i don't think so no.

if it is alloy that you are cleaning, try getting some alloy cleaner. it's a chemical that you mix with water and it cleans alloy really well. don't think it does much on steel though. i use it on my boat and it's good stuff. doesn't get much of the grease off, but it gets the stains off. it kind of bleaches the alloy, LOL. if you want to get some stronger degreaser, look in the phone book under "chemicals - industrial". there should be someone who has some super strength degreaser. but you'll probably have to buy it in either 5 or 10L, and it will probably cost a fair bit, but it will be strong stuff. the sort of stuff that when it says to dillute it, you dillute it or it will eat your skin.

Silvia S13 Question About Launching (0-100 Test Automatic)
mad082 replied to La Bomba's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
it does it because it is an auto. as has been said, an ordinary automatic gearbox doesn't have a clutch, it has a stall/torque converter. automatic gearboxes get their drive in quite a different manner to manual gearboxes. they have a clutch plate that gets jammed against the flywheel so that whenever the clutch is engaged the input shaft to the gearbox moves as fast as the motor, but when the clutch is disengaged the engine spins and the gearbox doesn't. automatic gearboxes on the other hand are somewhat more complicated. the first thing to know is that they are much less mechanically driven than a manual gearbox and much more hydraulically driven. the easiest way to explain the stall converter side of things is by comparing it to stirring a cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate or whatever takes your fancy. you will have noticed that when you stir and then stop the liquid keeps moving and the faster you stir the faster the liquid goes, and if you are only using a plastic spoon the force may be enough to even move the spoon a little bit once you let go of it. well an automatic gearbox works in a similar way. the stall/torque converter is like the cup and the spoon, except there is a second spoon in the cup which simply spins around. that is the bit that drives the gearbox. at the same time though, the spoon representing the gearbox also plays a part by limiting how fast you can spin the liquid if the spoon is held still. if you were to alter the size of the spoons you would alter how fast you have to stir before the gearbox spoon started to spin. for example if you to turn the spoon upside down so that the handle is in the liquid, you would have to stir much faster to have the same effect because of the much smaller surface area. in the case of the stall converter this would result in the engine reving much higher before you started to move. this can be beneficial for getting off the line as you can get the car into a difference part of the powerband, but it can make it a pain to drive on the road. if you had a 3500rpm stall, then without actually stalling up the car (foot on the brake), everytime you take off normally you will have to put your foot down further and have the revs build up higher. this can also mean that going up hills at lower speeds you may find the car changing down to a lower gear than it previously did, or simply revving higher. that is a basic run down of how the stall/torque converter of an auto gearbox works. -
can i just ask what you are actually asking here? are you asking for a better degreaser to make it so you don't have to scrub it as much to get it clean, or are you saying that you clean the parts and then a little while down the track they get dirty again? if it's for the scrubbing bit, stuff that is really caked on will usually need a bit of scrubbing. you won't really find too many products that actually eat through seriously caked on crud. for this stuff you are best off giving it a light soak (few mins), then giving it a bit of a scrub then soaking it again and then a final scrub if needed. this way when you scrub it then soak it for the second time you are allowing the degreaser to penetrate more.

Massive Newb Question! Im Sorry!

the light comes on meaning there is an error of some sort. if it is working properly then the light won't come on. but it doesn't really make that much difference when you are driving. -
i haven't, and wasn't planning on, but now i think i might and vote for all the stupidest, ugliest looking ideas

it says in the first post...... AS/NZS1698 or SA2000

Engine Swap Na With Turbo Or Just Install A Turbo Kit For Na
mad082 replied to JnJ's topic in General Automotive Discussion
also it's a complete waste of money. much cheaper just to buy a natro one to start with -
you can get a boost controller for the pfc. partly depends on what the wastegate is set at on the turbo and whether it's adjustable or not. if it's adjustable then just use that. personally i'd just use a turbotech manual boost controller. it's cheap and works well. i'm not a big fan of electronic boost controllers. way too expensive for such little gain.

oh well la di da. but that says kebab spec even more to me, lol. but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter who's doing the work. the public are choosing what it looks like so it will end up being kebab spec. oddly enough i think that if the skyline or supra are chosen then they will turn out even more kebab spec than the commodore or falcon.
-
yeah i agree. you are creating the ultimate rice machine, not the ultimate modified car. the only performance mods seem to be exhaust and brakes. more is going to be spent on graphics than actual performance mods. on this basis, i refuse to vote. no offense, but the last thing we need is another riced up natro skyline on the street. also calling the supra "the king of the rice burners" won't win you many fans.

What Has Your Na Run At The Strip?
mad082 replied to Super Drager's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
1999 TH executive (so same looking as the earlier TE and TF, and mechanically the same as the TF and TJ - TJ got some rounder edges, but other than the panels and interior they are the same) -
Petition Against Speed Camera's
mad082 replied to yellow300zx's topic in General Automotive Discussion
yes talking about the cooroy (end of 110kmh section) to gympie stretch of road. the 90kmh bit goes on a bit past gympie (you may know that though). the actual road from here to cooroy isn't that bad, but the idiots that drive on it are, and yet a lot of the blame gets put on the road. a lot of the accidents have been caused by servere driver error or not driving to the conditions. and i understand the revenue raising bit is what annoys everyone, but the fact is that there seems to be a small perception difference between having a high police presence on the road and setting up an automated machine to do a similar thing. part of me thinks that all speed cameras should be painted neon pink so that people know that they are there and slow down. but the problem is that then they will only slow down for that short section of road then speed back up again. this is where the covert speed cameras come into play. they catch the people who are generally habitual speeders. unfortunately most of these just keep on speeding even after recieving the fine, and no amount of speed cameras or police presence on the road will slow them down until they have lost their licence, and then once they get it back it will start over. the general argument against speed cameras is the same as the argument that always pops up after traffic fines are increased. "it's just revenue raising". but to be honest it isn't really. it's not like they are forcing som involuntary tax unpon us, or are raising the price of something. it's not like we have no choice in the matter. we have all the choice in the world on this. anyone complaining needs to look at it a different way. you are complaining about the punishment for someone breaking the law. if they made the minimum jail sentence for murder longer than what it currently is would you complain? no because it isn't going to affect you (hopefully). all that is happening here is that the police, main roads and the government are trying to crack down on people breaking the law. ultimately whether it stops crashes doesn't really come into it. they just use it as an excuse. but the real thing here is, people are breaking the law and being punished for it. a lot of people just don't really see speeding as breaking the law and therefore don't think that they should be punished. -
i was in on page 2, but this thread only started pretty much a year ago today, so not as bad as 2008.

