  1. Take it to the guys at Integra Automotive. They have heaps of experience with Skylines and can pick the lemons from decent ones. Their phone number is in my signature.
  2. For your first question I would reccomend the guys at Integra Automotive. Heaps of experience with Skylines, and I would be confident in saying they have the best Power FC/Autronic/Motec/Microtech tuner in Canberra working there (Ed). They are out in Queanbeyan, give them a call on 62329329 and go out and have a talk to them and tell them what you are after.
  3. Hooray for buyer beware. Theres not much recourse you can take on a private sale unfortunately. There are tests that can be done before buying the car to check for bottom end damage (oil sample analysis) but most people dont bother with it (and I dont blame them, its a bit overkill).
  4. I didnt get it either... and my R32 never spun a bearing Uusually happens from deotnation, poor oil supply/quality, or its just been thrashed to hell and back.
  5. Rumor going around pit paddock at the moment is Massa will go back to Sauber at the end of this year and the new replacement driver for Ferrari is none other than our home grown hero, Webber (as his Williams contract expires at the end of this season).
  6. Youve done a big end bearing. Time to pull her apart and give it a rebuild. Take it to Integra Automotive for engine removal/refit (about $2200 from memory which is standard price anywhere) and then talk to Pro Engines about rebuild. Both are in Queanbeyan and deal with GTR's every day. EDIT: Forgot to mention, dont drive the car. The more you do, the more damage you will do to it. Best case scenario is you get it towed and its a fairly cheap rebuild, worst case scenario if you keep driving is the bearing locks up, conrod bends and exists out the side of the block. Then you will be in for a whole world of hurt when you see the rebuild price.
  7. The R34 GTR M-Spec's came with factory leather. The only other one I have seen was an Australian delivered model which came with factory leather.
  8. You cant, its an engine out and crank out job so you may as well do the rebuild at the same time.
  9. Quite a few of the reputable workshops in Australia have told me correctly prepped stock rods with suitable rod bolts will hold quite alot of power and 9000rpm without a problem (as long as youre not hitting 9000rpm all day every day). I know of a RB26 running 520rwkw in its street driven trim with stock rods, has never had a problem in its life. The only failure of the conrods you generally hear about is due to oil related issues, not the strength of the part itself. In saying that though, for $900 you may as well chuck a set of Eagle rods in it for a bit of extra safety.
  10. You are mistaken. Having just had one done at Pro Engines, it is definately a crank out job. The nose of the crank needs to be machined down, the collar is then pressed on and grub-screwed for a bit of extra security
  11. Ouch! I would definately be finding a good lawyer as its going to be -very- hard to get your money. Was anything defective on the car at all? If so I would advise to get it off before he/his lawyer can get a look at it. It can be argued otherwise that the car was defectable and you shouldnt have been driving it in the first place. Good luck... know a friend who had a bad accident and the people that hit him were insured. 4 months later the ball is only just starting to roll and he probably wont see a cent for another 12 months. Hope this guy has the spare cash to pay you or else youre going to find yourself severely out of pocket. Good luck.
  12. If it was installed properly, it should have the plastic cable taps/cuts. Basically you put the original wire in and the wire from the safc in, close them up and it splices the original and feeds it into the safc wire. It would be pretty obvious which wires go where from looking at that. Thats if it was installed properly though Otherwise its just a matter of matching colour to colour, wouldnt take more than 30 minutes to do. Sorry to hear about it Exactly the reason I will never move to apartments. Their "secure" car parks seem to have the highest rate of theft.
  13. Correct the standard relay screws around with voltages (drops as low as 10v at times) with the standard pump. 99.9% of aftermarket pumps including the Bosch and Walbro ones dont like this and you will kill the pump fairly quickly. I ran a completely new 12v feed to my Bosch 044 with a thicker gauge wire as I have also heard depending on condition, the amount of current aftermarket pumps can suck can well and truely overload what the stock wiring is capable of and get extremely hot/catch fire. Havent seen it first hand and it may simply be an old wives tale, but for the extra $50 it cost for my mechanic to do it, its cheap insurance.
  14. I have been running with a stuffed o2 sensor (reads 0.01v all the time) for over a year now, havent really noticed any bad side affects. Just to hijack the thread a bit, is there any alternative for genuine Nissan sensors? Someone said the EF Falcon one is identical and half the price.
  15. More than likely a write off, have seen skylines with less damage written off because most insurance companies couldnt be bothered dealing with Nissan Australia/Japan to get the parts. Where did you get the pricing for the panels etc? If its an insurance repair they will 99% of the time only use genuine brand new Nissan parts, which are hellishly expensive.
  16. Do you owe money on the car, or need the money for a deposit? If you owe money on the car, work it into the home loan. Over 30 years it'll probably cost you $2 a week extra, and when you sell it you can pay it straight off. If you need a deposit, lots of places are now offering no deposit home loans, you just need to also take out mortgage insurance
  17. Spotted Stirlo in his yellow ricer rocket this morning driving it like a girl. Finally after 10 minutes of being side by side with him, he decided to man up and give it a squirt... sounds good
  18. Spotted a sad looking (read: crashed) R33 GTST near Rose Cottage this morning... Ouch.
  19. Ill put in an appearance tomorrow night.
  20. Brand new theyre about $12,000 from Greenline. Dont expect anyone to pay this though, as for not much more you can get a OS Giken Sequential rated to double the power. From what I have heard they are a Hollinger built gearbox (Hollinger being in Melbourne) and are quite strong. They do require regular servicing, and if it needs a rebuild it needs to be sent back to HKS Japan, as Hollinger themselves wont touch them and HKS dont sell the parts for them. Alot of people in the UK use them, and they only seem to last about 6000 - 10000km's before needing a rebuild. Guess it comes down to how its driven though.
  21. As Duncan said, its basically an engine out job to change the pump on the GTR. Changing the pump doesnt fix the problem though, at the end of the day youre still going to have a short nose drive on the crank. The only real way to fix it is to pull the crank from the engine, grind the nose of the crank, press a new collar on and grub screw it in for good measure. Pro Engines do this for a really good price, and use a JUN copy crank collar. Is basically identical to the JUN one, but a few hundred $$ cheaper. www.proengines.com.au
  22. Its not. Fixing the oil pump problem requires removal of the engine from the car, and removal of the crankshaft from the engine to press a collar on to the end of the crankshaft (which drives the oil pump). Engine R&R is ~$2000-$2500 depending who you use, and the crank collar work would come to about $1000 or a little bit more. Other option is to chuck an R33/R34 GTR engine into the car which have this problem fixed. If the oil pump fails while you are driving, you can expect to be up for a full rebuild. Unfortunately theres no way of telling how bad the problem is until you remove the engine from the car and take the oil pump off. It comes down to luck basically.
  23. Haha a newer F/A-18C+ maybe, our poverty pack F/A-18A's and B's are probably going to fall apart soon due to the air frame being so old, let alone be able to actually shoot down an air to air target (these air to air systems are almost identical to how they were in the late 70's, only air to ground has been upgraded comprehensively). Defence Force is flogging 74 dead horses with our "fighters", they are the most primitive fighter on the market currently (except for the few countries still running with Mirages and MiG-21's).
  24. I remember when Mr Bush was in Canberra we had 4 or 5 F/A-18's a few km's apart each just flying a circle around Canberra. Pretty standard fair these days for high profile events, just in case a Laden supporting person manages to get their hands on a set of Boeing keys again.
  25. Am really keen on doing the NSW section if I can get my new toy in time. Dont really care what position I come in, the thought of being able to legally tool around in my car and enjoy some drunken entertainment afterwards is really appealing to me.
