  1. does it go away after a while? ive got the same thing on a cold start. mines a blown exhaust manifold gasket which i should fix soon... if its that then nothing to worry too much about. gasket costs $80-$90 and a good afternoon pulling everything off other things it could be are lifters which can be helped by using certin types of oil but inevitably will require the head to be rebuilt. or it could be a valve as mentioned. go to a mechanic and let someone listen to it in person. its hard to diagnose these thigns over the interent
  2. the main reason for rebuilding tho is because ive got a good manifold/wastegate setup already. its just the exhaust which is too big, everything else is great!
  3. the advantage i have with owning a T04E is there are many combinations of the T04 (see ray hall turbochargers) so i can mix and match without screwing it up completely
  4. the car came like this. the turbo rubs on air con lines but theyve been covered in heat shield protectant stuff. i see 1psi at 3000rpm but it spools so ****ing slowly that its not full boost til 4500-5000rpm. bottom line is its too laggy and im sick of it. plus im making decent numbers on a dyno but converting that into shit street power because of the nature of the power band. my power curve on the dyno is vertical is 0.63 the most popular exh housing to bring it down to? the thing im most ocncerned with is not having to change inlet/outlet piping, dump pipe, oil/water lines and all that other shit which makes changing a turbo very epxensive. im hoping to get away with the whole operation for under $1000 (trading in my existing exh setup)
  5. youve got my support as well i remember seeing the blue rx7 series 6 which ran a 9.xx at motorplex and that was amazing, but not a street car. this would be even better!
  6. sidewaymambo says full boost by 4300 with a 0.63 exhaust. this is still a little laggy...
  7. mack: what about that guy in the other thread who said 0.63 will spool at 4300rpm (full boost) thats a little late... what exh size is yours??
  8. but they charge more than a student can afford. thats why im gunah take it off myself and take it into united. say it came off an RB20 and see what he does. itd just like a starting point first though, i dont want to walk in there oblivious of roughly what im looking for
  9. so even the .63 doesnt see full boost til 4300!! i was hoping for earlier. having said that my car hits hard at about 5500 in 2nd gear, not good! its cool for overtaking but otherwise just a pain in the ass can i go smaller than a .63 or will i start to sacrifice power and practicality
  10. ive had a big bastard on my car for too long. its a TA34 (T04E) Garrett with 1.06 exhaust housing which sees boost come at around 4500-5000rpm which makes good top end but very little streetable power i want to rebuild the turbo using the same compressor setup but smaller exhaust size which will bring boost down to around 3000rpm. im thinking a .63-.68 housing. but also want to make decent power. currently the car makes 270rwhp @ 14psi (RB20) and i want to have at least 250 by the time the operation is complete. other factors are dont really want to have to contract a welder or change oil/water lines/intake pipes etc. the turbo currently sits on an HKS manifold with an external w/gate what do you reckon i should do? just change the exhaust housing, is this a good/bad idea? or is there an easier way around? thanks adam
  11. mack; this doesnt help my situation at all does it...

    Look out

or buy a car cover and cover it up. take EVERYTHING of value out of the car (if its still there) and hope that no-one finds out youve got a car landed without an import approval form cos otherwise they ship your car straight back to japan, at your expense

  14. what sort of condition is the gearbox in? bearings, synchros etc also you have the centre console? if so i would like to buy it thanks adam
  15. i call shotgun on the centre console. PM me if still avaliable cheers
  16. tip: do not buy a polished gearknob and then leave it out in the sun. i can hardly touch mine after more han 2hrs in the sun
  17. 35% isnt worth getting i think. its not dark enough for what you want ie stopping people from seeing in, looking nice. i also vote that mirror tint should be left to hondas and other badly modified shitboxes
  18. ayy happy birthday. pension day as well today (thursday) = birthday present from the government
  19. west racing are very good. tim is my mates girlfriends dad! (insignificant fact) formaz setup and tune power fcs as well. but its all personal opinion. there are plenty of available tuners good luck!
  20. please PM me with email or other contact detials and we will deal with this off-thread. will take the best offer over $16500
  21. just cos im on the other side of the world!! you know where my car is... if you can show me a 13sec timeslip by the time i get home ill give you $50 and 2 crayfish
  22. oil out the BOV is bad! haha that was the sign of my last blown engine. my current engine does it a little, but its probably just emptying the intake tract of all left over oil! you shouldnt need a catch can if running under 10-12psi
  23. ive got a t04e with a 1.06 exhaust housing, which means full boost is at 4500rpm. a little laggy for street use... its making good power (271.6hp on an RB20) but its all top-end my current setup also uses an HKS external wastegate and exhaust manifold. my questions are A) how hard would it be to swap exhaust housings? B) approx cost? (i would trade in my 1.06) C) would i need to change oil/water lines? dump pipe? D) which housing would u recommend, 0.60? 0.80? 0.86?
  24. wont that be a bit of a mismatch for the T04E compressor? thats the only real thing stopping me from making the change, the hassle of refitting the turbo. cos id need to same exhaust flange, and the lines and exhaust pipes to fit! the turbo ive got now was obviously bought as a 'kit' and all fits together nicely, just doesnt spool to 4500rpm leaving little to no streetable power
  25. what about changing the dump pipe. oil and water lines etc will that be a huge hassle with changing the exhaust housing? id probably go for a 0.80