i think you should take a picture of both the engine bay and the filter you are trying to fit. there are thousands of skylines out there with pod filters on them, so if you aren't able to fit one there there is someting weird going on. either the pod filter you are trying to fit is stupidly big, or you are just plain doing it wrong. the pod should take up about the same space as the airbox, or even a bit less.

maybe it had previously been fitted with a disco ball........

you don't have LED's in there at all? if you did and they were find for a while, it could be that 1 of the resistors has died. -
What Has Your Na Run At The Strip?
mad082 replied to Super Drager's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
v6 magna, 3.5L manual (fwd, not awd). 14.87 @ 150.6kmh, 2.187 60ft. only mod was cat back exhaust. could've gone faster with better tyres or a lsd. -
this is incorrect. the ignitor is built into the coils, not the ecu. this is why the coil part numbers are different from s1 to s2, yet the part number for an ecu remains the same between s1 and s2.

the more important thing to check is, is the slack causing the pedal to hit the floor before you have reached 100% throttle. if not then i wouldn't be too worried about it, lol
-
wow, i don't see you lasting too much longer on here with that attitude. another plug to use is the BCPR6ES but as he said, next time try searching. this gets covered nearly every week

Petition Against Speed Camera's
mad082 replied to yellow300zx's topic in General Automotive Discussion
i'm not brainwashed at all. i think you may be by thinking that a petition on the internet will have the slightest bit of an effect on the government and make them get rid of speed cameras. you could print it out, hand it to the PM, and i bet that in 5 mins it would've gone through the shredder already, and to spite you they'd probably find out where you live and put a speed camera out the front of your house. and did you ever think that the road toll may rise regardless simply because there are more and more people on the roads every year? so it is an enivtable fact that the number of crashes will increase due to their being more people on the roads as people get more frustrated. as for the road toll vs number of speed cameras, it has been raised a few times in this thread and is one of the most stupid comparisons i have ever seen. it's as if people are almost trying to lay blame on speed cameras. a speed camera located in sydney can't be blamed for, or even remotely associated to, a crash that happens in any other part of the town/state/country. also they are only there to control speed, so if the crash was caused by a drunk driver or someone tailgating, etc, you can't link it in anyway to the speed camera. the sole aim of speed cameras is to catch the people breaking the law, and make people slow down because when an accident happens at a lower speed the impact force is less. as for the revenue from speed cameras increasing, there is no one to blame other than the idiots who are speeding. you asked how i can argue with the facts, well how can you argue with that fact? it is extremely simple. don't speed = no fines. if you are dumb enough to not be able to figure that out, then i'm sorry, you are too stupid to help. as for the speed limits decreasing, i think that you will actually find that the council or government that is in charge of that road (smaller local roads = local council remember), has asked for the speed limit to be reviewed due to complaints about the road (or the number of accidents). a stretch of the highway (about 50km long) where i live has had the speed limit reduced from 100kmh to 90kmh because of the number of accidents on it. it was lowered because of public demand for something to be done to reduce the road toll, and since there is a bypass under construction which will remove 90% of traffic from that stretch of road, it was the easiest, quickest, cheapest solution. since lowering the speed limit the number of fatal accidents has dropped dramatically (by probably 70%), because 20kmh has been taken off the impact force. finally, the actual road toll is a bit of a misleading number anyway. the reason being that from 1 year to the next there may a higher road toll, but a reduction in the number of accidents. all it takes is for 2 cars with 5 occupants to collide and the road toll number is going to be much higher than if there had been 3 accidents that were either single car accidents or 2 car accidents with only 1 person in each car. -
while the rb26 is a decent motor, it is getting a bit long in the tooth now. it is old technology and there is much nicer engines out there that will make more power reliably with less work. and they will make more power down low. a 6L LS motor with a turbo hanging off each side would go great. would fry the tyres rather easily as well with the amount of torque it would be putting out. or keeping it in the nissan family, even just a VQ37 from a 370Z with twin turbos, or a vq38 out of a r35 would go well in there. both engines would be lighter than the rb26, probably sit lower and further back in the engine bay, and make good power with good reliability.

my mate had a dyno comp at his workshop a few weeks back with the mr2 club. there was one of the older model mr2's there (the ones that are pointy, not the later model rounded shape - i don't care enough about them to know model numbers) and it only made about 80hp. the missus SSS pulsar on the same dyno made 110hp, so i could see how a NA skyline could easily beat it up hill.

i really don't know where the actual switch mecanism is in the gearbox. it may possibly be hidden just behind a cover on the side of the gearbox, or it may be actually inside the gearbox, which would mean box out and opened up to fix.
