Yeah I think a "good" one runs you quite a few dollars though, by good I mean the race version with full cage and potentially a boosted motor. If we say my Silvia at full weight with me in it is 1200-1300kg? It makes 200rwkw so 6-6.5kg/per kW and that thing weighs between 660-700 I think depending on donor parts used. If we say 700-740 with me in it and we could maybe squeeze 100rwkw out of an NA MX5 motor (I'm guessing, I have no idea) then you end up with 7-7.4kg/per kW. If you could get a mild boosted platform (say low boost supercharged setup) and get it to 140rwkw or so then things look nicer. I realise there's more to lap time than power to weight and that thing would kick ass through the corners and most likely be faster even with a worse power to weight as it can maintain higher corner speeds once moving. I'd need to drive one There doesn't appear to be much in the open wheeler space for reasonable $$ so I can see why MX5s are so popular.

Lets talk Open Wheelers/Lightweight NA track cars. Is anyone here playing with open wheelers for track day fun? I like the idea of something lighter, NA and hopefully less maintenance/tuning/cooling hassle/cheaper on tyres and brakes than my turbo S13 track car. Or are these things prohibitively expensive to buy/maintain? Failing that, what other small/lightweight track cars have potential to go quick? I see MX5s are popular but I also see people sink bulk coin into them before they're quick.

The Build Of The Beast

Oh man, I would have loved to have been there when you dropped the collet. I've had a few of those moments lol -
I think you might both be talking about different models. Either way, a lot of the "issues" people have with GTRs, of any year, is cost, and what's expensive for one is not for another, it's all relative.

Thanks for the solid feedback. The issue with exhaust notes is there are exactly 0x R35s locally, I think I own the only R34 GTR as it is. Can always head to Melbourne for a meet though. E85 isn't available at the pump here currently, but I get it from another town nearby for my 34 It seems the best way to handle trans issues is just have the money handy and accept it's a "when" not if. My main issue is again, nobody locally can deal with it. I'd be off to Melb, maybe Race Pace. I don't drive my R daily, so the hassle of manual in traffi is not an issue for me, plus I'm not in the city, but I get your point re ease of use and performance. Would you still prefer the R35 over the 34 if you were only driving it twice a month? Subjective as you said.

Sell 34R for something Euro?

No way should you spend 60k on a car that doesn't make 200kw... Also the Z4 looks like a busted crab 0_0 -

What was your take on it Terry? -
But no listed differencs between by earlier model 99-04 and after that when the condenser changes?
-
Is there a diagram for later model as the condenser piping looks different
-
Is it this part? http://nissan.epc-data.com/skyline/bnr34/3956-rb26dett/engine/276/27640/

Anyone?

Can you confirm if the little canister on the front is the same? Is that the receiver dryer? I've been offered a new model condenser and Amayama says they are interchangeable but the lines look different.

Suspension is probably 3rd on my list given the current ones "work". No point paying out of my own pocket to upgrade a free car. -

Josh said: With a lovely chassis like the 34 with some decent rubber and power, the valving performance offered with the X-R series I feel would be ideal. The Blue series are an excellent package for the price point but are a street/comfort orientated style setup that when using your car for even spirited street driving may not offer the support needed with your level of rubber and the AWD. Blue series are $1590 inc GST and come with default spring rates of 9kg front and 3.5kg rear. The difference between the X-R and X-C is all in the valving, this determines how a shock works and gives it its characteristics. The X-C series are developed for comfort and ride quality only, so again I feel if wanting to exploit your chassis and power this would be a little lacking compared to the X-R series. The X-R series paired with the spring rates recommended are aimed at being the best blend between performance and ride quality with only our custom valved Red series offering a better blend. -

Car has never been to the track during my ownership, is unlikely to go more than a few times while I have it. -

Yeah I've been told the same thing. The BC ERs that are in it are a bit firm for me, but they're in good condition and likely not worth heaps to sell plus the MCA X-Rs I want are 2k =\ -

Daily = work car(free). Think I will keep the 34, put a nicer clutch in it and maybe some Cams and just sit back and see what what the R35 market does. -

lol easily amused I see I did consider something leaning more towards luxury than performance, but I know stuff all about cars in that space. Plus they're generally big 4 door things and ideally I just wanted a 2 door. -
