnect the rod from the wastegate flap leaving the waste gate open all the time. an R32 with 5psi is still a very fast car for an inexperienced driver. I can guarantee I would have crashed one if it was my first car.

Would the RB20 fuel rail be the same seeming as you can use GTR injectors in an RB20? I have just bought an rb25de head and want to use gtr injectors and my rb20 fuel rail.

Hi Greg, I have seen this car at autotech and was there when it was being tuned and yep it has a really meaty power curve and some ridiculous torque figure. seeing the figures from this car helped me make th 30det decision.

I am sure you have already thought of it but RB30DET then no need for rb26 crank the cost of the build would be nearly the same. you would loose VCT but the extra capacity is a big bonus -
Nice! that adapter looks the goods. Secur1ty, I am in the same boat as you. It looks like I will be using my slide hiflow on my RB30 and possibly upgrade later (who am i kidding ofcorse i will bloody upgrade later) as if a measly 330rwhp is enough I have bought all my parts and will be using: RB30E series 2 nissan block, rods, pistons and crank. will inspect it and if it is in good condition I am not going to rebuild it as it has fairly low k's R33 RB25DE head with VCT stock cams, new springs, r33 CAS and all standard R33 bits standard nissan or cometic HG. new tensioners x 2 and 151 tooth belt GTR injectors R32 remapped ECU Things I will have to figure out... 1. I will have to adapt a top feed fuel rail to an R33 RB25 inlet manifold. this should be doable... I already have the GTR squirters so make do with them. 2. will have to do a bit of figuring out how to get the R32 loom to play with the R33 cas and sensors otherwise I will have to swap the cams to R32 ones Do'h! 3. sort out the VCT head modifications, drill and tap tensioner hole, lower engine mounts. so its a bit of work and will be the first time i have taken on a project this big. I have changed gearboxes, diffs and brakes, suspension but never pulled an engine apart. I have a hoist, big garage a spare car and a big garage so all should be sweet! The aim is to have a responsive 250rwkw package that is reliable with decent torque. anyone see anything i have missed?
